There are 2 more possibilities 1. He didn't die and just teleported away to save himself. Its kinda hinted that he can teleport when he does a Batman and suprises Odin by appearing behind him in the scene before the Muspelheim mission. 2. The devs didn't want his body hanging around during the boss fight.

9:25 you do not watch long enough. If you keep watching and look at the Hammer when Odin grabs it, those blue flakes are still around. I believe Giant magic put him in the Hammer. Remember how Thor puts mead on Mjölnir in the beginning of the game ? I think it is an extension of the Thunder God My theory is he actually went into Mjölnir when he died. The games have a theme of spirits being in weapons. We see his body diminish like Fenrirs unlike Baldur,Magni and Heimdell. We see many clues of the weapon “being alive” and Thrud also says “I’ll make you proud dad” before taking the hammer and flying off. What if this is them telling us that Thor is in the hammer and will help Thrud in her journey as a Shield Maiden. Ps. Would love some “DLC Theory” videos lol

7:39 Still, to this day, this scene is that well made that I can't figure it out what Athena truly meant by "Forgive me .. brother." On one hand, she may be referring to Kratos as "brother", so she showed empathy for Kratos' misery. On the other hand, that "brother" could mean Ares, so she is truly sorry for the fact that she stopped Ares from killing Kratos on the day Deimos was kidnapped. Also she may be sorry for aiding Kratos in killing Ares, because it seems Kratos is worse than Ares. The first time I heard this line, Ares came to my mind. For me, the "brother" being Ares just made much more sense in that context.
@HitmanHimself
@HitmanHimself Жыл бұрын
Nice Thought, I always thought she was referring to kratos as brother and showing empathy for him. That brother could be for ares aswell but I also doubt she had any love for ares, tho Athena never hated Ares or wanted him dead(Until Ares attacked Athens in GoW1) but Ares always tried to defame her sister and didn't like her as Athena was Zeus' favourite child. But when ares became a nuisance to olympus and attacked her city, she tasked kratos to get rid of Ares. So I don't know who she was referring to.. can be either, i incline more on kratos just because the devs might be using that dialogue to indicate that Athena is Kratos' sister.. Now that u have thought about it being ares, even if game devs didn't intend it to ares initially they might change it and tell that in an interview lol, not eve kidding 😂
@alexcogames636
@alexcogames636 Жыл бұрын
@@HitmanHimself I don't think Athena has any love for Ares too, she is "sorry" like "what Have I done? what have I made? A monster even worse than Ares was." It's about the better of 2 evils, "the lesser evil". Anyways, your point about devs showing that Athena is Kratos' sister and everything, I agree too. And the devs wont confirm or deny either of these situation for sure 😅, that is the beauty of the situation.

Did y’all like the 2nd battle with Thor? Sure it had some cool cutscenes but it was still just fought in the same circle. I thought baldur’s fight was amazing because we went flying everywhere and even climbed a giant, there were multiple areas we were fighting in. In my opinion we should’ve been climbing and jumping around the world serpent for the final battle.

Thanks for the shoutout Kuba! I do want to address the topic of whether or not you consider Thor's sacrifice a "selfless sacrifice" - here's an answer you can get behind: "Its a fair argument to say it wasn't really a sacrifice. It wasn't as straightforward as Athena's. But after his fight with Kratos, Kratos tells him, we must be better, for the sake of our children. In the end when he stands up against Odin, his change of heart, he died for Thrud & Sif, to be better, for the sake of his children. Remember what Brok said, it's not the "form" of a thing that matters, but the "nature" of a thing. His form was that of a Destroyer, but his nature, a man seeking forgiveness. (Its not the outside that matters, but whats on the inside) I think in the end, he changed his nature and it wasn't for him, but for his family. That's just the way I saw it anyways. The way he died and what happens to him was convincing enough for me."

I have to add that Athena was pretty much the same kind of a-hole were at the end of GoW3 as the Olympians were throughout the game. She wanted the power of hope to rule of mortals and seemingly rebuild Greece to her desires. Athena is written as being just like Zeus, and she's just physically ascended. That's a departure for her GoW1 and 2 depictions, but it's still similar to her GoW 2018 depiction. If one is ascended to this Higher Plain of Existence, it doesn't seem to make you a better person. So, you probably don't need to be a good person to get there.

