I think that’s true for basically all Eastern martial arts except Muay Thai. Look at what kinds of martial arts MMA fighters practice if you want to know what’s actually effective in a real fight. It’s all about kickboxing / Thai boxing and above all BJJ / grappling and none of these ancient Eastern martial arts that are based on these dodgy belief systems. The biggest scam of them all is Aikido which is a ‘martial art’ where people pretend they’re practicing all these crazy elaborate self-defense moves but never even feel the need to put them to the test at all lol

Forms, or Kata are essentially an encyclopedia of techniques and combinations compiled over generations by masters. They are used in most Traditional martial arts (Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc) to some degree as a way to pass on a system or style. Each movement executed typically has many different applications, from a block, to a strike, to a throw, joint lock... they are only part of martial arts, they do not substitute actual sparring but are trained together with sparring and conditioning. They also help teach proper technique (posture, generating power..) kata, or forms, are similar to shadow boxing in that when practicing them you are imagining various ways of responding to an opponent.

@@louispeddiltton47 i always studied chinese martial arts so i cant comment on these forms mych as far as their placement in their system but i can say these guys both looked solid. Their form was beautiful. I think its more about that than anything, they arent grading the form itself so much as the practitioners execution of it. I had to work overtime throughout the Olympics so unfortunatly so i didnt get to see it. I would assume though just like any other event that each martial artist had atleast 2 or 3 performances and they did several forms/Kata and this is just one of them.

@Gunzo568
@Gunzo568 Ай бұрын
@@jls7394what is it?
@jls7394
@jls7394 Ай бұрын
@@Gunzo568 A "Kata" is a set of movements that teach various things. Within the Kata there are many movements, each of them can involve an attack, a defense, a movement, etc. On the other hand, it prepares the body, since there are very difficult positions. It prepares the mind, since the focused repetition of each small movement makes it natural. When someone outside the martial arts sees a Kata, they think: "what nonsense, you can't fight like that on the street." The "Kata", if you want to take it to reality, you should not try to do a complete Kata on the street (basically, because it is impossible). What you can do is take advantage of those trained movements over and over again in the Kata. The Kata is for someone to be one with the movement.

I mean that’s subjective it’s a subjective sport in my opinion and with karate having an Asian lineage to it’s origin I think there is a slight advantage for him to have the ethnicity card in that favour. Obviously they are both talented but this is my honest opinion it’s a hard call to make and I wouldn’t wanna be the judge of this sport

This is kind of true. Imagine air guitar where judge look if your move could do the real notes of music. I do karate. But I agree on this, kata shouldn't be a competitive matter. Sadly, competitions in kata have a tendency to change the move, making them more theatrical, less pragmatic.

Did Karate for 12 years, the Kata is much harder then it looks, body control, breathing the nonstop holding of your posture is pretty hard in higher level katas. The is also a 3 men group version of this, where you also need to take timing and into account.
