Thank you for this video! I am looking into a small home kiln for me and my teenage daughter. I love every single one of your videos - they are so helpful for beginners like us!!! And I’d imagine everyone who watches them could learn a few things. Your students are lucky to have you ❤

Hi!!! I just found you and I love your videos. They’re so helpful. Thank you so much for sharing 😊. Any chance you do a bisque firing tutorial for this little guy? I’m thinking of getting one but so nervous about it.

Hello I am looking into buying this kiln due to limited space in my garage/don’t have a 240v outlet. Would you be able to tell me if it successfully achieves a cone 6? My ceramics teacher said it would struggle to get to cone 6 temp on 115v, and I wouldn’t get the glaze results I’m looking for. I would fire to cone 6 regularly (like once per week) which she also said would diminish the life of the kiln if I fire at max all the time. Any tips or opinions from another professional ceramicist would be appreciated! Thank you and love your videos
@KaransPotsAndGlass11 ай бұрын
Hi! The kiln has successfully achieved cone 6- no issues there. It’s programmable- so I just put a little hold or soak at the peak temp is what I use. It is correct that firing to cone 6 repeatedly will shorten the life of the elements - but that’s also true of any kiln… cone 6 has more wear and tear than cone 04 bisque. It’s very small- not large enough for a plate- but a few mugs would work. Check what other sizes Skutt has in the 115 to make sure it’s the right one for you!
@Ghhkli11 ай бұрын
Thank you for your quick reply! I was also looking at the Skutt 614 but had the concern again that firing to cone 6 in the slightly larger size at 120v would still be an issue. But I just watched you do a cone 6 glaze fired to cone 5 with a 25 minute hold and it turned out beautifully. Have you used a 614? Thank you!

Didn’t know you could get test Kiln, don’t think SKUTT U.K. sell these. I’m saving for my first Kiln but I’m making small bit to put in it when I get it. It’s killing me making stuff ready when I haven’t got a kiln and nobody near me has one to share 😢 it will be worth it, just love SKUTT saw one in Florida on holiday and fell in love with it, SKUTT 822 😊 Thanks for sharing this.

Karen: I am such a visual learner. Would you do an actual bisque fire in this tiny kiln from greenware to Bisque fire? I am curious how to place pieces in this kiln (None on floor/sides, near thermocouple etc.) and approximately how many regular mugs would fit into this at a firing. I am a new home potter and considering a purchase of this model but want to be sure it will hold enough. Appreciate your videos so much.
@KaransPotsAndGlass Жыл бұрын
Yes, I intend to test fire bisque (some clay experimentation by my kids) and also glaze tests. Not too sure how many mug it could fit. I intend to fire it this week, and I can give you a better approximation after I do that! There may be another slightly larger option by skutt- still runs on 115 volts- www.theceramicshop.com/product/18926/km-614-3-pottery-kiln/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwusunBhCYARIsAFBsUP-M8gLMDpm_MExiKFTtQ4rLEagdmDaSJGBqgl2owjm1w3U_FV5QQsIaAgpbEALw_wcB
