I've talked about this before, I think that the actual metal used to hold the primordial fire is part of the chaos entity. In ascension they say that the world was created when the primordials fought and killed each other. So I think that ares found a piece of the primordial chaos entity and gave them to hephestus and he used them to hold primordial fire.
@luadevargas127 Жыл бұрын
I've always thought of something very similar, since metals and such are part of the worlds nature (world formed by these very primordial beings), the Blades were forged with Chaos "essence" and imbued with another primordial force, the Fire, which is infinite in power since it's the source of every fire in these many "worlds" or "realms". One other thing i like to think about the Blades is a kind of parallel to the power of Hope, conjured by Athena (which i see as the opposite of Ares), a force for good and rebuilding, and the Blades of Chaos, a force of evil and destruction, those two "powers" are among the 3 most powerfull weapons at least in the greek world, with the Blade of Olympus actually being the least powerful between the three, even tough we see it as being the most one. Anyway thanks to whoever reads this and actually gives any tought.
@13superjedi Жыл бұрын
@Luã de Vargas this would actually make perfect sense, especially if you consider that Surtr himself looks like he isn't just made up of fire, but organic material as well and even shiny parts on him that is clearly metal, so the idea of a Primordial Being composed of fire AND metal is definitely on the table of possibilities in the GoW universe. Who's to say the Primordial Tartarus in Greek mythology wasn't similarly composed of fire, lava, molten rock, and metal? I believe I even read once in one of the same novels Kap mentioned about the Chains of the Blades of Chaos being indestructible and incapable of corrosion or being chipped or nicked or dulled and so on. This would make for good shackles that could forever imprison an Immortal being like say, a Titan? 👀 and all the Titans were chained in Tartarus with unbreakable chains by Zeus himself. Kratos literally made a bond with the Blades, so after killing Ares, or perhaps even after breaking his oath by killing the Furies, no chains made in the Underworld could ever hold him... but my dramatic theorist brain has dug deep enough of a rabit hole for one night, and apologizes to all who have to read this long rambling comment ✌️
@luadevargas127 Жыл бұрын
@@13superjedi first of all, i like reading these and sharing opinions and theories, so don't be sorry; So to be more in depth, i strongly believe what you said to be the case, i see the primordials as the "stuff" that forms the universe, the basic foundations of reality (only the lower plane) formed from their conflict, they are forces of nature but they're more as well, they are concepts, such as Chaos for example, and that being said, the Blades being forged from the very flesh of Chaos makes it part of him, a being of pure power that predates existence, imbued with fire from the same ages makes the Blades of Chaos weapons beyond Greek Mythology, just like David Jaffe once said that he tought about in an interview (which unfortunately i don't remember right now exactly, but i PROMISE i will send the link with the time when i find it). Being the "Blades of Chaos", i wouldn't be surprised if they act like a symbiote in Spider-Man 3, very subtle but always bringing out the worst in their wielder, feeding their rage, and acting towards the will of their master "Chaos" (yeah i know it's too much fanfic). Oh and the Surtr's body example was great, i didn't even think of it, so thanks (and sorry about another text, but it's yout fault for making me think too deep like a philosopher about the Blades).

The thing is chaos was the beginning of ALL elements so technically primordial fire is of essence from chaos
@13superjedi Жыл бұрын
@Georgian countryball You're right! I remember this excerpt taken from what I think was that old Website they used to promote the Chains of Olympus game: The Caves of Mount Olympus hold the flame that spawned all others: the Primordial Fire, which long ago was stolen and given to man by the Titan Prometheus. It is the flame that gives the God Helios his power and the source of Helios' energy. "In the beginning, there was nothingness, Chaos. Out of it came Life, which split its essence evenly among the Primordials, who then proceeded to shape everything in existence. The Primordial Fire was one of these powers born out of the essence of the original Life. Upon its creation, it departed to another world outside the living universe, spawning all fires in existence during the process. After the birth of the Hecatonchires and their imprisonment by Ouranos, the primordial goddess Gaia, highly distressed by the tyranny of her husband, met with her son, Hyperion, eldest and wisest among the Titans. He suggested that one would need a tremendous amount of energy to connect the (at the time separated) realms of Tartarus and the land of the living in order to free the Hecatonchires, and so Gaia bestowed the powers of the Primordial Fire upon him so he could use them to create a Hyperion Gate connecting the realm of Tartarus with the world of the living and rescue them, thus leading to the birth of the Power of the Sun. Upon the Titans' defeat, the Power of the Sun left Hyperion's body and passed on to Helios, who used its immense might to banish the 'primordial evils of the darkness' and force them back into the shadows to restore order to the Living World."

