With the first story about the lawn mowing I get it, when I lived with my family abroad I would help by mowing the lawn in the property and just out side, when ever I did the outside I would go up and down and do the neighbours as well, they always thanked me for it and I felt really happy. Funny enough when I first started doing that I wasn't really aware that you don't mow wet grass, never had to think about it, it was the neighbours that told me to wait for it to dry before continuing. It's amazing how many people will do neighbourly stuff just for the good feeling of helping and the cold water helps a lot on a hot day. But honestly if someone like that did that I wouldn't of worked with such fault equipment, but I am fully on his side.

I totally agree - during our 'lockdown', I started mowing the tiny lawn of my next-door neighbour, as I knew she had a bad back (she was a funeral director, who took care of my late partners' funeral for me), as well as that of a young lady who rented the 1 bed property across the road (I found out she did not own a mower, and asked her mum to come over with hers in her car to do it!), even after she moved I carried on, as the new tenant is a nurse and works odd shifts (and is still recovering from a cycle accident)! 3 years on, I still do theirs every time I do mine...

Story #1 I can totally relate to, I had an elderly lady on one side of me, who's husband was only sporadically in the picture, and a vacant lot on the other side, and a friendly neighbor next to the vacant lot who let me use his 2nd assigned parking place. So since it wasn't too much more effort to mow 4 tiny postage stamp yards than one, I mowed all 4. Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming to be some kind of saint, I mowed the friendly neighbor's grass because he was letting me use his extra parking space and had no mower, I mowed the vacant lot because the absentee landlord didn't, and it would turn into a mosquito infested jungle otherwise, and I mowed the old lady's lawn cause her husband was a nicer person than she was, and we sometimes talked outside late at night, as we were both smokers but didn't smoke in the house. Anyway, one day she gave me hell for the way I cut her grass, I had seen the property lines on a website, so I knew what was actually hers and what was "community space". I mowed her grass, then cut across the community space with the mower still running, it left a weird stripe. I did think about how it would look odd, but I also knew the schedule of the neighborhood mowers who were contracted by the HOA, so I knew the stripe would be gone in a day or two. Well, she didn't like it one bit, and let me know in no uncertain terms. That summer was the last one where I mowed her grass. Since then, she left her husband and moved to the left coast, so I now have a much more pleasant neighbor on that side, and I think I know now why he was only around like half the time.

Must be different per state as I used to work at a liquor store and ours was $250 a bottle for Blue and Black was $35 per bottle. Liquor prices are handled directly from state. Safe to say, people argued with me over prices a lot. But I used to tell them to go write a letter to the government because they set the prices, not me. Lol
@thaddeus36482 жыл бұрын
Most certainly. Depending on where you are, there are a number of things that set prices. Some is state regulated, some is county regulated pricings. I forget the details, but I think its a region gets a shipment of bottles to supply all of it's stores with and it's the region that sets the prices on the bottles. Where I am, I think its county wide as I can head a few cities over and get different bottles at different prices.

Mower lady: this is a tough life lesson to learn, especially at a younger age. Most of us are, by nature, uncomfortable with confrontation. All of us will, at one time or another, deal with someone unreasonable who uses anger to manipulate us. You can either learn to stand up for yourself or be a doormat and miserable. I'm not saying this is permission to be a jerk back. I'm saying to be firm and stand your ground. Your first step is to set boundaries, like you would with a petulant 3 year old. Say something like, "you will speak to me calmly and respectfully, or this conversation is over." They will get angry back because that's all they know. You then say, "this conversation is over. Come back and speak to me when you are ready to be respectful." Then leave or shut the door. Rinse and repeat as often as necessary. If they won't respect your boundaries, it's over. This will be hard the first time, but it gets easier the next times. And you won't believe how much better you will feel about yourself.

But with the music as loud as it was, I felt comfortable to do the same (during the day and maybe one or two times a week for maybe an hour tops). We never complained and neither did we. It felt like a silent mutual agreement. Play your music loud if you like, but don't do it at night or early morning and don't complain when you hear your neighbors doing the same.
