And if you do, that's because they were forced to grow up faster because of their environment, which most of them realize later in life, and that isn't right. Of course he was kind of narcissistic. He was 15. I was a MASSIVE narcissist when I was 15. I was a very different person a mere 4 years ago. You change a lot, and yea, sometimes it takes a health scare to wake someone up. I mean an apology that tries to lay the blame also on the person you're sorry to isn't really an apology. Op sucks and should do an actual apology and make up with his parents.

He was still stupid for throwing fit (politely) ower someone trying to save his life. He was a giant hypocrite for telling that his overweight is a good thing to show who really cares about him when he to the end refused to take care from the only two peraons who really wanted to help him over some "internet studies" and reddit nerds and sjw community. He literally tried to find way to sue (or at least threaten to sue) his parents for trying to help him. And in the end when they lost all faith in him and come to terms with the fact that their kid would die horrible death or become a fat vegetable. As a conclusion when he got his head from ass he just said: "Oh, this stupid parents don't want to talk to me and they did so much horrible things to me, so I just run away from them as soon as I turn 18" He didn't change mentally. He's still a narcissist, but now his condition got through his stupidity. Only that got through, nothing else. His parents are still bad. Guys on reddit that said that he should lose weight are bad as staff of a camp, doctors and school are as well. And 15 isn't an age for throwing fit not to attend events and talking to new people in camp. He literally went on reddit to ask if there are any legal ways to stop parents. It's the age when your critical thinking should be at least near done as there are only 4 years to adulthood. Trying to imply that it's normal to be stupid narcissist at the age of 15 speaks for itself.

I feel bad that a lot of people are blaming him, but like… his parents neglected him like crazy. How do people learn to take or not take responsibility for their actions? Well, when you’re his age, you learn that from your parents primarily! Honestly, his parents set him up for a rough life of hard adult lessons, so it’s kinda cool that he wound up learning to take responsibility for himself by accident at 17. There’s a KZbinr named Megan Anne, who also learned these health consequences at a young age, got WLS and got her shit together, and now she makes videos talking about that, and about the damage that the fat acceptance movement can do to society-she also says she was grateful that she didn’t have to wait until she got older for negative health outcomes to present themselves, so there was still plenty of time to fix it in her youth before irreversible damage started happening.

The second story seems to be getting a lot of hate from people because the kid wasn’t except responsibility, which yes is a major problem, but he also makes it clear in the future that he was in a bad relationship with his parents due to them being off and on parents. I’ve had a couple of friends who had similar situations and it took them several years to get their lives together. Maybe not with the weight thing, but one of my friends almost failed school because of it. Off and on parenting is not helpful to a child going through their toughest years. The child clearly saw this as a spite against him and probably got some bad advice from his friends at school which I think most of us can relate to. Realistically he’s being a dumb 8th/9th grader who thinks he knows more than he does. I think most people have that stage in life where we think we know everything. Rather than be mad at a kid who was being dumb, we should be inspired by a kid who turned his life around for the better. It may have been a hard road for him, but he’s improved his life and that’s what’s really important. I just hope someday he can have a civil relationship with his parents, which again only feels like it’s partially his fault, but majorly neglect on the parents fault.

@@Pikachu150 I wholeheartedly agree with you. A big piece of evidence is that this story wasn't told in one go, but slowly updated over the years. All the new bad details about his parents only came up when he wanted to change his image for a perfect redemption arc. From the start, he did not hold back on sharing any details, so I don't believe he was withholding anything in the past. Plus, if they were such bad parents, they sure kept feeding, clothing, and schooling him during the no verbal communication period. They lost hope for him, but did not give up on their parental duties. And it's more likely that there were attempts to start a conversation, but it always ended up badly because of OP. So yeah, I don't believe it one bit when OP is labeling his parents as toxic. He's just too arrogant , egoistic, and narcisstic to bear the blame all by himself. He doesn't even want to share the blame 50/50. He probably just wants 5.

