Kanagawa Easter Line Project was planned to improve access to central Kanagawa and central Tokyo by connecting the lines of the major private railway Sotetsu and JR, and Tokyu Railway.
In this video, I will explain how this plan was realized and the thoughts of the railway companies that participated in the plan.
*I got the opinion that background music is annoying, so I didn't add background music to this video.
I would appreciate it if you could comment on that.

Regarding the background music, I think it depends on the content. For example, when explaining complicated facts or plans, I personally find background music a bit distracting. When talking about lighter topics, I think background music fits very well. Keep up the good work please! 😊

Again I would like to mention some trivia here: 1) It is the first time for Sotetsu revenue trains to enter JR line since part of the Sotetsu line was nationalized during late-WW2 era. JR East has once asked Sotetsu if they would like to takeover the nationalized part, but given that the line was non electrified like as post war era, Sotetsu declined as they afraid the old line will pull down their own operating condition 2) Sotetsu was being considered as an inferior,old-fashioned railway company because they have no direct train service to Tokyo area. The immobility along the line was cheaper than those along Tokyu lines for instance. But since the new through train services to Tokyo, more people are now considering to live at Sotetsu area.

I'm glad KZbin suggested this video to me! There have been an increasing number of videos uploaded in the past year that explain various transit policies and projects, but many of them have been focused on North America and Europe. I appreciate your work here adding English-language content from outside of those regions so we can see a spotlight on Japan! Your visual presentation style and general content arrangement in this video was great and I look forward to more!!! ありがとうございました!

このビデオをありがとうございます。英語の発音はOKだけど、文法はすごい上手です。もう、音楽なしのビデオがいいです。ごめん、まだ日本語は下手です。 Thank you for making a very complicated new branch line a little easier to understand. As for music, I'm really glad you only added a bit of music at the end. That's perfect. I would much rather listen to what you're saying than music.

This is the kind of project where Japan leads the world. Integrating regional, commuter and metro systems with through-running enabled by tunnels. It cuts journey times by reducing the need for transfers, it increases frequency because through-running lines aren't as constrained by limited and expensive terminal platforms in the city centre. It also shows the strengths of the Japanese setup, Rail companies need to maximize passengers by maximizing connections and speed, profit motive keeps them lean and local and central government's control of capital investment funds means they can push development in socially beneficial directions. But Takeshi is right there is an explanation problem for travellers since Tokyo has so many operators and is so big you can't put it all on a single map. The local governments should find some way to integrate the visual language of network maps across operators. Hold a design competition!

Be careful what works in Japan may not be as effective elsewhere .... several factors are in Japan .... - identical trains (they have the same dimensions of width height length per body) only the noses and the colors change (more details inside) ... the Sotetsu 12000 series is identical to the E233-7000 of the Jr Saikyo .. . (they have the same Mitsubishi IGBT VVVF inverters in addition) this detail is very important. -corporate policy and similar security system .... -infrastructure provided at the base, from their construction -rationalization of training lengths (trains) -other ... that I don't have in mind Paris with the RER, did something similar ... interconnection between lines that have terminal stations. There is even a section where the trains of the two companies (SNCF and RATP) coexist ... it is the Chatelet / Gare du Nord tunnel ... It was, with these two stations, very complex to build .... -it has two lanes (three over 450m at the northern exit of Chatelet) and serves 4 lanes for Gare du Nord and 5 lanes on Chatelet. There are 10 railroad switch in this tunnel, 2 of which are crossover. - it took the two security systems used by the two operators -The ratp uses 208m long Mi79 / 84s, and the sncf, 248m long Z20500s, but claimed 310m long platforms which means that the northern station platforms are 310m long, and the RER D in Chatelet also docks (located in the center of the station) ... those of RER A and B are 230m. -In addition the sections are very short and the speed limit is 80 km / h In the end we have an overused tunnel, with, on good days, 32 trains / h / direction ... Chatelet being the most frequented underground station in Europe....but it is not as "perfect" as in Japan

I’ve been able to see the tunnel works and station reconstruction at Hiyoshi since 2011! I felt that Sotetsu was trying to bolster its routes (and finances) by doing direct to Tokyo services myself. To explain through service routes, the best example is with the Fukutoshin Line. You can easily film the drivers and conductors changing at Wako-shi, Koganei-Mukaihara, and Shibuya. You can even explain “one man operation” in Fukutoshin subway since a conductor isn’t used and there are monitors to see the train doors in the driver cab. Good channel btw!

