That is a small part of Kampala - downtown Kampala, which is ultra busy, congested and dusty. There's other parts of Kampala that are upscale in nature. Just like any city in the world today, Kampala has the less stellar parts (like what's shown in this video) and the more upscale parts (not shown in this video). But irrespective of which part of Kampala you visit, rest assured that you will find the person-to-person interactions quite satisfying. The people are a jolly lot. Visit one day. You will fall in love with Kampala at first sight, guaranteed.

Wow, busy place, lots of hustle and bustle in the big city of Kampala, Uganda. In highschool I worked at KFC as a cook and my boss was from Uganda. I use to ask him about Uganda as the internet wasn't available for another 7-8 years (and even then it was mostly just email) and he would tell me all about it and how beautiful it was and if I even visited I would never leave. He came to Canada as a refuge in the 1970's as he and his wife were born in Uganda but they were of Indian descent and suffered ethnic persecution by the hands of Idi Amin.

If you read into history, you would understand why Amin did what he did. It was all Britain's fault. The Asians were British citizens and were being treated as second class next to the British, with native Ugandans in last place. When someone gives away your land as a gift to another race, I'm sure you wouldn't feel nice about it. When the British left, they were meant to leave with the Asians but they discarded them bc they weren't white. Now, why would natives owe British citizens shit? It's a sad chapter as it wasn't the Asian's fault but neither was it Amin's or the Ugandan's fault. They were surely not gonna leave another race to rule over them as first class bc of colonialism. That's why South Africa is the way it is.

Hi Ryan- I too have been an Expat from US 'collectively' about 22 years only off and on. I've been "stuck" here in the US since the LockDown unfortunately. I too have lived in many cultures and my wife is from the southern Philippines. While living in Sweden back in the 90's I had some Kenyan friends and have done tours in Israel with groups of South Africans- but never really saw much of Africa. Today I am 68 and retired but what I now know is if I had more time I definitely would have invested into seeing some of Africa! Yeah- some of the lesser developed countries in the world have some Rich aspects about them that Western cultures "lost" sometime ago- Take care!

Kenya doesn't represent the entire continent of Africa. Most people speak English than "Swahilli"

Thanks for giving us a tour… always heard about Kampala when I listen to bbc world service as I think they have a studio there, and wondered what it’s like there. Reminds me a lot of some cities in southeast asia..