That guy grew so much in 2 years. Going from a child saying no to someone who takes responsibility for his actions. He literally got a wake-up call and did what he needed to. It's sad to see his parents neglected him. No child deserves to live like that. As a child your parents are responsible for your eating habits, when you buy your own food it's your own. It may be hard to break those habits, because you've probably been stuck with them for ~18 years. If you're trying to lose weight remember that every single change you make, even a single cookie per week less, is progress. The reason many people fail when they diet is doing everything at once. Try small steps you feel comfortable with. If you know you can't have snacks in the house because they will get eaten, leave them at the store. If you know you're not going to eat those apples, don't buy them either. If walking past snacks in a store is too difficult for you, try doing your groceries online. The items are in sections, and fruit, veggies, meat, dairy, and bread are at the top. If you don't have an online store try asking someone else to go for you or with you. And never ever go without a list, keeping to a list is way easier than looking for things you want to eat, because the lure of delicious easy things are way less tempting when you don't see them.

Here’s the thing about the second story; I used to be forced to exercise every day, for 30 minutes. I hated it cause I have flat feet, and it hurt like hell, and I had an eating disorder for a hot minute, so didn’t help me very much. It led to me getting to 180 pounds, and for a five foot man, it was bad. I hated my body, and i hated the idea of exercise cause it was intrinsically linked with the other trauma i had as a kid. But then I began getting healthier slowly over time, exercising and boxing, things that made me happy, not something someone was forcing me to. I wasn’t shamed for my weight at my new house, and I wanted to lose weight so I could be healthier, and do the things I loved. Plus, I just like boxing. That’s the thing about weight loss; it can’t be something you’re forced into, especially when you’re young, like this guy was. Yeah, he was a know it all, but most folks are at 15, and the fact that those parents are just stonewalling communications with him now… to me that doesn’t feel right. I’m glad OP is doing better, and I hope the relationship with their folks get better, cause while the OP was being obstinate, those parents went about their good intentions in the worst way possible.

When it comes to the second story, I can relate to a degree. I also suffer from weight issues as well. At my heaviest, I was at 375 lbs. Now, I've lost as much as 75 pounds. (There was a point where my weight was at 285 lbs., but I had gained about 15 lbs. later... either it was because of excess water, foostuffs, muscle... or possibly slipping in my dieting. The pandemic has been, and still is, very difficult for anyone who's trying to keep the excess weight off.) Now, the question about OP being the jerk? Well, yes. His issues about his girth isn't an issue of vanity. It's an issue of health. (I can defintely relate as I had sleep apnea due to obesity, even using a CPAP machine for awhile to help me sleep. I don't need the machine anymore now.) Also, the parents were jerks. They were pretty much neglecting their child and only involving themselves few and far between and using unrealistically harsh methods. The "fat camp" may sound like a good idea at that time, but you cannot force someone to lose weight unless the person (OP in this case) wants to lose the weight. Anyway, I'm glad OP in the second story did decide to lose weight for himself and is continuing to improve himself. I hope he keeps up the good work and continue to better himself in the forseeable future.

I relate to that last story, but my issue is I've been bigger my whole life where even with EDs I never lost, but never gained either. I stayed at the same high weight no matter what I ate, if I didn't eat, if I exercised or didn't, etc for 10+ years. The only time I lost weight was over a year when I was turning 18, my parents stopped buying me food saying they couldn't afford it, and so I was only eating once to twice a week by either art commissions or sneaking small amounts of pretzels that were too little to notice go missing. I was also exercising on top of it, but over that whole year or maybe more, with barely eating and exercising I only lost 40lbs, and promptly gained it all back once I moved out and was eating one meal everyday. My new doctor in my new state has concluded me not being able to lose weight is related to some type of MEDICAL CONDITION that currently is unknown due to starving way more than normal was the only way I really lost any weight at all. My parents have shamed me my whole life basically with my mother even commenting things like "you wouldn't even fit smaller than a size 20 or higher" at that time I was a size 14. Parents seem to shame their kids for being heavier even when its entirely out of their kids control, it's awful. Some people *really* cannot control their weight due to medications, or not being on medications, or other undiagnosed problems that they need help with, not shaming, it could even be addiction for all you know, it can be caused by depression, anxiety, etc. You NEVER know! Moral of the story is basically never body shame and never assume a bigger person is just lazy, some of us are trying super hard to lose weight.

