As someone qualified in Ancient History, I've never actually touched any of the stonework (floors apart, obviously), except for academic reasons. I once brushed past a wall in Ephesus and even now still feel guilty...

Rick Steves is my travel guru! For Dubrovnik, he recommended viewing the crowds as a modern version of what the city used to be like. Several hundred years ago, they were selling fish, and now they're selling souvenirs. But they're still selling and buying and trading. It made the crowds much more bearable. :)

My husband and I had the same experience at Ephesus. Ephesus was a port of call on our cruise. We opted for a private tour that picked us up at 7:30am (cheaper than you would think to get a private tour as opposed to booking through the cruise line and being on a huge group tour). We were at the archeological site by 8:00 and it was just us, our guide and ALL THE CATS until about 9am! Such an amazing place!!!!

Good Morning.....5:20AM, Another 12 minutes and 48 seconds to start my day before getting ready for the kidlets. Well, hormone raging high-schoolers that is. But good teenagers, all the same, that are taking a college level course so I gotta keep up my game....But there is always time to relax and watch K&N. Thanks Guys.... 5:40AM, Just finished watching the video. We covered social inequities in the ancient world (Rome and Greece, and others) last week. I am SO going to share this video with my students. The architecture will supplement my lessons perfectly. Thank you so much for doing the early rising thing. It makes using these for my class much better. Again fellow Nashville native here...

Yeah, they had nice pots, lol. I'm not convinced that Kara was actually impressed by the toilet situation. So many funny moments in this one. Fascinating history, didn't realize it was the second most important Roman city and that it had previously been Greek. By the way I'm right nearby, currently on Samos island in Greece and you can see Turkey from here. Very tempting to go there!

Ephesus is my favorite Roman ruins ever. I would love to go back. These pesky military travel restrictions are really crimping my travel style. Also - my husband and I just got back from the Faroes and driving around the ring road in Iceland. Our last day, we went snorkeling in Silfra. Did the first group to beat the line (waking up early!), and it was the most fantastic way to end the trip - so thanks for making a vlog about it! Never would have done it otherwise.

This is one of my absolute favorite ruins. Besides being stunningly beautiful, the historical value is unreal! BOOKS! You never really think of _where_ the first book was made; we just use them and take them for granted. I loved getting to see that place, unspoiled by the throngs of tourists. Thank you for sacrificing your sleep, morning coffee, and breakfast for us. ❤

Did you know that the library also had a secret passageway so the scholars could go in seclusion to the brothel?
