Taiwan has never relied on tourism as a major source of national income, so it’s understandable that some might find it less exciting compared to its neighbors with more developed tourism industries. However, if you appreciate safety, convenience, and delicious food, Taiwan can serve as a great stopover destination. For those who love nature and hiking, Taiwan offers a variety of options. Additionally, we host numerous events every month, providing even more experiences to enjoy.

Foreigner who has lived in Taiwan for nearly 20 years here. You did a great job covering a lot of ground in a very limited amount of time. Spots I think other foreigners would enjoy that weren't covered here: 1. Taipei Maokong Gondola to the mountaintop tea huts. It's as magical as it sounds. 2. Taiwan baseball games: one of the most incredible sporting atmospheres I've ever experienced. Personalized songs and dances for each player, which most crowd members have memorized. 3. Guanziling Hot Springs in Tainan. Highly recommend this hot spring area because not only are the hot springs great, the food is incredible. Taiwan has a "mountain food culture" which is often quite different from what you can find in the lowlands. 4. Green island. Snorkeling and a hot spring right next to the ocean, where ocean water and hot spring water mix. 5. Taiwan has some of the best tea culture in the world. I personally like 旅行喫茶店 in Taizhong as a place that curates some of the best teas from the island with a very nice atmosphere inside a historic building. The area outside of Sun Moon lake also has fantastic tea culture and some beautiful old tea plantations that are open to the public. 6. Taidong is a place I could spend several days. Many great hot springs, a beautiful sprawling beach, vibrant Aboriginal culture and a focus on organic and back to the land intentional living. Some of the best organic black wulong tea is produced here. Obviously there's tons more but these are just some picks off the top of my head. Heavily tea influenced I realized, but Taiwan is kind of famous for that even in China.

If you don't know Chinese history, don't make such a stupid comment. Taiwan is not a country. Both Taiwan and mainland China belong to China. Legally, the constitutions of Taiwan and mainland China state this. Historically, the island of Taiwan first appeared in Chinese documents in 239 AD, when ancient China sent an expedition to explore the place - a fact that Beijing now uses as the basis for its territorial claims. Taiwan then briefly experienced a period of Dutch colonial rule (1624-1661), and then Taiwan was ruled by the Qing Dynasty government from 1683 to 1894. In 1894, Japan launched the Sino-Japanese War against China, and China was defeated and ceded Taiwan and the Penghu Islands to Japan. From then on, Taiwan became Japan's first overseas colony and began a 50-year colonial rule until 1945. Later, China's second civil war broke out, and the defeated Chinese Kuomintang fled to Taiwan and became the ruling party in Taiwan. Later, due to the intervention of the United States, the two sides have been unable to complete the unification of the territory. In addition, the long-term false propaganda of the Taiwanese "government" and the alienation of relations with mainland China have led to the current tense situation. From the perspective of ethnicity and culture, Taiwan's earliest political parties also came from mainland China, and the main population also came from coastal cities in mainland China. Therefore, the main languages in Taiwan are still southern Chinese dialects and Mandarin (just with slightly different accents). They belong to the same ethnic group as mainland China, and their traditional culture and eating habits are the same. They use traditional Chinese characters (mainland China used to have a unified character type. In order to facilitate teaching, mainland China changed traditional Chinese to simplified Chinese, but everyone can understand each other). Secondly, the United Nations and almost all countries in the world do not recognize Taiwan, nor do they support Taiwan's independence (except for three or four small island countries) The above five points are enough to show that Taiwan has been a part of China's territory since ancient times, and there is no such definition as "country" as you said.

