The singer with the shorter hair is Steve Walsh, and he was the main lead singer. The bearded guy with the massive hair is Robbie Steinhardt(RIP). He was the backing vocalist, sometimes lead vocals, violin player, and usually the "MC" during live performances. This song doesn't have any violin, but a lot of their other stuff features the violin as a main instrument. Steinhardt was amazing! Some of their other great songs are Point of Know Return, Dust In the Wind, Child of innocence, Portrait(He Knew), Miracles Out Of Nowhere, and The Wall.

Kansas is another great example of why the music in the 70s was so incredible. The shear list of great bands from that decade is unbelievable. Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Boston, Aerosmith, Journey, Eagles and the list goes on and on.

Just found some good old Kansas stuff from the 90s. A pretty great live rendition of 'The Wall' from Leftoverture album. Live- The Wall (Rosemont Illinois) 1996. When people talk about Mic Jagger, Freddy Mercury, Robert Plant as great frontmen they better not forget to mention Steve Walsh. He has slayed many a stage. People Of The Southwind and Fight Fire With Fire/Play The Game Tonight are great from that same concert. "Peace". Definitely, need more of that.

One of the best rock songs of all time without a doubt! I saw hundreds of concerts in the 80’s and many of the greats like Journey, Van Halen etc but I never got to see Kansas much to my regret. The guy singing backup with bushy red hair passed away about a year or so ago and now my chance to see them is gone. 😢 I have an aunt who was in high school when I was in fifth grade and she was really into good rock and she got to see them play at some rinky dink bar in East Texas in the late 70’s or very early 80’s. She said they were fantastic. They were truly talented musicians, with deep lyrics and beautiful harmonies. And the red haired guy also played the violin on many of their songs (Dust in the Wind). Super talented band. My two oldest kids are 30 and 27 and I listened to Kansas so much when they were growing up that they had no choice but to be of children of the 70’s!

🤯🤯🤯 This the first time I've EVER heard you say ur glad you watched the live video instead of doing just the audio!!!👏👏👏👏 That tickled me to no end!!🤗 Anyway, this is exactly why I prefer live performances. You asked me once, in one of your livestreams why I preferred Live. This vid is the perfect example... You just witnessed these humans connecting while creating one of the most iconic songs of all-time. They were all "one" for those few minutes in time, jamming on their instruments with their bare hands. This was human souls truly connecting with NO "engineering" interference!! UGH!! It's SO difficult to put what I'm trying to say into words but basically, if you'd just done the studio track you would've never known the HUMAN connection that went into it..... Ok, even that explanation doesn't come close to what I'm trying to say either!!🤦♀️😅 So I'll just end this with.... I'm SO HAPPY you did the Live performance!!😁 Just a FUN FACT for anyone interested.... in 2005, almost 30 years after this songs release in 1976, it unexpectedly became the unofficial theme song of my all-time favorite show "Supernatural"!!! (Best show ever!!🙃😁) Towards the end of the shows 15 year run, Kansas surprised the fans of the show and actually performed it live at the HUGE COMIC-CON convention in San Diego, in August of 2017!! It was awesome and they were still as amazing as ever!!!👊 Point is, 30 years later, as with most great art, this song is still very much relevant, and it always will be..... If you'd had the lyrics pulled up (like u normally do!😉) the greatness of the song would've been ten-fold for you..... You're a lyrics and vocals guy Biz, SOOOOO... where the hell are the lyrics in your reactions lately??? You're missing so much without them.😢 For example: You just did "Bring Me To Life" - Evanescence without the lyrics being pulled up. While you totally got the greatness of the song sonically.... you missed the beauty and power of message in the lyrics.😭😭 Anyway, those are just my thoughts on the whole lyrics issue! lol!! Love ya Biz and awesome pick and reaction!!😎❤

Dude, Kansas is such a deep rabbit hole. Not for the one looking for 4 chord pop songs though. They get pretty long winded and proggy, but it’s totally worth it if you’re into musicianship. Even the later stuff like “Monolith” and “Audio Visions” are, while less popular, fully involving. I love how they’ve almost succeeded at laying a live performance over the recorded version of the song. A testament to how practiced they were. Timing is almost perfect.

Kansas did not have but a handful of top 40 hits, however, what they left us is memorable from the 1970's, a time when Disco ruled and only the exceptional outside of Disco made the pop charts! Dust In The Wind and Point Of No Return were their other hits. Worth a listen.

Kansas is worth exploring from 1974 (their debut) until 1980, between "Kansas" upto and including "Audio Visions (1980)". After that there's been struggles within the band, original singer leaving and all that and the music suffered. 1986's "Power" album was a one-off resurgence. Kansas is quite unique in their sound. Prog-rock with an edge and intelligent lyrics. Or is that lirycs. Never remember. Sad thing is I always remember I don't remember. Cheerio Biz.

Back in the day when this was hot for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived there so a buddy and I had to go to Red Rocks Colorado(God's Cathedral). Very well worth the trip and a nice ride on a couple of Harleys with our girls. 300 miles each way, and worth it.😁 I've seen them since then with the new band members in Reno (Harrah's former outdoor venue) Still killin' it. I still have this LP./Album. "Point of Know Return" and "Dust in the Wind" are two other deep songs from that era 45 years ago. "Surely Heaven waits for you"😇 They're still played on classic rock radio +45 years.

There are 2 singers but Steve Walsh takes lead most of the time. He's their vocal powerhouse. Robbie Steinhardt, the other vocalist is the violinist in the band, however not in Wayward Son. The blonde guitarist in the video is the composer and genius of the band. When he dropped out the band tanked. So I just Googled them for a play list, and it's an amzing one you can't go wrong with. Enjoy! Hope to hear more and love listening to your reviews. You're adorable. Thank you Mr Biz

Steve Walsh/Kansas is among the best if not the best rock tenor of the 70's. Included in that list would have to be Steve Perry/Journey ......................... Lou Graham/Foreigner ........& .Freddie Mercury/Queen. Steve Walsh besides playing keys, mp3 Hammond Organ had an insane vocal range up to an operatic fallsetto. Steve also wrote for the band where one of those obscure pieces written was called ....." Devil Game" was so hard on Steve's vocals that they only performed it 5 t imes live throughout their touring career. A big shout out to the late Robbie Steinhart RIP ...who matched pitch backing up Steve 's vocals along with the violin liicks we grew to love! A deep dive into Kansas's material is so worth it.!...Progressive Rock from the heartland! ....one worth experiencing ! 😎✌
