There are 2 more possibilities 1. He didn't die and just teleported away to save himself. Its kinda hinted that he can teleport when he does a Batman and suprises Odin by appearing behind him in the scene before the Muspelheim mission. 2. The devs didn't want his body hanging around during the boss fight.

9:25 you do not watch long enough. If you keep watching and look at the Hammer when Odin grabs it, those blue flakes are still around. I believe Giant magic put him in the Hammer. Remember how Thor puts mead on Mjölnir in the beginning of the game ? I think it is an extension of the Thunder God My theory is he actually went into Mjölnir when he died. The games have a theme of spirits being in weapons. We see his body diminish like Fenrirs unlike Baldur,Magni and Heimdell. We see many clues of the weapon “being alive” and Thrud also says “I’ll make you proud dad” before taking the hammer and flying off. 7:39 Still, to this day, this scene is that well made that I can't figure it out what Athena truly meant by "Forgive me .. brother." On one hand, she may be referring to Kratos as "brother", so she showed empathy for Kratos' misery. On the other hand, that "brother" could mean Ares, so she is truly sorry for the fact that she stopped Ares from killing Kratos on the day Deimos was kidnapped. Also she may be sorry for aiding Kratos in killing Ares, because it seems Kratos is worse than Ares. The first time I heard this line, Ares came to my mind. For me, the "brother" being Ares just made much more sense in that context.
@HitmanHimself2 жыл бұрын
Nice Thought, I always thought she was referring to kratos as brother and showing empathy for him. That brother could be for ares aswell but I also doubt she had any love for ares, tho Athena never hated Ares or wanted him dead(Until Ares attacked Athens in GoW1) but Ares always tried to defame her sister and didn't like her as Athena was Zeus' favourite child. But when ares became a nuisance to olympus and attacked her city, she tasked kratos to get rid of Ares. So I don't know who she was referring to.. can be either, i incline more on kratos just because the devs might be using that dialogue to indicate that Athena is Kratos' sister.. Now that u have thought about it being ares, even if game devs didn't intend it to ares initially they might change it and tell that in an interview lol, not eve kidding 😂
@alexcogames6362 жыл бұрын
@@HitmanHimself I don't think Athena has any love for Ares too, she is "sorry" like "what Have I done? what have I made? A monster even worse than Ares was." Thanks for the shoutout Kuba! I do want to address the topic of whether or not you consider Thor's sacrifice a "selfless sacrifice" - here's an answer you can get behind: "Its a fair argument to say it wasn't really a sacrifice. It wasn't as straightforward as Athena's. But after his fight with Kratos, Kratos tells him, we must be better, for the sake of our children. In the end when he stands up against Odin, his change of heart, he died for Thrud & Sif, to be better, for the sake of his children. Remember what Brok said, it's not the "form" of a thing that matters, but the "nature" of a thing. His form was that of a Destroyer, but his nature, a man seeking forgiveness. (Its not the outside that matters, but whats on the inside) I think in the end, he changed his nature and it wasn't for him, but for his family. That's just the way I saw it anyways. The way he died and what happens to him was convincing enough for me."

I have to add that Athena was pretty much the same kind of a-hole were at the end of GoW3 as the Olympians were throughout the game. She wanted the power of hope to rule of mortals and seemingly rebuild Greece to her desires. Athena is written as being just like Zeus, and she's just physically ascended. That's a departure for her GoW1 and 2 depictions, but it's still similar to her GoW 2018 depiction. If one is ascended to this Higher Plain of Existence, it doesn't seem to make you a better person. So, you probably don't need to be a good person to get there.

The particle effect used on Thor's death is the same we saw when Kratos and Atreus spread Faye's ashes, and at the end of the dream Kratos has when he is on a boat with Faye and baby Atreus. Kuba, do you think sindri will be able to forgive kratos and atreus? Will he be the vehicle by which the Norse saga ends, maybe involving something from the spark of the world? Sindri is incredibly talented and rightfully pissed at us for the death of brok. It makes me think he might be able to send us away for good and, in his eyes, get revenge. This could also work narratively if he separates us from atreus by making vengeance the reason for us 'losing' another child. It could be a way to force kratos into thinking about a bigger picture and thus lead into the higher plane of existence potentially. It could even force him to lash out again and bring back some of that old kratos rage in order to try and get back to midgard.

