Seeing the difference in how a pro shoots versus an how an amateur shoots side by side (both in terms of shot selection and mechanics) really makes me appreciate how difficult this game can be.

This is absolutely awesome. This is what amateur players need to hear. The reasons and why’s behind different shot selections from a pro. This is the stuff that matters. Keep it up Karl!!

Karl, this is a great idea for a series. Over in the US Rollie Williams was doing something similar on the Kamui KZbin channel. Hunter Lambardo was helping him get ready for the US Open but then COVID happened and it didn't really go any further. Rollie had developed a pretty good following on his "average to good" series and was doing videos with a number of pros that live in NYC. This is great watching you continue to work with him.

First of all I really like these types of videos. Hopefully you keep producing more of these. On the first shot on the three. I would have hit it like the average pool player and probably ended up in the same situation. The way you hit it is for sure the way to go. On the final shot hitting high on the cue and knocking the 2 into the side and getting position on the three is a very natural shot for me, and as you said, it makes getting on the four easier. Please keep making this type of video. Most of us can learn a lot from them.

Biggest tip here is to play into the line of the shot, when possible. It will change your shot selection and make you a better player knowing you have more room for error. If you don’t know what playing into the line of the shot means, watch the video until you do. 🤷🏼‍♂️. Thanks Karl great video. More pattern plays plz

7:00 The suggestion to pot the 2 ball and draw back to the 3 might be correct only if the player is capable of pulling it off. Most amateur players won't be able to do it anyways so you can't say that this is the right shot. You have to adjust the suggestion to the level of the player

I think I understand how to do the delayed top spin but it would have been nice to hear how. I guess you just hit it a little harder with less top spin make sure the speed is slow enough for the 3. I'm going to have to play around with different speeds to see how much it can be delayed, never thought of that.

Karl's way was definitely the right way. Less risk, more control of the cue ball, and a better chance to win the game from all of the shots. Especially the safety. Even when it wasn't played well there still was a distance factor and some impeding balls to navigate for the opponent.

In shot #3 I wouldve played the 2 with top-rightened english, so that the cue ball travels from the short down coushon to the short top coushon. I think its easier to controll that way, but I guess thats just personal preference
@LorenzoRossi_
@LorenzoRossi_ 10 ай бұрын
Yeah but maybe when the 2 is so distant to the 3 it is probably easier to draw instead as the cue ball has to make less distance and you don't have to manipulate much with outside spin which can be tricky to control at fast speed. However my first thought was to follow with right as well, I guess I should try this shot 100 times with both ways and see what works best!

@robertl426 9 ай бұрын
What's your definition of a "proper" sport? Snooker is much harder for recreational players yes, but when snooker players have entered pool tournaments they don't automatically win every time. It's a different skill set.
@demonmonsterdave
@demonmonsterdave 9 ай бұрын
@@robertl426 Snooker players easily dominate in pool without much training. There is a great deal of evidence for this. Meanwhile, pool players NEVER upgrade to snooker because they lack the ability. This is because pool is not a proper sport. It is the children's version of snooker.
@robertl426
@robertl426 9 ай бұрын
@@demonmonsterdave I will agree with you that a pro snooker player can enter a pool tournament and be competitive, yet if a pro pool player were to enter a pro snooker tournament they would not be. However, that does not mean that pool is not a proper sport however you are choosing to define that. American pool regularly incorporates skills that are rarely if ever seen in snooker. For example: jump shot and kick shot pots (with position), the break, push shot strategy, the 3 foul rule, nominating pockets etc etc. Just because snooker is a more difficult form of billiards does not mean that pool is not a proper sport. In pool there is 8 ball, 9 ball, 10 ball, straight pool, bank pool, one pocket, 3 cushion billiards and the list goes on. Snooker is just snooker. I'm a fan of all billiard sports including snooker, pool is a sport just like darts is still a sport.

@@LorenzoRossi_ I am sorry you got over-emotional and over-reacted. There is nothing wrong with enjoying a game without needing to pretend it is a proper sport. The fact that you are willing to give it up for so little says a lot about how seriously you used to take it, which confirms the fact it is not a sport. Otherwise, you are being dishonest, which confirms even more. However, It's only a few months until conker season, so it's not the end the world. Best wishes.
