KANSAS - Akron Rib Fest July 5, 1997 Incomplete 79 minutes

Wanted to share this while I am still alive! I shot this on the down low at the AKRON RIB FEST in July 1997. When I shot it on 8mm tape, my battery gave out on the last song CARRY ON WAYWARD SON, and I can't find the master, but I have this lower quality version with over 70 minutes of the show. They were incredible, and on fire for the fans. Blue Oyster Cult opened the show. OF SPECIAL NOTE: STEVE and ROBBY'S VOCALS ARE INCREDIBLE! Steve had a brilliant night and he sang like he was back in 1974!! I have many many bins of family video and a few videos I shot of other bands (with permission), so IF I ever find the master with all but the encore, I will delete this and upload the better version. Again, I just want to share the amazing legacy of KANSAS. Robby Steinhardt dedicated JOURNEY FROM MARIABRON to me in this show, and I dedicate this to his memory. He was a friend, and always an inspiration from the first time I heard them in 1974. Rest In Peace Robby... You are loved and missed......

Oh, a clean, sober Steve Walsh. What a vocal comeback from '92. Voice seems fully recovered and elastic, like back in the 70's. He's also a criminally underrated keyboard player, especially while singing. Thanks for this great video!

Thank you for posting a video I had never seen before. I try to view every video with Steve Walsh. He is such an incredible singer/songwriter/musician. Nice, as well, to hear Robby Steinhardt. May he RIP.

Steve and Robbie were amazing together. Very fortunate to see the original band members back in the mid to late 70's. I always tell people to listen to the Two for the Show double live album from 1978 if you want to hear Kansas at their pinnacle. Walsh's vocals were incredible!

I was 37 in 97. I really liked the band Kansas, they were one of my best, along with Survivor, loved Jimi Jamison voice lead singer for survivor. Eagles, Jefferson Starship, Fleetwood Mac, we had the best of the best 70 and 80s, Styx, Yes, Rush, liked the song Tom Sawyer, Neal pert was a great drummer. We had such great bands ,but are now all in their early 70s and many are passed away. RIP Robbie, RIP Jimi Jamison, some of the eagles have passed on. RIP Neal Pert, it is now so bitter sweet to be getting old myself now at 64 and these guys all in their 70s. We had the best and there's just no more. We were so lucky. Thank you to all our wonderful Musicians. You were so appreciated! ❤

Walsh is obsessed with his hair in this vid. Love it, though. What a captivating band. So complex, yet clear and SO energetic. Absolutely mesmerizing. Been on a Kansas kick for a couple of weeks. This is a new one. The audience noise reminds me of a dead show. Im amazed that the sound is so good. Looks like one show, filmed by one guy, with one camera, standing in the audience.

I love this era of the band.....raw and eager to prove themselves again after the rough patch of the late 80s and 90s. No Elafante tunes or other commercial 80s pop stuff here; just Kansas being the amazing prog rock band they are. Sadly, the shows started getting more 'corporate' in the early 2000s and beyond.

Yea, Steve could have taken better care of his voice. He sounds so strained and harsh. Drugs and hard alcohol will do it!

While true, to be fair he has 20 years of recording/touring on his super high range, super high power voice. Compare this to '92 at the Whisky video - that's when he was under the influence. This is a great rebound imho.
