Karla Bonoff New World

Today's 5 Minute Concert with Karla Bonoff and Nina Gerber is the title track from her 1988 album, her first album independently released after a long time away from studio recording. The song, New World, is hopeful, thoughtful, and a song perfect for our time. Right now, in 2020, the world is upside down and we are all wondering what our New World will look like. It's a beautiful song and has become an important part of her live repertoire. This version, like many of the other wonderful performances we have been sharing, was recorded at My Father's Place in Roslyn, NY in the fall of 2019.

New World has long been a favourite, and I've enjoyed it even more today with Karla's songbook having arrived recently. It's rare that an artist and their music is timeless. So it is with Karla, who doesn't sing as much as she emotes. Listening is an experience, always; every time, somehow, something new is revealed in her words or piano or guitar. "The new world waits inside your dream..." Truer words never spoken nor sung. Thank you, Karla and Nina, for sharing this classic once more.

This is jut so beautiful! My lovely Mum passed away in January and we played this at her funeral. She loved Karla's music and it was a special moment to hear this song as we said goodbye. My Dad worked in the USA in the 80s and first heard Karla on the radio. He brought back a record of Karla's home to England and we grew up listening to her. We love her and her music will always make me feel close to my Mum. Thank you x

I recently saw karla perform in Boothbay Harbor Maine. Wow!!! Unlike every other performer from her "musical time frame", her voice is every bit as beautiful as it was when she first performed the songs that I heard that evening. Thank you Karla... Rick.

Digging through some old boxes and found my cassette of Karla Bonoff's New World album. Went online to see what Karla was up to these days and was treated to this video of her singing New World. This song really touched me when I was going through the worst stretch of my life, and the lyrics sound new in this current Corona virus world. Much love.