The fact that his blades are of a primordial fire and chaos makes sense when you look at Greek mythology as a whole. Chaos in the original Greek beliefs was a neutral force that gave birth to everything in the universe. It isnt specifically a negative force but one that causes evolution and adaptation of life and people. This is fitting considering its the chaos of Kratos' life that led him down the path he is on now, including his growth and adaptation, yet it is also his literal burden to bare. Loki is also the personification of chaos in the Nordic pantheon and in the original pantheon, Loki's father was Fárbauti which translates to "Anger Striker" or "He who strikes with anger". Fire is also seen as a life giving force in countless Pagan religions including Greek and Nordic stories and pantheons. Loki is associated with fires as the Ash Lad in some tales on top of being a bringer of Chaos for both bad and good. Essentially, the world being born from chaos and fire is a running theme in a lot of paganism which the developers do well to show. The God of War writers have clearly done their research and have connected the Greek and Nordic Pantheon through basically every single shared belief between the cultures, resulting in the translation between the old god of war and the new ones feeling seamless. Past mistakes leading to greater redemptions and outcomes is also a common thing found in both pantheons as well, as the many mistakes of Loki led to technological advancements for humanity. As for the Greeks, the mistake Chronos made leads to the rise of the gods and the creation of the lands. Where there is chaos and fire, there is growth, adaptation, life and hope. All things Kratos possesses.

Might I add that Chaos was, in Greek mythology, the origin of everything? In comparison, in Norse mythology, at the beginning of everything there were two realms: Muspelheim (primordial realm of fire) and Niflheim (primordial realm of ice). Considering that Surtr is one of the jötun linked directly to Muspelheim and creation, I took his words as "both my flame and that blades' come from before Creation Myths". From what I gather, the blades had a power no god could wield without the chaos energy inside them tainting the god using it, and no mortal could withstand the power it gave. The fact that even to this day Kratos has many of the gifts that his father gave him, such as godlike durability and endurance, but also demi-god powers in turn. It honestly seems to me like Zues had planned long ahead to remove Ares from his seat as the god of war, and wanted someone he thought he could control. Maybe what Hercules said about Kratos being Zues's favorite was very much true for that reason. Afterall if he could control something or someone with godlike power, who could also wield a primordial weapon like the blades of chaos, give them the power of the god of war, and the seat of power with it in Olympus... then you would have the strongest weapon in the world. Stronger than even the blade of Olympus and with the power to go to other realms and worlds without being nerfed due to how each world works. Afterall if Zues could wield a person using the blades, he could conquer not only the Norse Universe, but the Egyptian and Aztec's ones as well using Kratos alone. Afterall Kratos has already proven that without most of his weapons from his greek universe, that he can take out and overpower even Odin in his own realm and on his own home turf, being his own universe. As well as overpower Tyr even still who has experience and training from every one of those other universes/worlds. So if Kratos had been on Zues's side, he would have been used more than likely to invade the other realms, worlds, and kill the other gods to take their power and land for himself (zues).

I guess that means the plot holes where kratos killed gods before having the “god killing power” from the box was that the blades gave him the power to kill a god, but he didn’t know it… unless it was the strength specifically to kill the strongest of gods instead. Or even just not relying on the blades but his own hands to be able to kill them

The blades are a symbol of Kratos’s pledge to ares. Something that he can’t undo. Even with ares dead, even with the pantheon gone, he still pledged his life away. He still has the chain marks on his forearm.

