Pattern 2 (new born)
Tongue
Toe section
R1. Ch3, 8hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook
R2. Ch1, turn, 2sc in each st (total 16 sc)
To straighten the edge, work sc, 2sc, 2sc, 2sc, sc (8sc)
Slip stitch to the 1st sc in R2.
Fasten off leaving a really long tail to use to attach the toe section to the base of your slipper.
Now work up the straight part of the tongue.
Leave a really long tail to use to do the slip stitching around the completed straight area.
Count back 8 stitches from the slip stitch (don’t count the slip stitch as a stich)
R1. Cast on with a sc and sc in the next 7 (total 8sc)
R2 to R8. Sc in each st (8sc)
Fasten off with a normal length tail to sew in.
Pick up the really long tail of the straight piece and use it to slip st all around the straight piece.
Fasten off and sew in all loose ends, leaving the really long tail from the toe section.
Now put your hook through the toe piece and slip stitch the tongue to the base by matching up your stitches. It will look too small, but don’t worry, if you have counted all your stitches correctly, it will fit and round the slipper end nicely.
Sew in the loose end.
Your slipper will be all floppy, but the next parts stiffen it up to give a beautiful finish.