I think Thor disintegrated as a result of Gungnir being a bifrost based weapon, getting bifrost on you in combat can potentially cause a large chunk of your health to be destroyed, and we never see the effects of bifrost in any other cutscene, so it may be that it’s supposed to dematerialize things, but they nerfed it in combat sections so the player wouldn’t just be killed in one hit by it.

I think when we found the last mural in 2018, it WAS depicting kratos dying in Loki’s arms, but after Kratos changed his fate by opening his heart, the prophecy was changed for Thor to die neard Thrud
@litningblack59172 жыл бұрын
Never thought of that more like fate changed since the whole point is prophecy isn’t the real thing which also makes u think that mural at the end If that was there the whole time doesn’t that mean that the mural that shows kratos dying was bs from the start So making the first mural incorrect from the start

I think santa monica doesn't care about the higher plane of existenz anymore. They changed their storytelling to a more simple upfront maybe fairytale like narrative. But I understand you wish to learn more about this

Maybe the spear has a spell on it to make him dissolve? Because freya, when teleport back to midguard, has the same type of spell look to it. Just looks like the same to me. Love your videos man!!

Remember when Athena came back she totally changed her perspectives on life, at first she says that Zues must live so Olympus will prevail but then tells Kratos that Zues must die and essentially that Olympus must crumble. Well what if Thor's ideas change and he wants to make the giants come back so they can once again thrive. would be a cool start to a game for Atrues since he is looking for the giants and the two of them have been acquaintances before. just my idea

I love how Odin kills Thor with no hesitation. Just straights up stabs him after he says no.

I think one detail missed here is Odin's spear. I don't really remember it being mentioned in game but his spear is already famous; Gungnir. for the most part, virtually any other damage to a god will heal, Gungnir is specifically designed to give immortals mortal wounds it doesn't matter who

The higher color of Athena reminded me of the rift that Odin was obsessed with.

When kratos look at the final mural where he is worship you can see it's the same mural where atreus cry to his death by the hand of thor. That mural his however painted over, you can see atreus but kratos death his painted over, everything is painted over exept thor. Could this tease that thor will have a positive role in kratos bean worship?

Defying your own nature for the greater good seems like a more worthy requirement to me. Something a rare few were capable of.

About to watch this video. My hope is that they bring Thor back for the Loki game. Have him face all the destruction and pain he caused the Giants, while trying to save them with Loki. I know it won't happen. But it would be amazing.

To me the criteria to be worthy enough for the higher realm of existence is seems less about sacrificing oneself and mostly has to do with the choice of "being better" one of the most prominent themes of the norse saga

What about Freyr tho? He legit give his life for everyone to escape, If he comes back in the same form Athena did then the sacrifice requirement would have to be one of the reason why a god ascends to the higher plane
@KaptainKuba2 жыл бұрын
He totally could, but Thor is more fun to talk about 😅

A thought occurred to me whilst watching this video; what if the qualifying factor to get into the higher plane of existence has nothing to do with what you do but who you choose to be? The Norns told Kratos and Freya they were so easily predictable, which made the Norns appear to have powers of foresight, because they too set in their way to make different choices. Athena made the choice to sacrifice herself. To not be a proud and selfish God, and instead be a selfless and caring daughter. Thor made the choice to disobey Odin. To not be the obedient son, and instead be the good father. Kratos made the choice not to kill Thor. To not be the callous ruthless killer he was made to be, and instead show mercy, empathize with his enemy, and hope for a better outcome. Kratos’ own dialogue seemingly supports the idea of character growth being the driving force of the story. “We will be the gods we choose to be.” “Do not be sorry. Be better.” “We must be better than this.” “We must be better. For the sake of our children.” My point is reinforced even more now that the Valhalla DLC is out. It’s one massive therapy session for Kratos, demonstrating monumental character growth to the point he’s willing to accept his old title as God of War because he’s now redefined what that means. It’s about personal growth. Choosing to grow is what gets you into the higher plane, even if that means your immediate death.

Another thing to consider is that Thor is half giant, so perhaps when giants die they dematerialize, It would explain the Golden-colored ashes of Fey.
