Karambit /Kerambit (english)

The Filipino Martial Arts, also known as Kali, Arnis and Eskrima, deal with different areas of weapon and empty hand fighting. In our series Filipino Weapons, we want to offer to interested martial artists the wide variety of Filipino weapons, their handling, different drills and their application in today´s self-defense.
Part one of our multipart series shows the art of fighting with the Kerambit. The Kerambit is a sickle knife of South-East Asia. Typical for this knife is the curved edge and the ring at the end of the grip. In the intro we talk about some theoretical aspects of the Kerambit and
follow up with the practical use of it. Starting with basic techniques (handling, stabs, slashes and combinations) we move to exercises with a partner (inside-, split-, outside entry and follow ups), drills, applications and their transfer into self-defense scenarios.

The Kerambit/Karambit is originated in Indonesia & spread across Malaysia & the Philippines, that's why only Silat & Eskrima/Kali/Arnis martial artists are using this concealed weapon for many years before the colonizers arrived in South East Asia.

What level is this set of DVDs intended for?

I wouldn't do or practice the flip over the clothes, it can stuck in real situations. Flips are better for counter defence and only over skin, just my 5 cents.
