I got into Babymetal thru the Kami Band members and have been to their club gigs, including of Mikio Fujioka and of Takayoshi Ohmura, any number of times. Ran into all sorts of people at Mikio's gigs, including Akane and Kanami of Band-Maid. Mikio was a walking encyclopedia of music theory and history, could play any style, very good on acoustic too-what a loss. The Gathering of Metal Warriors show was January 9, 2016 at Club 1ne2wo.Yuya Maeta was the drummer, with Hideki Aoyama guesting on four numbers, Mikio on seven tunes. 22 tune set, shaved to 21 for the d v d, with a cover of "Phantom of the Opera" cut.

One point to add. "The Gathering of Metal Warriors" wasn't the title of the song but of the show on Jan. 9, 2016. When Ohmura put out the setlist of the show, the song was identified simply as "Solo Regular". On the setlists of the Yokohama Arena show of Dec. 12, 2015 that other commenters have mentioned here, the song is given variously as "Kami Band New Song" or "Kami Band Solo". When Ohmura's dual disc album "Cerberus" was issued in Jan. 2017, the song's name had become "Hill of Wisteria". Which is to say, the song was named "Hill of Wisteria" before Mikio Fujioka died, not after as some claim.

Mikkio caresses the strings and Takayoshi shreds with a firm hand, both are brilliant. Just think , without the Kami band , Babymetal may have just been another band who faded away when the were still young teens, and , without Babymetal, the Kami band would probably never have been heard of outside Japan. Some folk aren't Kobametal fans, but without him, we would have heard of neither. His genius and foresight has given us this unique melding of talents. 🦊🦊💥🦊🦊

Mikio had such a cool style, you can always hear that it is him in any track and I think that is what differentiates the very good musicians from the greats, we tend to remember the pioneers rather than those that follow a style even if the latter may improve on it. Would they play it as a tribute at a Babymetal show? If the fans asked I think they would, we asked for a live FDTD and they did it for us, however the fifth anniversary has just passed so I think it more likely they would do it for a significant one. I would really love to see them play Djentleman as an instrumental, that would be awesome, maybe do a death metal arrangement of it

excellent content GMoon-Metal, yeah Mikio is awesome, he was Ohmura's instructor at the University, and he made real good use of the whammy bar, I have heard him play entire songs with that whammy constantly in play, just genius.

This is a great performance, you get to see Mikio and the rest if Kamiband rocking out.... I wish someone can send you the tribute concert after Mikio's passing, where Hideki, Takayoshi, and BOH played this. very emotional. So you gonna try Kariband next? the jazz band of BOH and other artists?😭🤘🦊🤘

To me the best way to describe Mikio's tone is that it is creamy. Creamy as in the foam on a well poured stout. Takayoshi has just pure 80's tone. Both are perfect for their different feeling and musicality.

Guitarist SYU from Galneryus said this about Mikio's guitar: "...Often it happened that when I had a local seminar, the next day Fujioka san had a seminar. I could also put my hands on his ESP model, and it was really difficult to play with his settings. It was a setup that made me think 'can you really play with the strings set that high!?' but it was probably a well informed, deliberate setting to make the guitar sing when you play it. I take my hat off to him for playing in the same metal scene as me with such unbelievably absurd settings..."

This song is legendary amongst fans of BABYMETAL and the Kamis. After Mikio passed, Ohmura renamed it in his honour ('Hill of Wisteria' after the meaning of Mikio's other name, Fujioka) and recorded it for his album 'Angels in the Dark'. The album track features three BABYMETAL guitarists: the first two solos are played by ISAO and Leda Cygnus and then Ohmura himself reproduces the soolo that Mikio used to play. There is also footage of Ohmura, Boh and Hideki playing this soon after Mikio's death. It is hard to watch: Ohmura is in tears and the others are visibly emotional. There is yet another performance where Ohmura is able to cope better. In that one, two of Mikio's guitars are placed in a position of honour, centre-stage. Ohmura then opens a can, announcing "Beer!" as he sets it down by the guitars. Mikio was a big fan of beer. The band then plays this song. EDIT: I just saw that you also reacted to one of the performances I mentioned above. I'm glad to see that.

Thanks! I really wanted to react to that tribute, but also really wanted to see Mikio play, so I did both!

R.I.P. kogami 🙌❤️ They performed this during 2015 live tour, is one of those rare intro they don't play anymore, of course Mikio's memories all over again would be the reason. Thanks for sharing this GMG.🦊🤘❤️

Mikio and Hideki were both guest at the show. Hideki is actually playing Yuya's kit (Yuya uses Sonor drums and Hideki uses Yamaha) As Yuya was the main drummer of the show. They switched out so Hideki could play a couple of songs. Mikio's guitars are set up for harmonics and uses of the whammy as Takayoshi is more for shredding.

No wonder this sounded like a Babymetal intro, since this has been actually played in concerts! But it's was never recorded as a pro shot! It was played as an intro before Akatsuki 6 times during the 2015 tour, and one of them was during Yokohama day 1! What we watched on stream was Yokohama day 2, where instead of it we got the classic Mischief of the Metal Gods before Rondo :)

I GUESS the difference between the guitar tones is just that Mikio had either both or only the neck pickup active (cant see in the video) and Takayoshi has (clearly visible) thr bridge pick active, which produces a higher, less warm and full tone. Maybe they even have different amp settings. Greets from Germany's worst guitar player... have fun!

Great reaction as always, thanks! They are great musicians and to be honest, I got interested in BABYMETAL because of them. No wonder they were the first I saw on a kami intro to "Catch me if you can" (Budokan Black Night version) right before the girls came in and my brain explode and never recovered. 😁 I mean, I am a metalhead and the solos catch my attention naturally. Then, it comes the unconditional love and bias of becoming a die-hard fan (which never ever happened to me before). As it's mentioned, it's cool they performed this song up to six times during BABYMETAL concerts in 2015. Okay, let's face reality, the next video (Mikio's tribute) is going to be tough... 🤘🦊

I love this track so much. This footage is from the DVD that comes with the Cerberus album by Takayoshi Ohmura. The whole live show is actually called The Gathering of Metal Warriors not just this song, the majority of the show has Yuya Maeta on drums.