I was just about to comment that. Which girls are shallow?? Dude. 99.9% of girls wouldn't date a fat guy because being fat just isn't good, socially. Not to mention the biological danger of being fat. You're more likely to get a heart attack if you are fat, than if you are not. This guy sounds like one of the people who loves fat culture because it helps them to accept that it's okay and perfectly safe being fat. Like, NO. It is not. Fat and bitter. Perfect statement. He is like those women in woke culture who rate themselves as a 10, while being f-ing 200 lbs. Lol. Get over yourself, OP. Or just keep playing into your insecurity that the world is cruel and fat shaming you. LMAO

My family only used our lawyer if the school punished me or my siblings for fighting back against a bully or for standing up to a bad/belligerent teacher. We didn’t sue just because the teacher yelled at us or punished us when we actually deserved it (sneaking out, chewing gum, going “out of bounds”, disrupting class, horseplay, etc.).

Story 2: you can't force someone to lose weight and basing on a kid for resisting is wild. Let's not pretend going to a fat camp is a healthy choice when we know most places can boarder line on torture for forcing kids to have "results". Plus last update shows OP was dealing with bigger problems outside of weight like a stable home life. How is everyone brushing past that initial fact because it would explain why he was to depressed to doing or became overweight from stress. The parents are in the wrong in this situation for being neglectful and dismissive to push everything to the extreme.

My mom was a glorified baby sitter in my elementary school from when I was in kindergarten to about 4th grade. My whole school loved her. Everyone knew her, no one knew she was my mom. We didn’t look alike she had curly hair I had straight, she had short darker brown hair, I had long medium brown hair. My mom had A LOT of freckles, I had freckles in the summer barley any in the winter. I got bullied a lot by this kid Lily (7) I was 8 I have two older sisters R (12) and N (11) I am the youngest. I started to tell my best friend who is my sister about it. A few week in to this kid bullying me N told me to tell mom when it happens. I as a naive 8 year old I did not. She continued until I told my mom and my friends. She continued until the end of the year. I forgot to say it was her first year in our school, so she didn’t have a lot of friends I was her ONLY friend. She was over protective and that lead to bullying. I got revenge in 4th grade when I was 10 I had my favorite teacher ever and Lily kept stealing from me. So I told the teacher on her it started with her reaching into my desk and taking a pencil, I did mind because she didn’t give it back. Then she took my DOG ASH NECLACE, and a few bracelets, she didn’t know that it was a dog ash necklace but it fell out of her bag and I grabbed it off the floor. I planned to get even more revenge than that I was gonna help my friend who she bullied in 4th grade to report her to the principal. She moved in 5th grade, only to a new school she was still in the same school district. After this kid moved I became friends with kids on my bus. I said my full name to him and he said ‘you are not related to Mrs.(my last name)and became like a rudder kid but we became friends. Anyways I don’t have anymore time to type so bye. I hope you have a good morning/evening/afternoon.

I once woke up gasping for hair. I had already been trying to lose weight but I was in a similar situation as the kid in that last story. Not because I didnt want to lose weight, because I did and I still do, but I was trying to hard and I didn't like myself. Now I am successfully losing weight and it's been about a year or two since I woke up gasping for air like that. I'm still over 200 pounds but I am getting better, and one of the reasons I'm still over 200 pounds is because I've been gaining muscle.

The parents went about this the wrong way. You don't force someone to change. You should respectively educate them and support them. There should be support like joining in activities or diets if possible, also if a person is questioning why this stuff is happening or why they need do this then explain things respectively. Even if they don't want help then leave a door open so they can come to you.

