This video is in response to numerous questions regarding the 12 Strikes of the Karambit video I placed on my channel. This response is specifically made for Steve who had interesting questions to the original video.

First karambit training video that isn't about finishing your opponent with lethal blow. You earned my sub!

Hello ShadzWins. Thank you for the comment! I do agree with you. My goal is to go home and survive. I don't want to deliver a lethal blow in any way shape or form. All I want to is stop the threat. The threat of the opponent is not necessarily the person, but what the person holds and what he uses to hold it. If I eliminate that, the threat stops which gives me the opportunity to escape. I don't want to explain myself in court for killing someone in self-defense for that alone maybe my downfall. Thank you again for the comment. Take care and be safe!

Thank you ShadzWins! This truly means a lot to me. Ultimately I do not want to answer for my actions in court especially with the skill I have based upon hours of training and practice. In reality, I just want to stop the attack and escape. If I can do that effectively and efficiently, there is no need for a lethal blow. Thank you again and be careful and be safe!

***** Thank you for your comment. I totally agree with you 100%. I teach my student's it's better to know it (the skill) and not use it then use it and not know it. Also it's better to have it (the blade) and not need it than need it and not have it. Be safe 24/7/365 my friend.

I really love how you make more reasonable strikes instead of injuring the crap out of someone to death in a situation. I have seen one video with the karambit that involves destroying the face which i believe is not appropriate if you have to explain yourself in the court of law.
@evadetheblade5510 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment. I agree with the videos you have seen. I have no problems with the skills of others. As long as they know that they have articulate the reason they did what they did. Some courts will think that some defensive moves with a blade can be considered excessive force. I like to keep it simle. Destroy the hand that attacks me ..so it can't attack me when I escape... thank you again. Take care 24/7/365.

I appreciate ur goal sir is just to dis able the opponent. Yeah, I've seen the other instructors of karambit that they want to kill a person. I think, that's illegal or has just over reacting about the situation. I agree that the main goal is just for self defense and not to kill the other aggressor.

What a great video! Mahalo! Thank you so much [and Clayton!] for clarity & illumination. So practicing the 12 strikes I will visualize each strike fending of an incoming attackers blow, instead of a static target which was what I was doing before. The Fox Folder has that patented Emerson wave on it as well. I have the Fox fixed blade for now and I just got back from meeting a leather worker who is making me a friction sheath with a reverse grip draw for the fixed blade. Actually I ordered the Fox Folder as well but it hasn't arrived yet. The dealer, Lad, gets a few hundred Fox blades in all at once from Italy then ships them to fill all the orders. So order and wait, but oh well! Eventually it will arrive. In the meantime... more practice for me!
@filipinokalieducator462010 жыл бұрын
Hello HVS, Thank you again for the comment! Yes visualize and then apply. Use a heavy bag or a resistant target to apply speed and power to your strikes. Keep practicing my friend!

first of all why would you need a knife with someone who's unarmed??
@aerospike009 жыл бұрын
Excellent comment about the legality of using a karambit in a self-defense situation. You are right, you DO NOT want to be seen as the aggressor. No sense in you spending 5-10 years in prison because a jury wasn't bright enough to see your side of it.

I especially like that you don't immediately attack vital areas like the throat. It's always a good idea to consider your self defense actions as they pertain to a court of law. First, it would be hard to justify killing an unarmed assailant with a weapon, secondly, it would be equally difficult to justify killing an assailant whose arms/hands you've rendered useless using your weapon while he attacked. Lethal force is only justified when you are certain your life is in grave danger. If you've already nullified every one of his attacks, it's going to be hard to convince a judge and jury that your life was in grave danger and you HAD to cut his throat. Of course, if he is also armed the situation changes . . .

Good night, i am a martial arts student, tour tecnic whit the kerambit it is one of the Best i saw on video. My question is: How do you fight against another Blade, i asume it is not the same against another kerambit than another kind of knife like a k-bar, could you be so kind to show something like that. Thanks for your time, God bless you.
@evadetheblade55 Жыл бұрын
Hello Luis! Thank you for the question. It is the same against another blade attacker. However, it can be VERY different against another attacker who holds a Karambit. Movements are similar, but the strategy and tactics do change. God bless... be safe, be careful, and be ready.

excellent common sense! Too often people get caught up on the violent and not the consequences later on. Any weapon deployed when your opponent is empty handed, regardless that they are the aggressor, you'll appear as the aggressor in a court of law and not them. If u are train properly, weapon is only deployed when there is a life threatening situation only. You are quite right, to flee when the threat is neutralize. Excellent job, looking forward to see more from u.

