What excites me is that these empires were like countries of those times, hence an empire extending in Mongolia, uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, china, would mean these people from these regions would be countrymen to each other and would see tamils, or marathis as foreigners Wow

My hypothesis about why Indian or Indian Buddhist sources don’t mention Kushanas is: perhaps the khatrapis were the face of local population and Kushanas gave them much latitude. Kushana emperors being of different religion were likely not if interest to Indians - perhaps they were not involved in giving दान directly. Excellent video as always! Thank you.

That's an interesting perspective. It is true that the Kshtraps did enjoyed wide ranging powers and from the evidence it can be speculated that the Kushana rule wasn't direct. Great insight.

Your videos are great as always! Seeing Kanishka’s forays into the Tarim Basin, I’d like to ask if you could do a video on the Indian influences in that area. I remember reading a story about a Mauryan prince who was exiled and led his people into the Tarim Basin where a goddess marked the area he would settle, which became modern Khotan.

I have a hypothesis based on LINGUISTICS AND RELIGION. it is clear that the primary religion followed by KANISK was IRANIAN POLITHEISM. we know that there is a sharp contrast between INDIAN SANATAN POLITHEISM VS IRANIAN politheism. In Ancient Persia; Ahura meant good diety and Daeva meant false gods. In India (amongst Hindus) asura means evil, while deva means god.Due to pre existing divergence between us there was a negative attitude towards our PERSIAN RELIGION .AS kaniska prioritize this religion as state religion,our text tried to make a distance from this historical figure .

You mentioned how kushan worshipped Iranian gods. But aren't the Iranian and Hindu Gods the same. Majority of Iranian gods were indeed a different version of Indian gods. And we mention how Scythian people invaded India, some say that they populised the Sanskrit, earlier it was not followed and used much. Please shed some light on it
@JayVardhanSingh
@JayVardhanSingh 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think Iranian gods are different versions of Indian gods. I haven't come across any source that say so. Secondly the use of Sanskrit by the Shakas of western Kshatrap was part of the process of Indianization. To say that they were distant relatives of Ancient Hindus is, in my view, not based on any evidence. Secondly it is wrong to say that "Sanskrit was not followed and used much". It was used by the priest and help an important place in the educational as well as religious realm. But most of the ancient Indian texts maintained that Sanskrit shouldn't be written. It was because of this practise of not writing Sanskrit we find that most ancient inscriptions use Prakrit.

@@JayVardhanSingh Ohh that's interesting. But I just wanted to ask a question, there are similarities between Indian and Iranian culture and dities , so was it due on influence of Iranian on Indian or the other way. There's got to be something, some say that it was because if out of India migration and some say that it was Iranian/Aryan who bought Hinduism in India. This thing confuses me the most. I think you're the right person to answer this
@JayVardhanSingh
@JayVardhanSingh 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are certain similarities because of the common Indo-European origin of these dieties. You can see it in Iranian religion and also Greco-Roman religion. But why this was so depends on your conclusions. If you believe in AMT you would say that the migration of Indo-Europeans from the Steppe to different regions led to this similarity. If you're a believer of OIT, you would say that the common practises were Indian in Origin and with the spread of Aryan from India it percolated in other cultures as well. I hope I was able to answer you question. Thank you

@@JayVardhanSingh I think probably there were some Indian sources regarding Kuṣāṇa history which are most likely lost or maybe not found as Rājataraṃgiṇī mentions the Kuṣāṇas explicitly. There might be chance the Kalhaṇ'a himself came to know about Kuṣāṇa history from foreign sources but still this seems less likely, because the Kalhaṇ'a not only mentions their dynastic history but also mentions various cities established by different Kuṣāṇa rulers among other things, so either he had access to some source regarding Kuṣāṇa rule in Kashmir and nearby regions which seems more likely or he wrote on the basis of the lore and legends that might have survived all that time among the local populace or the ruling class.
