Achievements like these are why I rarely say that something is "impossible". Three seconds? Well, "we have no TAS at the moment", "we wouldn't know how to do it right now", "not to our knowledge", but new strats and glitches have been found in other games, even after decades, before. The fighting spirit with which runners go at these challenges is truly inspiring, and Karl, your videos about them are an absolute blast to watch. You've really perfected the way you report about them and seeing your video about a game I play myself as well on my feed instantly makes my day. Thank you!

"This task can really drive you mad! And 5 seconds [for the speedrun] isn't possible, if you do it I'll eat a horse", Demonlord 1995 (at 4:43 ) ... You are absolutely right, Heiko. There are people who regularly eat horses. What seems impossible for one is just daily basis for the other. Hehehehehe, have a good one! Nonetheless the achievements of these nerds are impressive and I could not do it even in triple time:)
@dieSpinnt
@dieSpinnt 5 ай бұрын
@@Ultimaximus Well, at their core, these statements are simply emotion-based claims (or if someone doesn't want to be too harsh: "educated guesses"), ideas, forecasts and predictions. And the only thing that we know (and what predictions funnily can't provide) is the certainty that predictions are just guesses or partly a guess and therefore based on chance ... which makes them definitively unreliable and less important for anything. But who cares? That is absolutely basic human behavior. Everyone does it and this is nothing bad or good or something new, because every sane adult knows about it and should be able to handle such (superfluous?) calendar-sayings and remarks. This applies to all aspects of life and even science, where we predict something or postulate a model that may describe processes in nature (EMPIRICAL science!), which we then have to check with experiments and/or by observation. I hope now (after I generalized and complicated things, hehehe) you can "get how/why people make claims", hehe. P.S.: Oh and the guys who just tell nonsense because they do like everything BUT learning, research, the processes about science I mentioned above ... and don't care about of being honest to their fellow humans (like liars, scammers, busybodies, flat-earthers and governors of Florida) ... I don't have an answer or any clue why they are doing this or why they choose to be that way. Have a good game, Ultimaximus!:)

While 4.97 is by far the most impressive run, Its rare for a player to be able to compete at the absolute highest level in every category, and it truly is incredibly impressive.

You can cut down that number a lot because 4shock used a technique called "double restart" to get his quickstarts, so every other attempt is a blank 0-length demo. I've been trying to teach myself to knit, and while speedrunning a game and learning to wrap yarn around sticks in a very meticulous manner are two very different things, this is inspiring to me as well as reassuring that I will not go insane while trying to knit.

Pretty incredible. Didn't even know things like doorboost and thingrunning existed or were a thing in Doom 2, though I used to play that game quite a bit back in the day. The highest stage I ever made it to was "Tricks and Traps", and really enjoyed the room where the cyberdemon fights against all the barons of hell. Was fun. Didn't understand why enemies would fight each other though. It was a different concept from other video games up until that time.

Working on this 4 second run for an entire year has got to be a insane amount of attempts because it's such a short level. I'm not gonna do the math but it is close to a thousand attempts in one hour. The guy has a light-years worth of total attempts lol. I know that doesn't make sense but sounded cool at the time lol.

Doom 2 was the first game i ever played, and i used to watch my dad play it back in 1996 as a 4-year old. It's also the one game that i always go back to atleast once a year to finish. But i can't speedrun it because i'm obsessed with getting 100% on every level. Kudos to the beasts who puts so much time and effort into speedrunning this though.

Thanks, always entertaining and informative to watch your videos! I also tried my hand at this in the late '90s: I uploaded a TAS demo to Compet-n in which I got 5.37 with no monsters. It implemented a quick-start, strafe 50 and wall-running on the first wall (which might have been counterproductive), but no momentum preservation at the door. In my demo description, I boldly stated, "4 seconds are impossible!" Oh, how wrong I was :).

Don't know if that was a good idea.

I was really hoping for that reveal in the video, but I assume this means he didn't. It would've been quite poetic I believe ^^,
