@@naturalnikkismile1709 You're talking identity politics here. They talk about it for about 5 minutes in the interview, you should listen again. To sum it up, KDH is not running as an African American or Asian American, she's running on what makes us Americans - the American identity, not just a single component of it. That means, foremost above all, what is written on the face of the SCOTUS: "Equal Justice Under Law". We've been struggling for 230 years to achieve that, because it is the whole idea of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and working toward "the more perfect union". She says that Justices Earl Warren and Thurgood Marshall were the men who inspired her to go into law, and RFK was the one who inspired her to become a prosecutor (I get that from her book, not the interview), "so that when the activists came marching and banging at the door, I would be on the other side to let them in." I'm giving all the candidates or at least the top tier ones a shot cause really that's what we all should do. I don't dislike Harris but I can't see her pulling moderate Republicans. Maybe it's cause I live in a rural Texas community and daily see and hear what is being said on local news and by the people around me. Right or wrong we are going to need someone that is inspirational and can bridge some of this huge divide we have. I don't see her doing that. Also, the bias against literally anything from California is staggering, Fox has really planted those seeds of hate well. The Dems underestimated just how much hate there was for Hillary, had nothing to do with policies either she was simply hated. I don't want to see that happen again.
@maryannbrown57625 жыл бұрын
Clash Fan Hi there. I understand your concerns because I lived in Texas for 15 yrs in the 70s and 80s (Denison, El Paso, Dallas and Austin.) Also, I have many relatives in Texas because my mom grew up there-also my dad’s parents. I actually think that Texas was less conservative back then. It wasn’t until George W. Bush beat Gov. Ann Richards in her race for a second term (early 90s, I think,) that Texas started turning red. That was when Fox News was starting up, also, I believe. I’ve tried to remain open to more than one Dem. candidate, because there are many good ones!! I just love Kamala Harris. She is my Senator and though she might not come across as inspiring in this interview (as in appealing to moderate Republicans from small towns and rural areas in Texas,) her speeches are amazing. Also, she will dominate on the debate stage. I also like Beto and Mayor Pete. Ultimately, I will campaign hard for and vote for whomever becomes the nominee. If you haven’t checked out Pete Buttigieg (Mayor Pete,) I recommend doing so here on You Tube. He’s currently #3 in the polls (behind Biden and Sanders!) He’s the 37 year old 2-term mayor of South Bend, Indiana, a town that was dying when he became mayor in 2012. His ideas and leadership have totally turned that small city around. They were a manufacturing hub and now have a healthy tech sector and their population is growing. Mayor Pete grew up in the town, the son of two Notre Dame professors. He’s openly gay and has been married for a year to Chasten, who is a public school art teacher. Sorry for such a long response to your comment, I just wanted to share my thinking with you regarding the candidates. I, too, hated what the right wing, Fox News and fringe news outlets did to Hillary Clinton in 2016 and I’m determined that that not happen again in 2020. We shouldn’t be afraid to have a woman at the top of our ticket, though. We know a lot more now. 🌸
@clashfan28755 жыл бұрын
@@maryannbrown5762 I grew up here and that includes the 70's and 80's and yes it was not always this conservative. I loved Ann Richards and she was voted out after the Clinton scandal broke. That is when this State flipped to the crazy. Bush gutted the educational system and started the breakdown of planned parenthood. Policies that only grew worse under Rick Perry and now Greg Abbott. Thanks for your recommendations I like Mayor Pete a lot and I also like Elizabeth Warren. One thing I think is crucial for everyone this time and that is to go to a direct source. Don't trust any secondary information. If you don't see the candidate say it directly, and I don't mean in a 30 second sound byte taken out of context, then don't trust it.
@edwinswezey50285 жыл бұрын
@Clash Fan & @MaryAnn Brown: You both seem to like Buttigieg, and so do I; but I don't want him to be the nominee or POTUS because he does not even have the statewide stature of Sarah Palin, which is a pretty low bar. Besides, the policies and solutions are one thing but we can't forget that the POTUS executes the laws but Congress makes them. So in order for a given solution to be implemented, the POTUS has to wheel and deal with Congress, just like MLK and JFK were inspirational figures but it took wheeler-dealer LBJ (from Texas, remember) to get the Civil Rights Act passed, then Medicare and Medicaid, all three with a massive bipartisan majority. That's where Harris comes in. I've looked at all the Dem candidates with as much objectivity as I can muster, and find no one but Harris and Biden who will have enough clout in Congress to get anything done. Given that choice, I'm going with Harris because I'm fed up with old white guys in power, and there are enough smart women to pick from to have a two-woman ticket. Harris enjoys universal respect in the Senate and, from what I can tell, in the House too.
@clashfan28755 жыл бұрын
@@edwinswezey5028 I haven't ruled anyone out yet as it's early and we have to see how it unfolds. It is completely unfair to compare Buttigieg to Palin on any front. Palin was not a smart individual and Buttigieg is brilliant. Putting Palin on a national stage exposed her whereas putting Mayor Pete on the same stage has illuminated him, so far anyway. As for LBJ he used blunt force intimidation for the most part to get his way, I'm not sure I would call that being a wheeler-dealer. Sure he got the job done but not without a cost. As for either MLK , JFK or RFK we will never know what they could have achieved through the power of inspiration if they had not been assassinated. Frightening thought in this volatile world I hope all the hopefuls have good security.
@edwinswezey50285 жыл бұрын
@@clashfan2875 LBJ was blunt, yes, and nowhere near as smart as MLK, RFK or JFK; but intimidation? I don't really know what that means. Anyway, he got the three major programs I mentioned passed into law with massive bipartisan support. Personally, I liked MLK, JFK and was crazy about RFK, all of whom were brilliant men, but they didn't get anything done. LBJ did. For Buttigieg, same thing. I said I liked him, yes, he's smart; but he's little league, as mayor. He needs at least to work his way to a governorship: That's where we get out POTUSes, generally from governors or senators, with some notable exceptions like FDR, Eisenhower and tRump who came out of nowhere. Anyway, the Dem Party will decide as they always do, and the whole selection process is about a year away. I'm sure they want either Harris or Biden.

