So, the one railroad that used turntable switchbacks that's narrow gage is the White Pass and Yukon. They had a loop at the other side of the turntable so you leave the cars in the loop and turn your engine so it was facing the correct direction of travel so the crew can spot the danger, if any danger is to be had and not have to rely on a blind guard, or a conductor who dissappears around the bend with his caboose

I've only found 1 use for my Shay in my game. That's load it up with logs, send it off to the sawmill, go to one of my other trains and run something else and then telegraph to the sawmill in time to catch the Shay as it's finally passing by. After unloading it, do the same but towards the logging camp. That thing is slow enough that with enough steam and reg control, you can basically ghost it on your lines and be able to run something like 5 trains. You do need to have good track lay out though. Maybe a thought for you and Hyce to try. Get a Shay and a Heisler and have them do slow transporting around as you focus on doing other stuff and then catch them at their destination.

In the UK there were the so called 'merry-go-round' trains which ran hoppers from coal mine to power station. They loaded coal from above at the mine without stopping and then unloaded it from the bottom at the power station, again without stopping.

Bumpers can be placed at any node, even if something is attached on both sides. So for that part when you were unable to place that bumper, you could have laid some level 3 ballast and then put the bumper at that node. Plus, ballast will be under your bumper. I use bumpers to close off lines that are under construction. Second edit: you can also lay track after placing the bumper if you want to be precise with your placement. Just set the circle mode to 0.

Postage used to be loaded and unloaded without the train stopping at all. Postal bags basically would be hung on a hook on the side of the railroad tracks. And then a train would come by with a postal carriage that basically had a big fish net that was sent out to catch the bags as the train went by. A postal worker would then sort the mail inside the car and would then throw the mail out of the moving carriage at whatever station the male needed to go to.

Some information about Auto Train. It’s a once daily service each way between Sanford, FL and Lorton, VA, non-stop. It runs overnight and is half passenger, half freight train, the front half being accommodations for passengers like seating, bedrooms, and dining, and the rear half being Autoracks that carry the passengers’ vehicles. Danny Harmon’s channel Distant Signal has a video that cover’s the operation of assembling the train somewhere, and well, given how awful I95 can be, I’m not surprised it’s one of if not the only Successful long distance route Amtrak has.

Questions for Hyce: What is the worst thing to happen at the Museum? What is the most common failure you dealt with either at the museum or when you worked on BNSF? ALSO I actually have a buddy who was an extra in Unstoppable he played one of the officials at the near end of the movie. I said it before, but why not make the Shay your dedicated hump locomotive. It being so slow wont matter when its literally only moving cars that need put away. A good name for it would be 1-Hump-Chump, Snail, Bin It?, Failed Drug Test, or King of CR&P Hill. The Drug Test name is meant to be a mocking of who had the most pee cups in an episode, therefore they must suffer using a shay.. The last is a nod to your poop stories, maybe have it pull a Waycar that can be the hump yard crew outhouse. Name the caboose CR&P House. I'll add more names till a shay is bought.

So more about the very first steam locos. October 1829 is when the rain hill trials in England took place so rain England made a railroad but instead of horses pulling wagons they make a competition. So the technology is still very new and there are not realy another places with steam trains. So the competition was to make a steam train to run on the new line and you won a 500 pounds and of the line needed new stuff or repairs your company was going to be hired. 50 company's said they would enter but only 5 trains showed up to the event. The five were Stephen's rocket, sans pera (I think that's how you spell it), novelty, and perservenc the fith was cycloid a horse on a moving platform that would turn wheels it was imitatey disqualified for not being steam powered. The trails were to take place over 5 days (might have been more) in wich the locos were tested to their limits and seen how strong they are. Perservenc and novelty broke in the 2nd days and were not repaired in time sans pera would have won if it had dent experience a burst piston wich was repaired to then having leaking pipes and so Stephen's rocket won pitting its name in history. Now something interesting is that Stephen's rocket was the forst train to have many tunes go through the boiler trains usually had 1 big tube that went through and maby wrapped around like sans pera.
