When Odin said, “You have a debt” I assumed it was going to be a John Wick 2 situation in which Odin uses Kratos’ abilities to do various labors or kill Gods for him. Also because of the fact that he told Thor, “You’re no fun anymore” insinuating that he wanted to use Kratos. Looking back though this wouldn’t have been a good idea

Sounds much more interesting! as much as I like Ragnarok, I really wished Cory was still at the helm and the norse saga was a trilogy. Theres so much setups in gow 2018 that are left unfulfilled, it's obvious some plot lines were scrapped to accommodate the duology.

@jayhoes628
@jayhoes628 Жыл бұрын
@@alianetwork6190 I mean, It's tradition for kratos to die and walk out of hell lol. I understand not wanting to overuse that kratos trope but in the norse realm, it makes sense. Knowing the dead enter either Valhalla (which is in Asgard) or helheim could make for an interesting plot. I seem to recall too in the 2018 game, Atreus is surprised that Magni didn't come back to life and Mimir spouts something about that being interesting since the Aesir find their own way to Valhalla. That probably means casual resurrection among gods is a thing here.

@HandsomeWaver
@HandsomeWaver Жыл бұрын
@@alissoncandatem1896well, it did have an effect on Thor. While you’re in Asgard as Atreus, you hear some Aesir speak of Forseti, and how he believes someone is trying to poison Thor. They casually laugh about it because what such fool would dare to poison Thor? Anyway, thanks to the poison, the wound never healed, possibly leaving Thor in a weakened state. I believe it did weaken him as when Odin thrusts his spear into Thor, it kills him, yet he plunged his spear in Thor’s scapula (closer to the heart, but not directly in the heart). And seeing how Kratos stabbed him multiple times with the blades of chaos right before his encounter with Odin, it may have fatigued him greatly to where he could no longer keep up.

When Zues appeared in Helheim and Mimir said to never go there, I was really hoping Kratos would go there in Ragnarok. I actually thought Santa Monica would have brought the whole 17 year arc full circle and somehow Kratos would resurrect Zues and Zues ends up figthing Odin at Ragnarok.

Do you think that Thor was suppose to be the champion of the Jotnar? When Odin killed Ymir, the rift appeared and told the Allfather secrets. When he journeyed across the nine realms, Odin found the mask and believe that since the rift appeared after Ymir's death, only a giant could use the mask to learn more. So he created the champion of the Jotnar. Like Ares with Orkos, Odin wanted a child he could raise who not only had the powers of the Aesir but the Jotuns too. I believe the reason Odin wanted Skadi to "bear him strong sons" was for this reason. As we know, Odin had Thor by HIodyn but despite his efforts, the god of thunder wasn't much of a scholar. Its properly why Odin treated him so badly. So feeling like a disappointment to his father, Thor unleashed Mjolnir on the midgard giants. Cursing his heritage. I believe that Lefey (Loki's Mum) was one of the last of the midgard giants, witnessing Thor's rampage. She sought revenge. Meeting the giants of Jotunheim, Starting the rebellion with the dwarves, getting the leviathan axe and fighting Thor in Vanaheim. After failing, she learns about her son's fate from the giants and tries to defy it. Of course, just a theory.

I really wish this game took more risks especially in the story department. Kratos trying to escape Asgard/Valhalla/Hel sounds awesome. A 20 year time skip sounds cool but Ragnarok had to happen soon after Fimbulwinter so that couldn't work. Odin could have messed with Kratos' mind to try to flip him back to what he once was (let his rage consume him which in turn killing most Norse gods...make his son resent him..use him as Loki.. SOMETHING with consequences). It's difficult to think back on this game because there are so many missed opportunities imo while 2018's GoW was perfectly crafted for future payoffs in the sequel. Still enjoyed the game and will always be super grateful we even got a Kratos vs. Thor fight!

Kratos death/time jump would've been cool... redundant if you're trying to show growth in the series. Odin having the ability to adapt is what made him a great villain. Kratos was key to ragnarok, he kills Baldur. Atreus is what Odin didn't initially factor when he saw the mural. Once he realizes Atreus role, he steps in to manipulate things. Almost worked

I'd say the reason that we didn't get this version of the story is because everyone was making theory videos about Thor killing Kratos. They got cold feet, played it too safe and as a result got a game that was less impactful. Almost all of the plot points GOW 2018 set up were thrown out of the window due to Kratos fan boys saying they will riot if he were to die. This happens far too often when creators choose to pacify their fanbases rather than taking creative risks. The game was good, but it wasn't amazing.

I truly enjoyed God of War Ragnarok! However by the end of the game I was left feeling a little empty. Like when you leave the house and you know you forgot or left something important lol. To be fair I already accepted the fact that one of the most interesting and entertaining characters (Loki) in the Norse mythology was given to Atreus. Ultimately it felt like 2 separate people fighting for the spotlight. Now imagine a game where Loki was not Atreus or Atreus wasn’t Loki. I would have loved to see Loki causing mischief and being far more clever than Odin. Lastly I would have loved to see more of Laufey. Obviously she’s dead however seeing her telling stories to Atreus as a child not heard yet. Or even flashbacks of her interactions prior to dying. Just more visits to Kratos in his dreams. Overall the feeling of still having questions and this being the close to the Norse chapter is unsettling. I apologize for the lengthy comment. Keep up the awesome content brother! Great job every time

I was really hoping for some Greek stuff. Like an explanation of Athena's spirit state and her appearance in GOW 2018. Maybe a side quest ft some Greek gods. Like apollo and artemis make their way to the norse realm yo take revenge on Kratos. And the whole previous family thing. Does Atreus even know about Lysandra and Calliope?

