Oh my god. Watching Kara explain the hands on the wall, hit me out of no where, I felt like the wind was knocked out of me. KZbin suggested this video, I assume because of the war going on currently & getting to see Ukraine through Kara & Nate’s eyes, before this current chaos & devastation is so special. It really showcases how amazing this place is, and the pride they have in being Ukrainian & how kind & generous they are to people visiting there. The restaurants & bars are so hip & cool looking!!! It’s devastating to know that so much what’s in this video has been devastated. I hope to be able to visit new, hip, and THE VERY VERY PROUD streets of Ukraine in the future, please know you have so many people thinking of the people there now & know you do not deserve any of this!!

The password for the restaurant you visited in the end is actually a quote from the poem “Kavkaz” (Caucasus) written by Taras Shevchenko (Kobzar), who have actually founded modern Ukrainian literature)) He was a great person, a fighter for our independence, an artist, poet, writer, painter and illustrator as well as folklorist and ethnographer. My family is Jewish and I never knew the history of many of the traditional dishes we make on holidays as they don't come from a specific country. Watching your videos has helped me to learn about how the food from all these different countries influenced the food my family eats now! Specifically here the fact that we put sour cream on everything- blintzes, latkes, kreplach, etc! I love watching your food tours! ALSO, they sell chicken Kiev in the frozen section at most super markets here in America! I know you all are in your van right now traveling the West coast, so if you ever miss Ukrainian food you can still find it here. Plus many stores will have it in multiple flavors, not just butter!

We eat sour cream as an alternative to heavy cream and whipping cream, it could be served both with sweet and savory dishes.

Agree. I like that the world is mostly united, but I wish they would do more to be more active to help Ukraine since they are still mostly by themselves in this. Sad.

Borsch has never been associated with Russia! Do not distort information! Borsch is a national Ukrainian dish from the 17th century! Borsch came to Russia only in the middle of the 20th century. In Russia there is a national dish (soup) called Shchi. This is an old Tatar Asian dish, as Russia is the heiress of the Golden Horde (wild bloodthirsty Asia). Vodka is a Polish invention and name! In Ukraine, strong alcohol is called a Horylka (gorilka) , (from the word flame, burn), or pertchivka (pepper alcohol), nastoyanka (tincture), samogonka (moonshine). Ukraine is not Russia (not Asia, not Tatars, not Mordovian lands). Ukraine is a Slavic country (not Asian), it is Eastern Europe! Ukraine is an old Ruthenian state, it is the ancient center of the Kingdom of Ruthenia (Ruthenia, Rusin - it is also Kyivian Rus), founded in the 1st century AD, on Kyiv lands. In addition to the popular varenyiki and borscht, you forgot to try such old traditional, our national Ukrainian dishes, such as banosh, bograch, kulish , galushki, rokot crumply (rumble crumple - a potato dish popular in western Ukraine) , Uzvar , Hutsul bryindza (a special kind of cheese), salo - (bacon, lard , - in all varieties), crowyanka (sausage made from blood, with spices, lard and cereal).

Russia isn't Tatar either. They are mainly Slavic mixed with Finno-Ugric, but then again even the Rurikids (whom Ukraine views as their direct predecessors, Ukraine's coat of arms is related to that of the Rurikids) have Y-DNA haplogroup N1c1d-L550 which is closely associated with Finno-Ugric / Uralic speaking peoples.

I'm an American and my mom is Ukrainian. My favorite Ukrainian food is Perogie, i love the dough, chopped garlic and the meat but and it's put in a boiling pot of water it makes the dumpling juices good when it's done. Also i love Varenyky is so good that potato and ravioli shaped dough is so good! I love my mom's Ukrainian/Russian dishes. There so good! Also privet Kara and Nate!.