Why does everyone forget that Thor is half Giant? The particle effect used on Thor's death is the same we saw when Kratos and Atreus spread Faye's ashes, and at the end of the dream Kratos has when he is on a boat with Faye and baby Atreus. Kuba, do you think sindri will be able to forgive kratos and atreus? Will he be the vehicle by which the Norse saga ends, maybe involving something from the spark of the world? Sindri is incredibly talented and rightfully pissed at us for the death of brok. It makes me think he might be able to send us away for good and, in his eyes, get revenge. This could also work narratively if he separates us from atreus by making vengeance the reason for us 'losing' another child. It could be a way to force kratos into thinking about a bigger picture and thus lead into the higher plane of existence potentially. It could even force him to lash out again and bring back some of that old kratos rage in order to try and get back to midgard.

I can already see a scene in the next game where Kratos is on a Nile boat and a callback to Athena appearing on the boat in god of war 2018 except this time its Thor maybe talking to him or sharing wisdom he's learnt

i would like to see the higher plane of existence not only because its mentioned by athena and maybe shown in the comics but also because thats kind of what odin was looking for in a way he was looking for answers as to what gods are born for so maybe that includes where they end up when they die, another thing i think it would be cool if thor dying like that symbolized that he was going to the higher plane of existence but i think he died like that because hes half giant it kind of reminded me of how fayes ashes were kinda whispy and just floated away as light rather than just ashes and to me that makes sense because thor can also be seen in the mural left for kratos at the end of the game hes just standing behind him colored in blue like the way his spirit particles looked as they whisped away

Athena died on Mount Olympus, the highest point in the Greek world and Faye was spread at the highest point in all the Norse Realms, so maybe Faye will go there... Also the ash effect looked similar to Thor and Athena's deaths.

Despite he is god, he is still also half-giant, so his soul could went into Light of Alfheim just like other giants like Faye or probably his mother Fjorgyn, maybe this is the reason why Thrúd was in Alfheim with Mjornir to make contact to his soul. I have also theory that after he died, his soul went into Mjornir just like one part of Fenrir’s soul went into Atreus’ knife.

In the first game we see Magni's body stay there, Atreus points out that he did not make his way to Valhalla because Gods find their own way to Valhalla but he did not because Odin closed the way to prevent Kratos from getting into Asgard. Perhaps this was just Thor's soul finding its way to Valhalla before it was destroyed?

@Kaptain Kuba can u finally address the fact that kratos breaks the fourth wall in 2018 and he is talking to Faye. And why didn't he do it again in ragnarok. I think it's because she is in the axe and those dreams he had of her were really her coming to his dream to motivate him and push him in the right direction

Hugin & Munin(ripp bozo) are definitely some backup plan for Odin, They were regular ravens before Odin messed with them so they probably have their own will with a fragment of Odins soul in them, Would be cool if Hugin joined Atreus on his adventure & perhaps would be torn between resurecting his master or siding with his new friends

This makes sense with why those chose the personality they did for odin. The games can go through the pantheons and then tie it all together.

I thought Thor's death was weird too , maybe he wasn't sent to the higher existance realm, but maybe to another realm. Odin had powerful artefacts, maybe his spear could have this power too.

I think the 2 frozen lightning bolts are linked to Thor's essence being stored until a vessel is found, OR what if his soul went into his hammer and Artreus will revive him in the future creating an even stronger bond between them.