@Anonymous-iw4hxАй бұрын
what you say about the east coast being less populated is not 100% correct. the main reason is, the mountains are much closer to the ocean, leaving less space for settlements. especially between hualien and yilan, there are around 2 larger settlements, not many people. west of the mountains are huge flat areas. i also was in taiwan a few weeks ago, i arrived just before the typhoon kong-rey hit the island and i was stuck in my stay in hualien for 2 days because of it, the building was even shaking. btw the taroko gorge isnt closed completely you can enter during specific hours but the damage is heavy, i went there each time during my 6 visits before and i felt devestated by the views i got last time. the rangers told me it will take years to repair the damage
There's is also another reason why there's less people in that area

Very enjoyable for us to watch and relive our recent Taiwan circle trip. Mountains, farms, lakes, typhoons but no mention of 🌏quakes! We felt a 5.4. Shame you couldn't stop off at Shizhuo's trail network in the stunning tea plantations on your bus ride down from Alishan due to the circumstances. We found parts of Taiwan are not that easy for English speakers to get around and we relied heavily on Nick Kembel's guides on 'Taiwan Obsessed', which you may already know about, and Google Translate for menus all the time. We loved the Taiwan branded beer and how vegetarian friendly Taiwan was too, although that's not one of your concerns😋 You'll have to go back for Mount Hehuan and Shizhou one day when it's not typhoon season.
Outside of big cities, it’s more difficult to get around with English. But if you ask around, I’m sure you’ll get all the help from those who don’t understand English.😁 Welcome you to Taiwan again!

Having lived in Taiwan for most of the past 20 years, I have to say that there ARE a lot of tourists. Especially the past 5 years, it's been overwhelmed with tourists. Working holiday visas have completely changed the feel of Taipei. There are floods of Europeans now who just wander around aggressively using English in stores. It's actually had the effect of more people suddenly trying to interact with me in broken English on the assumption that I'm a tourist, even if it's literally a store or restaurant I'd started visiting in 2003. It's a bit saddening as it makes me feel more like an outsider now than I was half a lifetime ago. I just wish more tourists and especially working holiday people put at least a modicum of effort into learning the local language. You got out a bit further into nature than most visitors do, though, and that's great.

Fun fact, I actually worked at Family Mart for a summer and hear the sound every day and got used to it. It’s actually a greeting and to let the store clerks know when someone enters the door. You did hear it when you are at the back office or storage unit!

That was quite a trip you did there - kind of a huandao. I have been and still (or again, following the pandemic) am visiting Taiwan twice a year for work in Taipei and Taichung. And I always make sure to add at least an extra week to explore and meet friends. You did the right thing upon arriving at Taoyuan airport: Get an Easy Card, it makes life so much easier for tourists. By the way: I spent Tuesday to Thursday in Kaohsiung when it got hit by typhoon Krathon. Thursday was a scary experience in particular, since I had to get from my hotel at Pier2 to an MRT station and then to Zuoying HSR station.

What a fantastic vlog! I’m a Taiwanese, and I was very touched to see that your videos capture so much of Taiwan’s beauty. Thank you for letting the world see the beauty of Taiwan.

Beautiful coverage of Taiwan, if weather didn’t ruin your trip agenda it would definitely take it to another level. Awesome video… def helps pinpoint down the spots to visit within a limited time.

I went to all these amazing locations in Taiwan in my class graduation fieldtrip! Glad you liked it too!
I watched your Slovenia video before I went there, and now I'm looking at Taiwan for this fall. Maybe someday I'll run into ya in person. Thanks for the insight!
Thank you for capturing the beauty of Taiwan so wonderfully, and I’m glad you had an amazing holiday here. Taiwan is an independent country, but we don’t have many friends on the international stage. It means a lot that you’ve visited Taiwan. I hope you can share your experiences with the people around you and, one day, speak up for us on the international stage. Wishing your KZbin channel continued success and growth, and we look forward to your next visit!

Very nice video! Love your true comments about the food and the background music! I’m a Taiwanese and call myself a global citizen after living in NY, Seoul, Hong Kong and Beijing Shanghai. I have to say Taiwan is the best country to live and to travel to. Welcome all of you to my lovely, chill and vibrant country!

The alcohol at 21:44 is usually used as a cooking wine instead of for drinking which might explain the flavor lol