This stuff is deep, at some point we need a game/story focused on the blades as well as his ashes, time to bring this stuff full circle. Edit: And considering atreus is on his own adventures and likely will get a spinoff this would be the perfect opportunity for the mainline gow franchise to focus on only kratos himself.

I think Chaos is the blank canvas the Primordial Elements come from, whether Fire or not. The title is misleading as they've been depowered multiple times throughout the series. I want the Axe to be upgraded with Primordial Ice & do Sinmara what the blades did to Surtur. Ex. Sindri weaponizes ruble from Asgard, so Sinmara uses the Axe to stop Surtur's heart & become Ragnarök.

I have an idea; My thought is that when Olympus was destroyed, all the spells were destroyed, but since the gods were destroyed, Olympus may have been destroyed, but since Kratos did not die, I think that his magic still remains, and yes, if it is also built blade with primordial caos or primordial fire, the use of such a weapon requires a great responsibility, so Kratos, knowing this, hid the weapons in the first game (2018) and hesitated to give them to his son for fear that he would be tied in the same way.

The same novels which you reffer to state that the Blade of Artemis is superior to Blades of Chaos. And against Thanatos (4:51), Kratos used Blades of Athena, which are also stated as superior to Blades of Chaos. Blades of Chaos are, quite frankly, fodder-tier weapons by GoW standards. The Aesir should really be glad they didn't have to deal with GoW3 Kratos, armed with Blades of Exile (stated in-game as Kratos' most powerful allies against Olympus, which includes Blade of Olympus).

I think one thing your are missing is that Surtur spent basically his whole life trying to forge a blade of high enough quality to harness his primordial fire so he could become Ragnarok without needing Sinmara. He might not be the best of craftsmen we have seen but the fact that even he, a primordial being with outstanding power in his home realm, was not able to craft something that rivaled the blades of chaos even though it was his life's focus and mission. It might indicate that the essence of Chaos was indeed needed by Hephaestus to affix the primordial fire to the blades as that is likely a type of power that Surtur never thought to use. My hypothesis with this crafting blueprint then, is that Hephaestus used Chaos infused metal or perhaps metal derived from chaos directly, to both forge the shape of the blades and contain the primordial fire within them which likely would include the chains that pair with them. It might explain then why Kratos went back for the blades of Chaos over those of the Exile as, while the blades of Exile could mimic those of Chaos when deriving power from Greece itself, it was no longer powered when the lands of Greece died and only the primordially crafted weapons like the blades of Chaos could stay magically powered. I also believe this is true of the Blade of Olympus but its primordially linked power source: the flames of Olympus, were annihilated when Pandora extinguished them. You may then ask how the blade of Olympus remained powered through the fight with Zeus as it was still used to kill Gaia and mortally wounded Zeus's physical body. My explanation for that is the power source shifted from the fires of Olympus to the power of Hope within Kratos which was possible because Zeus tricked Kratos into binding his godly soul/essence to the blade in GoW 2 which linked him, and the Hope he carried within him, to become one with the blade. This is further substantiated when Kratos, at the end of the battle, stabbed himself to release the power of Hope into Greece to one day heal and revive the land as that is the exact moment when the blade dimmed indicating it had lost its true power. Kratos, as he lay wounded likely then tried to gather up all the weapons he had only to see that they were no longer salvageable which is why he went to his throne room to claim the blades of Chaos that started his journey. I honestly think though that even if he didn't go back to personally claim them, the blades were already bound to him closely enough that they would have still constantly followed him as they did in his brief trip to Egypt where he tried to get rid of them

A thought occurred to me. The Blades of Chaos are Primordial fire. What if the leviathan axe, contains primordial Ice. So the weapons he carries throughout the Norse saga represent both ends of existence in the creation myth, and post Ragnarok, we know he is prophesied to be a real god with worshippers. What if he rebuilt the same way the ginnungagap was filled between the realm by using the primordial ice and fire