If that's the case, Then Freyr might have also ascended to the higher plane of existence coz Freyr also did a selfless act of protecting his sister and company and the realms. Ofcourse we didn't see him dying but wild assumption 🤷

I know the winds of Odin are more in competition tripping over them selfs to Impress daddy but I’d like to explore more of the relationship of the brothers… I feel like maybe baldur and Thor had a good relationship since the shear the same chefs tattoo and baldur had a world serpent tattoo on his back referencing thor

What about Freyr tho? He legit give his life for everyone to escape, If he comes back in the same form Athena did then the sacrifice requirement would have to be one of the reason why a god ascends to the higher plane

To me the criteria to be worthy enough for the higher realm of existence is seems less about sacrificing oneself and mostly has to do with the choice of "being better" one of the most prominent themes of the norse saga

I think your on to something since they clearly plan to do more with this universe and other mythology’s. They all need a way to connect in the end with some big plot and I think the higher plane of existence would make most since since it’s pretty much cannon

I think one detail missed here is Odin's spear. I don't really remember it being mentioned in game but his spear is already famous; Gungnir. for the most part, virtually any other damage to a god will heal, Gungnir is specifically designed to give immortals mortal wounds it doesn't matter who

A thought occurred to me whilst watching this video; what if the qualifying factor to get into the higher plane of existence has nothing to do with what you do but who you choose to be? The Norns told Kratos and Freya they were so easily predictable, which made the Norns appear to have powers of foresight, because they too set in their way to make different choices. Athena made the choice to sacrifice herself. To not be a proud and selfish God, and instead be a selfless and caring daughter. Thor made the choice to disobey Odin. To not be the obedient son, and instead be the good father. Kratos made the choice not to kill Thor. To not be the callous ruthless killer he was made to be, and instead show mercy, empathize with his enemy, and hope for a better outcome. Kratos’ own dialogue seemingly supports the idea of character growth being the driving force of the story. “We will be the gods we choose to be.” “Do not be sorry. Be better.” “We must be better than this.” “We must be better. For the sake of our children.” My point is reinforced even more now that the Valhalla DLC is out. It’s one massive therapy session for Kratos, demonstrating monumental character growth to the point he’s willing to accept his old title as God of War because he’s now redefined what that means. It’s about personal growth. Choosing to grow is what gets you into the higher plane, even if that means your immediate death.

Hey idk if you’ve thought this or if anyone else has said but the colour the mask glows aswel as the tear associated with the mask look like they could be the same colour we see Athena as once she’s reached the “higher existence” I don’t know if I’m right just a theory but it would also fit with Odin saying he wants to know what happens to him once he died, could the mask and tear be a way to see/enter the “higher existence”

I wanna hear your theory about valhalla. there was a small talk post story about it but it was left in the air. nobody knows what happened to it. since odin is confirmed to not go to valhalla, does the other gods like thor, heimdall and baldur go to valhalla?
@jetset1nine3
@jetset1nine3 Жыл бұрын
Baldur would’ve went to Valhalla but since he died after the battle he souls was commended to Helheim like in Norse myth. Heimdall likely went to Valhalla which is probably how Forseti learned Kratos killed him & passed the information along to Mist & Hrist.

I personally believe that Atreus will have his own game and have a theory that it may be called "God of Mischief" or "Champion of The Jötnar" And I always thought that Mjölnir was gonna be Atreus' weapon so even though this is the last God of War game in the Norse pantheon does not mean it is the end of Atreus' story in the Norse pantheon therefore Thor may return there.

Been waiting for kaptain's first GOWR theory video for so long, and it was worth it. But I disagree with the dematerializing theory, bcs for one Thor was different from the other Norse Gods as in he was part Aseir and part Jotn (ik Magni and Modi were quarter Jotn but that is what I feel). Secondly, it might just be a creative decision, as it was both impactful and still let's the focus remain on the main villain, as so many Greek Gods got dematerialized yet none reached the higher plane of existence. Lastly and this is a personal idea from a practical perspective, I don't think Thor was 'wise' enough to be a Mufasa-esq being, and might look better like serving the higher plane instead of calling the shots and hence not be a part of the group of 'Gods' in the "higher plane of existence".

Its been a little while since I completed the game but I was thinking after speaking to a friend about the game: Did the Aesir know that Heimdall was planning to kill Atreus? If so, is this why Thor was training Atreus to clear his mind and not think? Because Heimdall could read minds, and by clearing his mind, Atreus could best him with his combat experience since Heimdall couldn’t read his moves?
