Hi! In case you’re watching this and wondering why I added the kaolin clay and essential oils when I did, I just completely forgot to add them both before dividing the soap. 😂 Since they were going into the entire batch (and the EOs were non-accelerating), I could have just added them to the oils or before I divided the soap for the swirl. Honestly, I'm glad I remembered them at all given the day I was having. It was just one of those days. 😜 Hope you’re all doing well! Thanks so much for watching! -Holly :)

@@chemsciencetechnology You’ll have to run it through a soap/lye calculator to get the amount of water and sodium hydroxide for your specific recipe. After you enter all of your ingredients like I did at the end, you select Calculate and it will tell you those amounts. Hope this helps! :)

You are absolutely my favorite soap instructor ... I am an old soap maker, a chemist and an artist .... I totally appreciate your precise method and artistry! So well done ... thank you so much! When I learned, there were no wonderful tools like videos of those who really are accomplished in the craft - like yourself - it is such a treat and a privilege to be let in on tips and tricks that , literally, can take years to fine tune and master! You've already answered some of my problems that I could never resolve ... and you capture the MAGIC that soap making is ... it's endless fun, ENDLESS!

Hi Holly! I love watching your videos. You are so inspiring. Everything you make is so beautiful. I was wondering if you could please tell me where you buy your white kaolin clay? I have purchased from two different companies and they have both been varying shades of grey, one was quite dark, the other one lighter, but by no means actually white as yours is. I would like to find a white clay. The "white" kaolin clay I use colors my soaps grey, therefore I can't use it unless it's for a soap I want that color.

These are so beautiful! I have a tough time with soda ash when using activated charcoal. Could you tell me which mold you used? Love the size of bars!
@otternase35623 жыл бұрын
Using less water generally helps avoiding soda ash. I only use 200g of water for 600-700g of oils or 1000g of total soap weight
@hollysoapmaking3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Using less water usually helps me with ash (if you're comfortable with water discounts, using a 35% lye concentration instead of 33%)...plus keeping the mold covered tightly with plastic wrap and a lid so no fresh air gets in for at least 48 hours (until saponification is complete) helps, too. Hope that helps! I purchased the mold from Workshop Heritage on Etsy. I think they're still on Etsy but you might try just a google search. The mold was called a double tall and skinny, I believe. I love the bar size, too. Their silicone liners are really nice and come off so easily. 😊

How does a new soap maker know when our mix is at emulsion? I've only made 2 batches of soap and while I figured out what was causing them to seize, I now would love to know how to get to emulsion so I can start doing some designs. Biological science, I'm totally good with. Chemistry, not so much. :-D''''' Edit: Also, how long is the actual fully cured process if using the oven method like you use? Still 4-6 weeks?