Surtr never said the primordial fire was the same as his, just that the Blades had them, not only that Kratos literally says "They are not of these lands" to with Surtr responds "Shouldn't matter", so if anything the fire is not the same, but the type of primordial magic is, primordial is primordial regardless of where it is, it simply can be used in a multitude of different ways. What this interaction means is that primordial magic was one of the most common magics in Greek mythology while the Norse realm is less focused in primordial magic, however the place they are created still affects their outcome. The Blades of Chaos aren't just created with Primordial fire, they are bound to Kratos an immortal god, so give one of the most powerful type of magics in the universe and bound them to 1 immortal being? Those blades are never getting weaker, in fact, they can get weaker since they react to Kratos's emotions, so in the original trilogy they merely got stronger as his rage grew, in 2018 and Ragnarok they are powerful but much less lethal, not only because Kratos is less brutal.

in a sense yes. Chaos was among the first forces that made nyx then the titans. Nyx is older than zues and the Olympian gods. She's the goddess of night and the only goddess zues feared as zues sees her as older but more powerful than him. Once her son Hypnos (god of dreams) was tasked by ares and Athena to trap zues into a bed and make him trapped in a sleep while ares and Athena took over ruling olympus. Zues snapped out of it and Chased Hypnos in rage. He ran into his mother's cave to hide from Zues. Once Zues saw where the younger God fled, he quickly calmed down and left them both alone not wanting to anger nyx.

What's crazy is the blades of chaos was stripped from him, he then gained the blades of Olympus which was also stripped from him, then he gained the blades of exile. Which Athena said was stronger. Which he had at the end of the 3rd game. So it was really weird that he went back to the blades of chaos.
@justsomeguy747 Жыл бұрын
Athena likely had power over Kratos, and her giving him the Blades of Exile likely made Kratos her servant, even if Athena never referred to him as a servant and treated him as an equal or at least was very helpful and patient in his quest. By completing Athena’s quest, his link to the blades was severed and the chains were removed. It’s possible that, had Kratos remained Ares’ servant, that he would have removed Kratos’ chains, just like Athena removes them. And thus, it is possible that the Blades of Exile reverted back to its original form as Kratos has completed his quest, and the Blades of Chaos constantly found their way back to Kratos, a curse likely placed on him by Athena as revenge for his actions. Because, if the Blades were all separated versions of a similar weapon, how come the BOC never found their way to Kratos before? My headcanon is that Athena modified it with her own powers.

(This does depend on which version of the Greek Mythos you read) In one rendition - The Primordial Fire in the Greek mythos is something that Prometheus stole from the workshop of Hephaestus on Lemons after Zesus denied them it out of fear that mankind would rise above or not need the Olympians anymore. In other tales, they seem to share more about Zesus being embarrassed regarding what meat they'll get between the Gods and Humans. Since the fire in the Blades of Chaos is Primordial Fire the reason they can't go out or don't lose power is because their fire comes from the primordial powers of the Cosmos itself.

I think one thing we should remember is that Freya described magic in HER understanding. In the Norse realm, magic is indeed bound to the Earth, or rather to the essence of Ymir that was used to fashion the realms. In the Greek realm, the abundance of primordial power was practically overflowing after the primordial gods destroyed each other that to even keep the world stable, most of that power were contained in the gods themselves. Hence when they die, all of their power is thrusted back into the world, and with each death Kratos brought the world to its primordial form Also we already witnessed how Kratos lost his magic as in GOW2 most of them were bound to his weapons and the Blade of Olympus, and the only magic that was truly his was the Spartan Rage When Kratos lost his old weapons, it wasn't because the world died, it was becauee Zeus broke them. However it's still interesting that the Blades were unharmed, perhaps there was something truly special about them, something that allowed them to resist the corrupted Zeus' power

I think I've got it. Look at how the Draupnir Spear was made; the dwarves made the spear head (its form), added the magic of the ring and wind (the function and abilities) and the finished with the blood or essence of a god(to imbue it with power). Same with the Blades; Hephaestus forged the steel, added primordial fire, and bound everything together with the blood/essence of Chaos itself. The really question now is; who's blood went into the Axe?

