I loved staying in Leadville, a decade ago I was there for 2 weeks working out in a gym, swimming laps in a pool and running segments of the Leadville 100 and although it was over 10,000 ft as a base I felt totally exhilarated. I was living in Albuquerque at the time which is around 6,000 ft so I was somewhat acclimatized and I am sure this helped. It was one of those peak periods in your life when you feel totally in flow. I remember like it was yesterday doing a 10 mile run where I had to take off my shoes and wade through waist high streams and running up to above treeline just as a thunderstorm rolled in and scared the crap out of me. Ha ha, now that was exhilarating!

Quick disclaimer! Alma Colorado is 200 feet higher than Leadville at 10,361' (as opposed to Leadville's 10,151'), although Leadville is much more widely known and visited than Alma. Also, the pine gulch fire is currently the 2nd largest in Colorado history although it moved up since you recorded your video! As well as Leadville hosting the Leadville one hundred, they also host plenty of other fun sporting events! Last year the snowshoe national chamionships were held at the Colorado Mountain College, and telling you from experience, that was HARD. Also, fun fact, fewer than half of the participants in the one hundred mile race finish (my father was unfortunately in the half that didn't, odn't worry, we laugh about it now).

When exploring the back country trails in Colorado, you will occasionally come across very old trailside campsites, (sometimes near old structures, mine shafts ect) with old firepits used for many years back to the "wild west" mining days. Among some of the scattered old litter will be remains of old rusted cans with lead tops (that dont rust) from a time long begone. They used lots of lead in canning back then. ....and still used small amounts till 1991 in the US. Yep, miners and cowboys of the day had canned goods. Obviously today, lead was not a good health choice for sealing.