I was really disappointed about the story, it really had multiple interesting build ups which went to nothing. I wanted a more visceral Odin, Thor to be more present and more important to the story. These 2 combined do not make half of what Baldur did as a villain in 2018. Played the game twice and the 2nd time consolidated my view about the game even more. 7.5/10 in my book. Don't know if it was the expectations 2018 built but the entire game was really underwhelming where 2018 is a masterpiece of story telling, acting, gameplay, villain, everything is pitch perfect, game of the decade for me.

I was very happy with the story. I do wish that we got more screen time with Thor and Odin. And other gods that aren’t mentioned like vidar or hodr. There’s even a god of dreams in Norse myth. They could have rectified their mistake of having Kratos not fight Morpheus from Greece and had him fight njorun or valravn. It could have been epic to see the reality bending powers almost as if Kratos were on drugs facing a being like that. Heimdall was great but let’s face it.. there’s way cooler gods they could have chosen from Norse myth. I also wish we would have seen odins true strength. He is Thors father.. can’t necessarily say all of Thors brute strength is thanks to jörd. Odin is a very powerful god. Which other platforms like marvel has displayed. His emotions affect the way reality works. Once out of pure rage he turned rain and snow storms into fire. Other then these nit picks.. I’m very happy with the story we got.

I really loved the game and the writing was excellent, but I definitely got the sense that there were parts that were either shortened or rushed. During the big battle towards the end of the game, we approach the Svartalfheim tower expecting a Dwarven army, or at leash a unit. Instead we just get a pissed off Sindri who took it upon himself to exclude any other dwarves from fighting in the battle. He proceeds to precisely find the wall’s weakness which I thought only Surtr knew. I do wish the overall tone would’ve been a bit darker too. I really did love the game though. Kratos’s development is a spectacle. Got the platinum over weekend.

This is what’s predicted in the final mural. Kratos dies in the first fight with Thor, Atreus whispers his soul, Atreus Willingly or by force joins Odin for a while. I think people were more interesting in the tyr storyline and they couldn’t fit it all in one game.

I personally would've liked a way darker tone for Ragnarok's story than what we got. I didn't hate the story we got, but I didn't love it all that much either, I felt it was mediocre, the combat and the boss fights was what really saved this game for me, if not for those this game would've just been extremely meh for me. Of course I have nothing against people who loved or hated this story, this is just my personal feelings on it. My biggest problem with Ragnarok's story was simply that the event of Ragnarok itself was underwhelming. It was set up in 2018 to be much like it was in actual Norse myth: the death and rebirth of all the Nine Realms, so naturally that's what I expected to get in this game, but we did not get that. Instead, Groa simply lied and Ragnarok is just a fusion of Surtr and Sinmara that brings about the end of Asgard, while the other realms thrive. For me, this was the most boring and safe route to take when it comes to adapting Ragnarok. It also doesn't help that for the majority of the story, Ragnarok feels more like an afterthought instead of this giant looming threat that's on the horizon, due to the incredibly slow pacing and the constant switching between Kratos and Atreus. And then when it came to the big climax of the game, even this miniature version of Ragnarok felt underwhelming as well, while the final boss with Thor and then Odin was nice, everything else just felt off. Jormungander and Thor's big fight that was teased in 2018 simply happens in the background, Surtr as well is mostly just in the background before the very end where he plunges his sword into Asgard. I mean just imagine how much cooler it would've been to fight Thor on top of Jormungandr, with Jormungandr providing assistance occasionally, or fighting Odin together with Surtr and so on. The big spectacle aspect of the God of War games was just missing in the big finale of Ragnarok, which is baffling considering they already managed to pull off big spectacle fights in the Norse games with Nidhogg, Garm and even the first dragon fight in 2018.

Completey agree. Nothing here but emotional scenes to try and make you cry. The gameplay itself made me feel weak. As weak as kratos felt in 2018 gameplay wise, he was still alot stronger. Things like the the executioners cleave or the fact you could create shockwaves with your puches or by smashing your shield into the ground added to that power fantasy but in Erics game all that took a back seat to combo cancels and faster movement. Thor definitely should've had a more grandiose boss fight the second time around but kratos barely broke a sweat and the small hut in the background still standing.

Yup...I've been saying this but the original story did not take any risk and they played it toooo safe and at times felt like a marvel movie (with the light tone especially near the middle and end)with no consequence. At no point did I feel kratos was in danger and that's sad. He doesnt have to die in the beginning to make it better but at least some type of actual threat because the gods honestly still felt like child's play for him. Barely touched the game after I finished and when I did it was for combat but sometimes I played the 2018 instead because it's better in combat in many other ways and a sequel shouldn't feel like that.

Kratos wouldn't have gone to Valhalla. In Norse myth, Odin and /or Freya choose who goes to Valhalla. It's not an automatic thing that happens. It makes more sense for Odin to make sure Kratos is trapped in Hel and out of the way.

The reason Kratos would have gone to Helheim rather than Valhalla after fighting Thor is because to get into Valhalla Odin must send a Valkyrie to retrieve the soul of the fallen warrior deemed worthy and lead them to Asgard which is where Valhalla is located so Odin would have rejected Kratos' soul damning him to Helheim

GoW Ragnarok was okay, but could have been so much better if it were broken up into 2 more games. The beginning was new and exciting, but quickly falls off towards the mid-point. Just not enough substance and things felt rushed. Especially towards the very end of the game. I also really didn't like how they handled Tyr. Sure, it was interesting at first and a twist, but it just didn't make much sense and felt very underwhelming shortly after the "awe factor" wore off. It also didn't do justice to the actual Tyr. Overall: Great game in itself, but a poor game by Santa Monica standards. Could have been so much more and so much better.