I just moved to Musashi-Kosugi and was wondering about the details of the new Sotetsu services. I had been seeing this great looking dark blue train every now and then so on Saturday i took a ride on it. Its a really nice, comfortable train. I think it was running on the Saikyo line, doesn't come very frequently. It's pretty confusing down there tbh with the Yokosuka line, Shonan Shinjuku line and the Saikyo line all coming to the same platform. Thanks for the video, really thorough but not confusing ! Looks like you have a wicked channel here. Cheers !

Once again, it's a great video with fantastic explanation. For future videos, would be great if we can look at different "direct through services" patters of different Toyko subway lines Fo rexample the Hokuso-Keisei-Toei Asakusa-Keikyu system, the Odakyu-Chiyoda- JR Joban line systems, or the Tobu/Seibu-Yurakucho/Fukutoshin line-Tokyu Toyoko-Minatomirai line systems Thanks

Once again, you read my mind. I always wondered about this little railway in yokohama and what all these new routes meant. Excellent video. I would love a video that neatly showcases the history of through running of private trains onto tokyo subway lines, as well as a visual explanation. I think your style and visuals would greatly help untangle and explain this for non-japanese railfans. Also, from a user’s perspective, how do people know which train to get on when they get on the subway? I feel like this could never work in the US. Thanks again Takeshi-san!

Yes an explanation of through trains and how they work (E.g. the trains continue onto other operator's lines but the drivers only drive within their company's area) plus the history would be great. The Fukuoka City Subway-JR Chikuhi Line is one I'm very interested in.

Odakyu is a competitor to the Sotetsu-JR direct Line to Shinjuku from Ebina. It is also interesting to note that JR East trains also operate on the Odakyu Line from the Joban local line via Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line, so it is possible to see JR East trains at Ebina Station on both Sotetsu and Odakyu lines at Ebina.

we can see Saikyo E233 series until hazawa station and maybe further...I dont know if Hazawa Yokohama-Kokudai station is a 2 track station or 4 track station....but from what I saw in video it is aesthetically very different from the typical station, it looks more European.

the background music is good, but i suppose it makes sense to pause it sometimes. my recommendation would be to keep it for most of the time, and occasionally pause it as a means to emphasize certain content or remove its (very mild) distractingness when explaining something very complex, like the routes of certain train services

I saw in a picture that Sotetsu 20000 series has ATC setup for Seibu and Tobu. However Seibu and Tobu are reluctant to operate through services with Sotetsu. There are already 5 operators on the Fukutoshin line corridor (Yokohama Minatomirai counted), so maybe 6 is too many?
@JPRailcom
@JPRailcom 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure, but as far as I know, 20000 series does not have ATC for Fukutoshin line. Tokyu has not mentioned about Sotetsu-Toyoko line direct connection yet. At this point, Tokyu will do Meguro line/Metro Namboku line/Subway Mita line connection only.
@paulcao1529
@paulcao1529 3 жыл бұрын
@@JPRailcom Is the ATC system not connected/universal on Tokyo Metro? I remember seeing a Namboku train running on the Yurakucho Line to the Shin-Kiba maintenance facility, and that a Tokyu train once ran on the Yurakucho Line as well because of emergency schedule adjustment. If the 20000 series have ATC for Namboku, then shouldn’t it be compatible to also run on other metro lines?

I think there is a typo in the title "Sotetsu-tokyu". I got to ride on the brand new trains when I used to live in musashi-kosugi, much more comfortable and sleek than the ones JR uses on the shonan-shinjuku line. Unfortunately it wasn't very frequent maybe 2 or 3 per hour, not sure if it was because the yokosuka line that was busy or if it was the saikyo line but it would have been nice if they were more frequent. Please talk about the F-liner in your cross railroad video ! And thank you for this video!!

This will be great for commuters traveling from Atsugi, Ebina to Osaki, Shinagawa area. Now after Nishiya station the train is almost empty (non peak hours). Once the Shin-Yokohama station gets opened it would generate more revenue. People travelling with luggages would prefer transfer to Odakyu from Ebina than from Machida since JR Machida and Odakyu station is not so close. This is my personal opinion.

I believe that the Shin-Yokohama line, along with the Minatomirai line should be operated by the Yokohama Municipal Subway, as they are clearly heavily used Rapid Transit lines.

I thought the 10 car 20000 series trains were meant to run on the Toyoko line because the Meguro line platforms are too short so service on the Sotetsu-tokyu line would alternate between Meguro bound and Shibuya bound trains. Have these plans been changed?
@JPRailcom
@JPRailcom 3 жыл бұрын
The 20000 series will be shortened to 8-car trains and will be used on the Tokyu Meguro Line. The 20000 series has facilities for getting on the Tokyu, Tokyo Metro Namboku Line, and Toei Subway Mita Line, but it seems that it does not have the facilities for getting on the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line. In addition, Tokyu mentions the Meguro Line, but does not comment on the Toyoko Line.