I believe the inconsistency with the power level of the blades is due to them needing a recharge of energy. In gameplay you can upgrade the blade by imbuing them with chaos flames 🔥, the element which powers the blades and adds further support to your primordial chaos theory. Your recharging and reforging the blades and when they lack that recharge, they eventually revert back to their original state and this can also explain why red orbs in the OG trilogy can upgrade the blades as Kratos is using the very essence of life therefore chaos to charge and evolve the blades naturally but lost the ability to do so after Greece fell. In story, Surtur supercharges the blades in order to give the blades enough power to kickstart Surtur’s transformation as he was incapable to do so himself with that ice heart in him, cooling him down. So when Kratos stabbed his heart, he used up all that power solely to transform Surtur. Even in the beginning of Ragnarok, it’s been stated multiple times that Fimblewinter has been sapping Kratos of his power, this would include the blades of chaos which reverted back to their original state. Even in both 2018 and the tie-in comic the blades after greeces fall and many years without use, the blades again reverted back to their original state after being de-powered for so long. It’s like they are the magic equivalent to rechargeable battery’s……….attached to chain blades.

Do you have a theory about kratos and atreus and freyar going to Egypt in the next game is there going to be anubis the god of death
@cobaltprime9467 Жыл бұрын
I think it’s as simple as the Blades stemming from Chaos. In accurate Greek Lore she was the primordial that existed before all else. The void before creation. She is a fundamental part of the whole universe, regardless of the Land of a given Pantheon. In chaos there could be fire among other elements. The other Primordials did spawn from Chaos. I know I’m basing this on original lore and not GOW’s version of Greek mythology but it’s not impossible for this to be true given the current writers are heavily trying to keep to lore. The Blades somehow have ties to her. Perhaps Tartarus, a Primordial, and the fiery depths Hephaestus crafted nearby, was where the Blades got their fire. Expert craftsmanship that combined Chaos and Fire into an undying power. Thus, when Athena turned them into Blades of Exile, they were no longer the same. They reverted upon the destruction of Olympus. But are also cursed to be with Kratos forever. It also made them the perfect conduit for Surtr to channel his primordial fire into. The same source he wielded.
@simonauvray3643 Жыл бұрын
I have my little theory about this situation. First, the reason for them still working and not just becoming a bunch of dull blades like the rest of his equipment and magic, is that the power of the blade is IMBUED and not DRAWING magic from the earth, meaning that his power is from the blades and not Greece. The reason that the blades are still with him can be seen from the first game, with him making a deal that he cannot escape as it is part of his soul, and the blades come with it, they are part of him and without them he is not complete, like when you explained how he was way more stronger when he carried the blades, it made him stronger. Now for the name, in mythology, weapon names are very important, as sometimes their name are accurate to what they are. All that we know is that the blades are made in Greece by the smith, and he could have just found the essence and imbued it to the blades, and I think that is what happens, but that the weapons are also a representation of chaos and is chaos. I mean before Kratos, their was a sort of order, but all was destroyed when he got the blades. I do also think that the power of his blades also become stronger with his emotions but that's for another time. To some extent, we also know that Tyr has done some some traveling through greece and possibly other places, meaning that these worlds are connected and thus, have some connections when it comes to creation. emotions and concepts are what created the world, so it wouldn't be a far stretch to say tat these blades are literally chaos in his hands.

Very possible, Kratos + Blades = Chaos all around.
@GhostOfSnuffles Жыл бұрын
The blades are fragments of Chaos found in Tartarus and forged with primordial fire, that means they were made of materials that are even older then the Titans. Since both primordial fire and Chaos are the literal foundation on which every realm sits the blades are not effected by which realm they happen to be in, to them it's all one in the same. This could also mean that since they were bonded to Kratos that he himself is now something of a primordial God/Titan, they could very well be the source of his current status as a God rather then him being the former God of war, afterall, the Greek realm is gone and all of it's power with it meaning if that was the source of Kratos powers he should have returned to being mortal long ago.
@skaterluis3397 Жыл бұрын
If that is the case shouldn't it be possible that kratos has been using the chaos blades throughout the whole series or did Athena switch them out in god of war III but maybe making it an illusion that it's the blades of exile