Most low income moms already get CCMS subsidy thru Federal Gov to State and are paying very little if any. Yes they could maybe raise the income illegibility as I probably didn't make but 40k a year and wasn't eligible for any benefits at all yet someone making 25k with 2 kids maybe got food stamps, Medicaid for kids, section 8 and CCMS. Those right in the middle get overlooked and it doesn't give those in the lower income bracket incentive to make more or they loose their benefits. There has to be a middle ground. What a horrible candidate. There are a thousand reasons she should never be elected to any office. Just look at her record.

Great, great interview!! Senator Kamala Harris is my favorite candidate for President. I like Beto and I like Mayor Pete, but Kamala has it all for me. She knows what she believes. She is whip smart and her policies are based on what she has observed and learned from her considerable experience, including what she is currently learning from being on the campaign trail running to be the Democratic nominee for President. And, yes, she is going to crush her opponents on the debate stage. Go Kamala!!! President Harris, 2020❣️

I really like her but disagree that "identity politics" is a new version of pulling calling "race card". Many people simply don't 'intersect' in an intersectionalist society. Is that anywhere near the problem that systematic racism is for people of color? No. Is it anywhere near the problem that the gender pay gap represents? No. But if you've spent your life a proud liberal, a proud feminist, and indeed a proud warrior for social justice, then being told your not the correct type of person by people calling for racial/gender fairness, can seem a little hypocritical. Again, that may not be compelling to most actually disenfranchised people, but I think it's a mistake to dismiss those concerns as basic racism. That said, I think Kamala is great and would love to see her on the ticket. I'm a CA voter and have voted for her every time she's been up. Great interview all around.

absolutless I can see why many woman like her but based on what I see on social media she is not connecting. I admit even me as an African American female love seeing a strong female but I don’t believe she will be able to bring a divide country together and get the conservative vote. Also it doesn’t feel sincere if I’m being honest. We can’t all get so caught up on one and eliminate other candidates so soon or Trump will win.
