The biggest ever street performance of Steve Earle's "Galway Girl" took place on June 11th, 2016 in Galway, Ireland.
A record breaking number of over 15 000 people came along to take part in the performance.
Sharon Shannon, Mundy, We Banjo 3, Amazing Apples, Roisin Seoighe, Lackagh Comhaltas, Galway Rose Rosie Burke and thousands of other artists and supporters were among them.

I have only been once in 2002 - I absolutely felt at home. For a California boy it was odd to feel so at home - weather and food took some adjustment but saw Dublin, Cork, Waterford, Limerick and Galway in 6 short days - took the train didn’t have to drive on the wrong side of the road - had a wonderful time. The Euro had just rolled out and you had to make sure you DIDN’T get your change in the old currency as the time to change them out had just expired. Wonderful people, ancient culture. So much to see!

Visited Ireland for two weeks in 2015. Loved the people, the land and the music. I felt I had returned home. Spent some time in Galway City. This makes me want to go back. @lisa gaye It's great that you are learning our history and culture, very flattering that you take an interest, the advice I would give you is, no matter how much you know or don't know, the best way to learn, particularly about our culture and history is just to visit for a few weeks, 99% of people will gladly include you, speak to you, ragale you with stories from personal accounts and 2nd hand family accounts, if you have a genuine interest, Irish people will pick up on that and gladly spend hours talking with you and answering questions, introducing you to others or providing lists of the best places to go or people to speak to that you wouldn't find in a tour guide, we have a long tradition of story telling and love to inform people as it makes us swell with pride, so don't think you need to know everything as a prerequisite as that would take away some of the charm of learning it from the locals but I can 100% Guarantee you that if you are a genuine person wit q genuine interest you will be welcomed with pen arms regardless of anything else like your beliefs, colour, politics, wealth, status etc, we just really LOVE people and most if not all people feel like they are leaving their extended family when they leave at the end of their vacation. You're more than welcome to visit as you are and if you need any help or pointers on anything from Literature, art, food, travel, History, customs etc just let me know and I will gladly answer them online:)

actually brought a tear! I listened to that CD--steve earle while wkg for USW--steelwkrs Union, traveling--year in Chicago. I was traveling, pd by USW to build support for USW strikes/fights, at Wheeling/pgh, Ravenswood, build alliances. everytime i remember that, this is the backgound music. tough fights! Irish music is the best in the world! When I was working as professional musician in Denmark I played as much Irish music as possible (Including galway girl) and it was always the biggest hit. One of my dreams is to go to Ireland and enjoy good whisky and real music on a pub amongst friends. Thank you for this great song!