Hello Guru... I enjoy the Karambit however I do not carry any weapons I feel with my skill if I were to use a weapon I would be the aggressor and that goes against my teachings. As I viewed in your video everything that you used the Karambit with you also could use empty hand limb destruction as I viewed in your gunting series. In my opinion using your skill you do not need a weapon. The problem comes with the skill level that you poses comes with many years of hard training that you can not buy from a store. I also teach weapons however the best weapon you have is yourself. Peace Love and fruit
@evadetheblade559 жыл бұрын
Great point master Timothy. I totally agree. The blade is not my first choice weapons. My brain and my hands are. However, as I mentioned it's the skilled attacker that we worry about. Defensive blade is what I emphasize which targets the tendons that hold the weapon. We call it tendon termination. I teach my students that there are three rules of the street. Rule one is that there is no rules. So to even the playing field, if the attacker has one, I should have to use defensively. .. great points master. Take care and be safe 24 / 7 / 365.
@TimothyArmstrongLoa-HuKungFu9 жыл бұрын
Yes you have to be ready for the skilled fighter. Tendon termination is an excellent path to get home. I agree. Peace Love and fruit to the 4 winds may scatter

Hello Giovanni. I hope you are doing well. Thank you for the comment. If there are certain skills you want to see, please let me know and I will be glad to film it for you. Take care and be safe 24 / 7 / 365 and always remember to keep your head on a swivel, watch your six, and keep your back against the wall.

SinaTirsiaWali Kali Thank you so much for your fast response. It would be great to watch more self-defense skills moving to the outside of the attacker as well as tendon terminations. One more thing: I see that you don't like to put the forefinger in the safety ring. I understand why. However, I wonder if you use that part of the blade for something, e.g. a lock.
@evadetheblade556 жыл бұрын
Hello Giovanni, thanks also for the quick response and another great question. I use the ring as vertical, diagonal, and horizontal "guntings" to the arms in addition to the tendon termination cuts. Depending on the situation and the position, the impact strike to the arms using the ring; especially the bone, can be enough to escape without making unnecessary cuts. I will be glad to do a video in the future with the karambit especially when moving to the outside which is always the preferred counter response and direction of the SinaTirsiaWali Kali practitioner always seeks. Take care and be safe 24 / 7 / 365 and always remember to keep your head on a swivel, watch your six, and keep your back against the wall.

Hello Sir, I have recently found your videos and appreciate your time, energy and approach. Gives me something to be able have a consistent practice and I also am weary of the finger hole. It is great you make the point about "court of law". I have a question if that is ok. With the folders (I do not have a good one) it seems there is a possible risk of it somehow closing on the hand with the hooking / passing, etc if within hard contact. Is that a possibility? If it is, how would you change the approach of the blade when using those angles with a single edge folder? Thank you Sir, John
@evadetheblade558 жыл бұрын
Hello John, I hope you are doing well. I am glad my videos can help you out with your learning. Your question regarding the folder is very valid. you really do need to have a reliable single edged folder. Emerson blades are very reliable and you will not have that problem of it folding the opposite direction when using it in any self-protection movements. Spend the money on the quality of the blade so that you will have no doubt especially when you have to use it to defend yourself. If you have any other questions please let me know. Take care and be safe 24 / 7 / 365!

I absolutely love your videos and it helped me drill too! My question is when you go for the biceps and thighs, what areas hypothetically can you go for without hitting the brachial artery and the femoral artery? Or could you say that in the heat of the moment, you can ignore them and just get home safe? Also it would be really nice if you had a 12 angles for baston video! I'm not sure if you already had one :) More power to you sir!

Hello YUNG Eukaryote. I hope you are doing well. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have been on vacation. If you do not want to go for any arteries, then I would highly suggest going for tendons that the attacker uses to hold the weapon. For example, tendons of the wrist or the elbow which prevents attacker from holding a weapon or extending the arm to attack. Hope this helps. Good video for sure. Just a minor note - your deployment in 3:43 failed. Wave feature on Emerson karambit is a nice thing but I don´t know if I would rely on it in real life exactly because of what happened in the video. You finished the deployment with a downward thrust but under pressure from a real threat this might not be so easy, especially for someone with less proficiency. You could overlook that the deployment was not complete and strike with your fingers positioned between the blade and handle - not exactly a thing you would like to happen.
@evadetheblade556 жыл бұрын
Hello Costojanku Costosned. Great point! I totally agree. During stress the deployment may never be completely open especially during duress. I associate it with firearms if your gun jams. One must practice the skill of tap, rack, and bang to reset for the next bullet to chamber. Well here, when the blade does not fold out completely, the downward stroke to ensure it opens must be part of your practice. Thank you again for the comment!
