I chose the prepaid taxi when I landed at India. Then we were told the road to the hotel was closed. We were being left at a shoplot place with a signage written "Ministry of Tourism", in which a dude from that "ministry" claimed to have called our hotel and said that our hotel was closed. He then offered us another hotel with "good price". We walked away, knowing that it's a scam, and walked into an ice cream shop nearby. The kind shopper helped us to call a taxi and the taxi brought us to the hotel safely. We were lucky in a way I would say

Hey Karl. I went to India in 2014 with 2 of my friends. To be honest we didn’t have the best time. We all got sick, people kept staring at us, and we learned after that people took more money from us then required. We should’ve planned it more better. I want to come back to India in 2020 to change my mindset because I know that India is a beautiful country. It’s just gonna be hard to convince my bros.

We also face such situations in India when we go on a tour to some Indian states..once they find out that we do not belong to local area...they charge us more and try to loot as much money as possible for them.. Having said that,things would be much easier compared to 2014..as online transactions and services have increased and most of the things you can get via online route..rather than scammers.

Still no sign of the driver. He then offered to just take a taxi with me to help. Taxi scams are one of the most popular tourist scams all over the world, unlicensed taxis shouting taxi outside the airport, metered taxis "forgetting" to turn the meter on, trying to take you to different places, or taking unnecessary detours are all common. Hey Karl have been watching your channel for long time and I like how you are helping foreigners from being scammed from those people.but bruh even I have travelled north india and they scam indians also if they even get a hint he's not a local guy they charge you more. I would like you to please make a video where locals also get scammed. You doing gud bruh and you helping others to actually survive 😃 Good luck 👍🙏

Hi Karl, I am an Indian, living in NZ. I really like your videos. Your observations and understanding of Indian way of life in India are amazing but I want to give constructive feedback about one particular thing you mentioned in this video i.e. Don't tip the taxi drivers. Please don't give a direct statement like that, instead leave it upto the viewer to decide whether to tip or not. Not all taxi drivers in India would want to rip off customers. Just like everywhere else India also must have its own mix of good and bad people, unfortunately the ratio of bad people might certainly be high in India, especially in a big and hardcore city like Delhi or Mumbai but if you come across a good, honest professional you shouldn't be afraid to reward them with a small tip. I can understand you don't tip them because you are basically a resident of India now but when tourists see your video, let them decide if they want to share their happiness by tipping honest & hardworking people in India or not. I recently visited USA for a month and the ridiculous tipping culture over there blew my mind. Forget about taxi / uber drivers, even pizza delivery drivers EXPECT tips from you and that is after you've already paid $5-7 delivery fee for your pizza. When those cashed up Americans come to India to travel, if they tip even Rs.50 (which would be a very very generous tip by the way) its still less than a dollar for them and in return the honest hardworker feels better and appreciated about his ethics. These hard working people don't get any rewards or lucrative fares from the locals anyway and in a dog eat dog workplace do you think they get to cream naive Westerners all day long? Sometimes, they might even be reliant on getting tips or big fare from certain cashed up tourists to actually make something more than basic living wage. I hate this mentality of looking down on bottom level workers and bargaining with them for absolute rock-bottom prices, especially in an extremely competetive market like in India. Whereas there would be so many shark companies / big name products literally charging an arm and a leg to their consumers. So, as a social media influencer, please be more positive and respectful about those day to day strugglers everywhere and infact promote such gestures of appreciation instead of telling viewers not to be generous to such workers. Thank you.

Certainly legitimate comments, feelings and concerns. In my experience in North Africa and the Middle East 4 decades ago a traveler had to be careful because it was not the better elements of society which targetted travelers. it is a mistake to view hustlers and cheats as representative of the local people. You do not get what you pay for when you are being cheated. Many travelers who pay more are indifferent to this situation, considering it to be some sort of charity. This group of travelers makes it difficult for the group of travelers which cannot afford to take their finances for granted. Long term travelers are often in the second group. They are not in India on a ten day junket and knowing the real prices helps keep a budget. When other travelers have spent freely, those travelers following them deal with raised expectations that they too can spend freely.

I have an international plan where i can use my data for free as well as texting in 210 countries. As far as Uber i use the app, and Apple Pay if at all possible

I of course don't know if you are planning to visit india, but I still wanted to tell you this 1. Use paytm instead of apple pay as most people in India use android. 2. Use ola instead of uber , because it's cheaper and as it is indian it is available in more cities.
@adamtajyar3 жыл бұрын
@@digililygirl3315 i don’t plan on visiting india. Well not anytime in the future. I prefer to use Apple Pay because it’s the most encrypted payment method that is safe and secure (assuming of course it’s available). And compared to the U.S Uber in India is dirt cheap when u convert rupees into dollars!
