Kamon, I thought you were in Hawaii now until I read where it said 2019. The color green for marking the Queen is why I read it because 2021 should be white or light gray if I remember correctly. You and your family do deserve a great vacation!

Hi Kamon. At any point in your career you have clipped your queens? On the ’pros’ side of the ledger, the prevailing view seems to be that it may buy you an extra few days before a colony swarms, and if they do ultimately swarm before you can take action, they will end up near the hive entrance where you’ll have a better chance of recovering the queen and the bees. The ‘cons’ that come to my mind are it’s one more thing to do, and every time you handle a queen, there’s a chance for injury. It seems very uncommon in the US, and perhaps more frequently practiced in other countries, such as the UK. In your view am I missing anything on either side, and on balance, where do you come down on it and why? Thanks much.

Hi Kamon, new subscriber from Charlotte NC. I’ve noticed in some of your videos, you put an excluder between two brood boxes in a double deep. I have yet to see your reason, may have missed it. Can you explain for a fairly new beekeeper? Thanks!
@kamonreynolds
@kamonreynolds 3 жыл бұрын
This is to keep all the brood and the queen in one box making it much better for me to manage them. However, with improper management this could cause problems. I will try to address this in an upcoming video to further detail

@@jerry2593 that's good news as I was reading Larry Connors queen essentials and he spoke of being stung by queens and the pheromone trail left behind. I've watched videos of them being handled and they sure twist their butt around looking for a target!

it is very uncommon but it can happen. I personally have never been stung by a queen and I have literally grabbed a 1000+ This guy does that every month and a half. He says he hasn't been stung either. Once they start laying they really don't have a desire to do much but lay poor full things
