What the British did in Kano Nassarawa, Sokoto and the battlefield of Adamawa needs to be properly documented. The then Northern rulers had to stop their in-house fighting to try and repel the British. The British journalist "Dame Flora Louise Shaw" who was also the wife of Lord Lugard, had documented some of the battles in Northern Nigeria. The valiant efforts of the Northern forces and the bravery of the then Rulers needs to be remembered. There is a place in Kogi State were several deposed king's and their cabinet were exiled too. As for the groundnut😂. He is right. Money from the Northern native authority was used drill oil wells. The money was also investment in the Dutch exchange and it proceeds where used to purchase Russian fighter jets during the civil war. When Clement Isong was the head of the CBN The Northern native authority also has a bank account in the UK were most of these transactions were conducted.

Your guide is either in a hurry or he has so much to say. Thank goodness you interrupted and repeated some points to add clarification otherwise I would have missed some key points he sped through.

It is a lie. Groundnut was not used to build the first refinery in Nigeria. In the first republic, they had a regional government and every money generated in each region was used within that region and a percentage was paid to the National government. Each region had its own cash crop. The north had ground nut, the west had cocoa and the east had palm oil. The Eastern Petroleum company was nationalized during or after the civil war. The money used in building the refinery is from palm oil in the east and not the groundnut from the north after all, the economy of the south east was larger and the fastest growing economy in the world at the time.

Which groundnut money? Big lie
@chukwuemekachikelu81532 жыл бұрын
Northern Nigeria was poor and the groundnut proceeds was not enough to take care of their budgetary needs, let alone fund a refinery in the Eastern Region. Remember that the regions were semi-autonomous at the time so Northern Nigeria would never fund a refinery that would be under the control of Eastern Nigeria