As a heavy person as well I don’t at all condone this behavior. This kid is 15 and he doesn’t have a say, I don’t enjoy being fat. I’m trying to lose weight to feel better and it’s been working and I’m seeing a difference. So this kid is one of those people who think being fat is healthy when it’s definitely not.

@@ChelseyIsATotal5SOSFan Honestly, I think the parents totally bungled their approach to the OP's health issue. By sending OP to the fat camp against the OP's wishes, they only prompted the OP to dig in their heels. (I suspect this may well be a major factor in the low success rate of these camps.) While an intervention may have been necessary they needed to find another way to deal with it, preferably more hands-on on the parents' part (given the previous parental neglect). I honestly think that the parents' decision to send OP to fat camp only entrenched the OP's behavior deeper, which may have contributed to the OP's later resistance to the medical interventions, and then the later health crisis.

How did he have the motivation to keep exercising? I've been doing intermittent fasting that is supposed to work for my body type (20/4) and when I do eat, it's healthy foods like egg, spinach, and ham omelettes. I have scoliosis and minor arthritis in my hip and knee, so most exercises like walking and running are extremely taxing and somewhat painful, but not in a good way. I'm 5'11" and about 235+lbs and I want to get back to my swim team weight 175. I can't believe I thought I was fat back then.. All the swimming pools here are heckin expensive, and I can't afford a membership. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and work more so I can afford it. Any advice would be great Edit: the arthritis is from a surgery I had when I was 16 and I'm almost 21

For story two, legally he can be forced to go to (I think he called it) fat camp in fact parents can do a lot of things because minors have very little rights one of the things your parents can do is force you to go somewhere. Also another thing a parent can do is give you unfair and harsh punishment so no it’s not abuse (unless it is) and that’s coming from a 13 year old, that’s saying a lot about how little people know the law, I don’t really want to talk about what I think and technically is legally correct mostly because so many people would get mad (Just saying I learned this from my civics teacher who was in the military he also has the funniest stories).

the 2nd story i was thinking the entire time: Why now? i mean you need it ASAP. Not because of look at all but because been fat is really dangerous, considering how your body react to that and as well how much your grease in blood affect. Since you can get a cardiac arrest any any point of your life because of that too. Maintain a balanced body is better. But everything comes from your mind as well since you had to have the mindset to pull it through as well. I always try to maintain a balance too since i found myself with high cholesterol last year, and manage to lose 10kg in 3 months by only doing 1 hour of gym bike per day. In the end this affect me good too. SO, i can said: "Do this for yourself and not for others, your will thanks me later". But that not excuse what the parents did either, because they should show him the bad side of been fat too and what cause in adults. Also they don't need a camp since a Gym make that one better. EVEN SET UP A FRIGGING GYM BIKE ON YOUR HOME. Again, because i had that in my room, since this was a gift for my mother, but she use her mountain bike more than the gym bike too, and my room has space for store it, so i said "WHY NOT?". And even i set it in front of my PC when i had to do exercise and watch something or play games while I'm on it. Also i recommend it to play racing games too, since enhance the experience of "running" much better. Also i think it was more the parents not been parents and push it when OP was teen without the proper care as well. I was on other hand really skinnier but had a metabolism high. I gain weight around 2016 to 2018. I had a belly. It wasn't much but then my work start to decline due tireness and laziness cause by cholesterol high. That was last year and i began to make a routine to keep my weight around 70 kg , plus the body shape that as well.

As for the weight one, I do feel better mentally after losing 40 pounds. I'm on a special diet for my epilepsy... The keto diet. All I keep track of is carbs. Less than 20 grams a day. I don't count calories, fats, protein, or anything. JUST carbs. I work with a nutritionist and have blood work done regularly. I enjoy the diet and it makes it easy to feel good. There's pride due to my success, less physical pain, and so much more.
