Alpha Elmo - imo he has some mental/emotional problems - so sometimes people do not or are not capable of looking directly into the eyes when speaking to another, in fact actors are given multiple types of excercises just for that, focus on the person, get past whatever that eye to eye contact makes you uncomfortable.
