Today we reunited with 2 of our favorite people who you may remember from our Portugal or Iceland series - Kayla and Barrett (thanks again guys for letting us crash your vacation!). We spent the day fighting jet lag and exploring Venice for the first time! We had low expectations for this super "touristy" city, but we were pleasantly surprised.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this KZbin channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Why am is sobbing so hard during this video. Probably because Venice is my FAVORITE city. We travel there in December. It was amazing being there during the off season it was like having the whole city to our selves. I love the food culture and getting lost in the maze of the city. I hope to make it back soon.

Glad you had a good time! Venice is indeed a surprisingly fantastic place, not nearly as mainstream as one could imagine, and despite some spots being crowded at all times, there are always tiny hidden streets that you can have all to yourself

The italian word "ciao" (Hello/Hi), probably our most famous one, was born in Venice. It means literally "slave" or I'm your slave (Sclavus, Slave, Schiavo, Ciavo, Ciao).

There's a really good gelato place on the way to Piazza San Marco if you're walking there from the bridge near Gallerie dell'Accademia. I don't remember the name of the place but it was the best chocolate gelato I've ever had. It's on one of the small winding alleyway streets right before you get to the fashion section of the city.

Nice..last Summer I had the same vacation. Venice (Venezia) and the Dolomite, I dolomiti. Lago carezza is nice. My in laws live at canazei. Also If you can, visit Verona, which is 1.5 hours train ride from Venice, beautiful city.. even better if you drive there from the Dolomiti and on your way to the that city you can stop by Lago di Garda., I recommend Garda and desenzano as towns to visit around the lake. Eat at an agroturismo, you won't regret it. If you do end up visiting Verona, the city of Romeo & Juliette, visit Castel vecchio which is in the heart of the old city..By the way, I've discovered your vlog about a month ago and I'm loving watching your vlogs from the start. Too bad, you didn't go outside Beirut, as a Lebanese, I would have recommended more authentic places to see like Tripoli and a must see place like Baalbeck, not to mention, one of the oldest cities in the world, Byblos. Sorry for the long comment :)

I went to Venice when I was young and remember St Marco square with way more pigeons and the water had so much garbage floating around. I guess they are cleaning up everything for more tourist. Brings back so many memories! Thank you for a beautiful video, until next tine!

it’s not so tourist-y if you look in the right places! Instead of a tourist gondola ride, I took a local gondola ride to get across the city for 1 euro. found it by taking a bunch of side streets. The one extremely touristy thing I did was go to Murano to see the glass. I ended up picking seaglass at the little rocky beach there bc our boat was late!

First came to Venice in 1971.. in college shooting freelance photojournalism assignments.. fell in love with new friends. The Doll Lady of Venice. The older woman who owned a villa on one if the many side streets and invited people she believed used to be friends in a previous life. I was one if those. We’d gather for cafe..for wine..drinks.. meals.. we’d walk together, the women holding our arms.. very old world style. I found as usual me fall in Love with a woman twice my age.. an Italian Lady with a title. Dressed in airy dresses, flowing dresses.. language bidding my love and devotion to never die. One Italian restaurant so small the waiter had to go outside to hand in dishes through the open window. Wine from their own vineyards.. amazing. Remembering our stories of past lives was amazing. I was an elderly priest who was in Love with a grand countess.. she for me. People here came back together yearly. I became long friends with an Art Gallery owner from NC here. She was from New England but bought a place in Greensboro, NC. Patron of the arts.. she ran a photo showing of a few of us years later. The others looked down on me for being a well known Photojournalist.. but the only one to find SOld on all my works open day. They sold nada. Loved it. This is all years old now, Most all but faded memories. I returned to see the Palazzo this past year. Enjoy your time in Venice.. you were meant to visit and be entranced.

I am not surprised you decided to move on... it is awfully crowded... BUT anyone going I just want to recommend and AFTER hours tour of St. Mark's. It was outstanding! We even got to go down to the crypt! Only about 4 groups of 12-15 in there spread out in the church. We thought it was really worth the money.

first of all italy is too overrated, venice specially bc its only a plain old canal with few cool buildings and not much to do, more for old people or fam with kids. nothing different than any other western european city, no exotic scenic views. thank goodness your next videos are into the mountains atlest something beautiful coming up. i love your videos of himalayas, islands in asia, peru, amazon rain forest, iceland, canada, middle east like dead sea. do more visit to places less visited by tourist but holds so much beauty, places in africa and south america.

Hey guys, did you know that eating like that is totally illegal in Venice?! There's a specific law because of the massive amount of tourists in town all year long, so that you're supposed to eat in a restaurant or walking. Well I live in Las Vegas, so right now the closest I have been to the gondolas is the Venetian hotel, but Venice is on our bucket list🙂. Egypt next year, than maybe other parts of Italy we haven’t been....like Venice😀

My wife and I were there a few months ago, and after seeing the price tag on the gondola, we decided to just enjoy the city by foot. 150 euro for an hour long boat ride is a little steep

@Luis Aya actually, they were quoting different prices for different rides. More if you wanted the man to sing and have the boat to yourself - less if you shared the boat and the guy didn't sing. Maybe they weren't following the law. Also, we thoroughly enjoyed the city without the gondola ride - maybe we will do it next time. Definitely not our last time there

​@@bobbygreene7748 I'm Italian, living not far away (Verona). That tour is definitely a steep! I've never done it. I don't think the gondoliers were acting outside the law, but it's a tourist attraction, there's no way out. It looks even more expensive because it's everyone's dream! I took a ride on my venetian friend's ship (basically the venetians' hatchback), just 3 years ago (almost 30 years after the very first time I visited), and.... I realised something I hadn't realised before: that view, that view! has always been the real view of Venice, since centuries. In the golden hour it moves you. And it's so obvious: the city take the right height, the one in the eyes of the venetian architects! I suggest: If you don't mind about a singer, choose to listen to the silence. I'd rather ;)
