I've got a 2012 astra j 1.3 dual mass flywheel and clutch to do, it looks the same as this but states you need a tool to depress the clutch, I've got the old fashioned C clips that used to come on vauxhall clutches back in the day, i was worried I wouldn't be able to fit the clutch without this special tool but looks like you have done it without it anyway so I maybe won't need the C clips on the side of the clutch. Just started doing mine basing it off this thanks. 😁 Just to let people know if it's the F17 transmission (5 speed manual) there's no drain plug. Spent 10 mins looking for it before consulting the trusted Haynes. The lower diff cover plate has to be taken off to drain it and apparently a new gasket installed when refitting it.

Thanks for making the videos . 2 questions what determines if you need a new flywheel and also I notice you use red rubber grease and not the grease that usually comes with the clutch kits , is the rubber grease better or doesn’t it really matter ? Thanks 👍

Did you replace clutch in opel 1.7 CDTI about 2009 in astra, combo, ? I can't find this engine on your channel. Or can you advise if 1.3 CDTI is similar and can take it as a base ?

Great video as always, just curiosity question....all the clutches you replace, do you 'diagnose" them as bad first or does someone else? I'm just wondering if you ever shown up to replace one that actually didn't need replacement. I know here in the US, people will have someone "diagnose" a veh issue but turn around and let someone else fix it b/c they're cheaper.......

If the engine rpm increases when you floor it while the speed of the car stays the same, something is slipping in the clutch. Taking the clutch out is the only way I know of to find out whats wrong. For example the friction disc might be rusted to the transmission input shaft, and that can make the clutch slip, but the only way to fix it is to take it out.

Some Gearboxes have "diagnosis holes", where u can pull a rubber part away and watch with a endoscope / telescope camera inside... That's the complicated way... Clutch diagnosis is really simple. You can Google it. The more interesting question is, how does someone decide if it's necessary to change the flywheel or not. Flywheels are really expensive

@@montecs3087 For solid one piece flywheels I never have changed them. Sure they have heat marks and are glossy, but it makes no difference on a regular commuter car application.

Afternoon Kevin The bolts you removed from the gearbox, did you use E sockets of will normal sockets still work, only asking as I have to do the shocks on my vectra and they have these type of headed bolts Cheers Phil

Hi Phil. In this instance I used E sockets. But countless times a 14mm impact socket will do the job perfectly without any issues whatsoever.

Not in the last 6 years. But what I have come across several times is the M32 gearbox that the internal bearing has failed and as soon as it’s tilted it falls apart from the inside. One thing I never fail to do is once gearboxes are out I go through all the gears and spin the lay shaft to check for any roughness in the bearing. Then I can explain to customer the likely outcome. All keep customers in the know then nothing comes back to you.

@@WMCS Ratchet has a 5 year warranty. Battery 2 years for the Fuel Series... As I had a few compact head models break. But I abused them. Was no big deal as they sent me a new one next day...
