He's not saying "alright" as in "ok, I've been introduced" he's saying "alright" as a short form of "are you alright?" As in "hello, how are you?". It's not a statement, it's a question.

Possibly even a greeting rather than question, but, regionally it’s going to be different. If I say “alright” to someone, I wouldn’t expect an answer other than “alright” or “hello”

I had the same problem as an Englishman who moved to New Zealand. I satrted saying "alright.." to people and they thought I was asking about their day. I was like no you just say it back.. I think its originally just a shortned version of "are you alright?" but its a rhetorical question in most cases with English people coz we don't actually want to know the answer to that. We're just saying "hi". lol

"Alright?" is a question with a question mark, not a statement with a period. It's short for "are you all right?" which is a way of saying "How are you?" however it's mostly rhetorical and you don't actually answer it. It is mainly used as a way of saying "hello." Saying hello doesn't end a conversation.

You're saying the "alright" with a downward pitch shift, like "OK that's the end of that". To use it as a greeting the pitch needs to go up, like "are you good? what's happening?"

There has actually been a quite big update on the Apendix in recent years, "Among adult humans, the appendix is now thought to be involved primarily in immune functions. Where I live they charge for paper bags, plastic is outlawed. It's not the whole state, so the next town over has plastic bags and they don't charge for them! I'm with Karl on this one!

I never understood why Karl ,and most people in general, hate these kind of toilets. So you would prefer instead of doing your job "safely" without touching anything, to SIT on that kind of toilet. If I'm outside and I have an option I always go for the hole. :D

What im about to say is meant with kindness, aiming to be helpful and supportive. Daniel, when someone introduces you (let's say on a future podcast), you can still create conversation/pleasantries etc by saying something like "good morning/evening, hope everyone watching is keeping well, I'm excited to be here, how are you doing [insert hosts name]?". Not being patronising or anything, but just some pointers in case Americans do actually tend to be a bit blindsided by our tendancy to introduce others on their behalf 😅👍😊

The UK carrier bag charge was introduced by the Government in 2015 to cut down on one use bag usage and extended it in 2021. The use of bags was reduced by 97%. This applies to all retail outlets now, there is no choice for them.

@@annother3350 I also used to use supermarket carrier bags as bin bags. However, now that I recycle, I'm not throwing out nearly as much as I used to. So even though I now need to buy bin bags instead of using the supermarket ones, they're not really getting used very much. Once I've taken out cardboard, glass, plastic and cans, I don't have much going in my "general waste" bin at all. So it's really not much of an expense.
