We find that, for the same crime reduction, a subsidy to high school completion has large efficiency and welfare gains which are absent in the case of increases in prison sentences." "there should be serious, severe, and swift consequences for crime." Funny, she didn't feel that way when I was inconveniently assaulted in her city while she was DA, but too busy running for state office to do her job. She looked at the gory photos of what a psycho home invader broke into my house and did to me in my bed in front of a witness, and decided it wasn't a crime, let him go scot free. When my lawyer asked her office to reconsider, her assistant DA told him she'd never open a case like mine while she was running for office. The guy continued to threaten me for another four years. She got her state office, and I got to be too afraid to walk from my bedroom to my kitchen inside my SF home without carrying pepper spray for years.

I’m not sure why Harris is being criticized for this. Many victims of assault never see justice, and I believe her concern is for them. While education is important, it can be complex and isn’t always the solution for a community. Bringing up education in discussions about criminal justice reform doesn’t always make sense, which is a common occurrence in California and other progressive states-this is what she’s addressing. I don’t think she disagrees that society should prioritize education; it’s just that when we discuss violent crime and criminal justice, we shouldn't be idealistic.

How is this mocking? She said “WE progressives” aka saying she’s including herself in this. And, she has a point. Nuance matters. Things that sound good on face value may not be good once you dig into the details, which is what she’s attempting to do here before the video ends in the middle of her trying to make this point. Let her finish her point and then see what you have to say!! I bet what she was about to say was: serious crimes need to be punished equally regardless of race, class, gender etc but we need to make sure no one is profiting off of these people being incarcerated. Building more schools doesn’t totally fix the problem we have with having too many prisons. What fixes the problem is ending corporate rule aka the companies that profit off of people being incarcerate and do all kinds of shady stuff to try to create circumstances where people end up in jail. Education is only a small piece of this. And, she even says she AGREES with the education piece, but that it’s not enough!!! Please stop demonizing people who are on your team, especially by cutting them off before they can finish making a point. She is trying to save the world from Trump 🙏🏼
