Thank you very much Sensei for these series of videos that perfectly introduce me to the world of jojutsu. He goes through the details of each position (although the hakama covers the feet a bit), the arrangement of the hands and the harmony of movement. This also encourages me to learn and hopefully practice jojutsu.

I have a first basic question regarding the choice of jo. What length (relative to your own height) and diameter is appropriate/correct?
@KanayamaTakayuki
@KanayamaTakayuki 9 ай бұрын
The length is 128 cm, the diameter is 2.4 cm, and the material is white oak. This is the standard for canes. If you are a particularly large person (over 190 cm), we also sell a larger size, but if you are smaller than that, I think it would be better to buy a standard size. I myself have acquired many canes, but once I got one that was made to order with the length and diameter slightly smaller, but when I used it in practice, it didn't feel very good. So, I gave it to a small senior woman who is practicing. On the other hand, I don't like the slightly larger one, which is the same length but has a diameter of 3 centimeters, because it doesn't feel like it fits in my hand. Please be careful not to use large or heavy objects to build muscle strength, as this will result in a result that is contrary to what is cultivated through Jojutsu training. Jojutsu training can be done well whether you do it alone or with a partner. In particular, it is perfect for grasping the harmony and flow of the whole body. There is almost no possibility of hurting your body, and you can clearly feel the performance or failure of the movement. Depending on how you use it, it can also be very effective for gymnastics and massage. (I also tell you this in my video)

Thank you very much @@KanayamaTakayuki Sensei for your detailed answer and advice on choosing jo. I am 175 cm tall, so I think the standard size should be suitable for me. Today I found it on the Polish market and ordered it (very close to the dimensions you provided), 128 cm long, 25 cm in diameter and about 450 g in weight, so in the next few days I think I will be able to start practicing based on your videos. I hope that my self-criticism and self-discipline will allow me to make progress in self-perfection of jojutsu.

That size would be fine. Please work hard while feeling the physical sensations, the slippage of your hands, the weakness, the flow in conjunction with your feet! The scenery seems to come to mind. We are responding to your comments on the video released at 9pm on Saturday, March 30th. Although it is a poor content, please take a look if you like.

After practicing Tsunagi no Kata for some time I have decided to follow your art. Although I see it as very complicated. I hope that by dedicating as much time as possible and with due patience, I hope to improve the movements and understand little by little how wonderful jojutsu is. Thanks sensei!!

Thank you very much!!! Very interesting material! I've been watching you for a long time. I practice a school where there is no Jo and the movements are very different from yours. But your lessons still help me set my motor skills. Unfortunately, it is not easy to buy DVDs from Japan in Russia. But I'll figure something out :)))

"jo" means "stick", jojutsu = stick martial art
@KanayamaTakayuki
@KanayamaTakayuki 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I would like the world to know the word "Jojutsu". "Jo" means "staff" in Japanese, and as a martial art of fighting with a staff, it has an official name of "Jojutsu". Although it could be mistaken for the Newaza "Jujutsu" , the martial arts using a staff are called "Jojutsu".

@@KanayamaTakayuki "staff" is popular meaning about all of weapons, actually "stick" is the most correct
