It also depends on what we mean by modernizing. Technically, taekwondo became what it is today due to a process of modernization that has effectively made it into an olympic sport that is far less of a martial art than it used to be in the early 2000's let alone in its origins. But I certainly share the sentiment that a full-contact iteration of Taekwondo, as done for Karate by this organization and as done for Kung-Fu by Wushu Sanda as stated in the above comment, would be highly interesting and also entertaining.

True heart of a champion. Joshua Quayhagen. Gustavo is also a phenomenal competitor. I believe that he'll climb his way up again.

Gustavo is one of the few fighters to actually employ Karate principles and tactics - as opposed to the kickboxing used by most fighters. And he was completely overwhelming Quayhagen in the first two rounds using Karate... until he got fatigued and was unable to continue effectively.

The rule-set is a slightly similar but every single fighter is from a Karate background. It's actually interesting to see what the art is capable of without the restrictive rule-set that Karate competitions usually have.

To be honest i wish Karate Combat and Max Muay thai had a crossover where there top figthers fougth each other in mixed rules match. Everythimg was allowed punch kick knee elbows. Takedowns ground control just like mma

I think if thigh kick was allowed a thai fighter would dominate this sport. I find it strange no one uses the "open stance" Bas said negates the low kicks. Head movement seems non-existent here. These guys are fit and tough but it seems risky. Very interesting that their weren't many kicks.

@@RuiStange Note que ele venceu os primeiros rounds e depois do segundo ele cai de rendimento e o Quayhagen começa a crescer na luta. Se o critério é round a round e fosse apenas três rounds e não cinco, provavelmente ele venceria a luta, mas ele não aguentou manter o ritmo por 5 rounds.
