Cruising to COLOMBIA! Coffee in Cartagena & Street Food in Santa Marta

Colombia will always have a special place in my heart. As the child of a US diplomat, I spent 3.5 years in Bogota, started school there, and learned the second of the 5 languages I speak today. One of the best things about international cruises is that you get a taste of places, which helps you decide if you want to return to explore more in depth. When you said you had 40 minutes left to get back to the ship but you were going to stop for another food item, my heart leapt. There are countless videos about people getting left at ports because they didn't make it back in time!

Watching this series has been bitter sweet. My husband and I had paid to do a Panama Cruise for our 25th anniversary. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma three years before the trip. We thought we could still do it, with his dr’s ok, but the cancer got worse before we could go. We celebrated in the hospital, two months later, he died. Enjoy this time together, do as much traveling and enjoying Life, while you can.

Today it’s a little different. Yes, they will leave you if you are late. But, there is always a but, on the port paperwork they give you onboard the ship prior to disembarking for the day or if you download it on your phone they give you a contact number if you have any problems and to contact ship if you have an accident, you were robbed or sickness, etc. The number they give you is a life line that most people don’t even realize that cruise ships and lines have this service. It a life line.

I’ve seen people running down the dock when the boat was leaving, the boat did not turn back. But the port boat took them to the cruise boat. I’m sure at a cost.

I'm from Canada and I went in Colombia last summer, that is in amazing country, I visited Bogota (the capital of the country), Medellin is really nice and I liked so much Santa Marta, I went in the Tayrona National Park and Minca in the Sierra Nevada, I had a good time in that country

FINALLY!!! Finally someone on this platform vlogs about pandebono and pan de yuca. I enjoyed so much your video, and I hope you come back to Colombia, and if you are going to, you have to come to Santiago de Cali (our 3rd biggest city but sadly it's very underrated by foreign tourist), but you have to come between the 25th and 31th of december (Feria de Cali, biggest "festival" of the city). If you like coffee, you should also visit coffee's axis (Eje cafetero) which is a triplet of cities (Armenia, Pereira and Manizales) responsible for the colombian coffee tradition (The Feria de Manizales is immediately after the Feria de Cali *wink*). Btw, don't let locals scare you with crazy stories, you do you and have fun. Just don't do anything or go into some places that you wouldn't do/go into in your home town. PS: That chef is truly a legend among us. Is kind of our own Gordon Ramsey

Santa Marta is such a beautiful city. It was the grad trip location for my tourism program back in 1994. It's definitely changed over the years since I was there, and I have always wanted to return so I could visit more of the country like Cartagena. My whole love affair with coffee was born in Colombia.

The memories I have of Cartagena are the traffic and few stop lights or even stop signs so glad we were on a bus! The old town is spectacular and so is the fort. I enjoyed the shopping and got coffee. We had a walking tour in the old town. The newer city is also very beautiful with the high rise apartments.

I've been watching your videos for awhile now and I've got my husband into it too! We are both well traveled and have been together almost five years but have never flown together (WHAT??)!! One thing we know we agree on is that we are the type of people who arrive to our flight's gate at least an hour early!! haha.
