Being told "you're just more replaceable than others" : About that bit on how people no longer are loyal to companies - THAT IS WHY. People realize that sometimes it's nonsensical to truly believe their company values THEM, no matter how much they value their employer. I cringed thinking how disrespected and overlooked OP must have felt to have done so well just for it to be "replaceable"
@tobiasmills96472 жыл бұрын
The sandwich story about OP and his brother Rick, really made my day. It showed that management really cared, and the company was run by actual people. I hope that guy saw how much his manager was a true diamond in the rough, especially offering him the promotion on the spot.
@drimwalkr89232 жыл бұрын
The ONLY time I tell my associates that they are replaceable is when they're getting a big head about themselves, and I have to bring them back down before they get themselves fired. You'd be surprised how frequently that happens in food service. But that is the only acceptable time to do that, especially when used as a tool to deny raises lol

I went part-time for a company when the option came up, because of the crap they pulled. No kids, I don't drive, no spouse, so I don't need much, and I am much happier. I can compartmentalize my job, and just forget about it at the end of the day. The simple truth is there are good bosses out there, I have heard of them, but my current boss does not deserve my best.

Yep, the company I work for just gave us a pittance of a raise and our reviews left much to be desired. Im staying with the company because the benefits are nice and the hours are nice but im not going above and beyond for my job. Its especially annoying because they are dangling the carrot saying that we would get better reviews if we do some voluntary coursework when I had already completed over 90 hours of courses including some at home courses. Like yeah ok buddy. As much as I rag on the job its not super stressful and pays th e bills I just am not going to work as fast as before and sometimes I doodle at my desk. Still.nuch better than when I was a restaurant manager. And I like the team I am on so I'm just chilling. Heck! I'm typing this when I am supposed to be working!

I worked as a supervisor for a manufacturing plant. A newly placed manager had it out for the three supervisors already in place. He openly stated that he would get us fired because he did not appoint us and wanted xyz to replace us. He managed to get the other two within a few weeks, I was covering my tail pretty well. They finally let me for a BS reason, I wasn't even responsible for that line. They worked over into my shift without support so they claimed it was my responsibility to not allow them to run without said support. The manager had a serious drug problem that he kept hidden really well. He would call me and talk for hours, 3rd shift, never slept over a few hours at a time. Let's just say, within 3 weeks he got pulled over. Had enough to be charged with distribution and had a felony charge from another state, bonus bust. Don't mess with someone else's house when yours is dirty.

I love hearing stories about companies not appreciating those workers who can do everything because my mom was one of them. She was the best of the best. Smart, very efficient, has extremely good time management skills partially due to OCD, and did so much for her team. However, she started getting mistreated, bullied, and overall harassed by members on the team (I'm not gonna say which races, but it was a race thing) which was overlooked for too long. So my mom decided she had enough and went back to her old department, who was ecstatic to have her back. Her higher ups realized too late that they would have to hire at least 4 four people to the jobs my mom did alone, and it was glorious. She's doing a lot better now I believe.

I understand what you are saying but disagree. I worked for one of the top 4 food production companies in the United States for 10 years. Gave 120% everyday for an awesome boss. A concept developed being raised in a military family then serving in the Air Force. My boss was the greatest person I have ever worked for and we are still friends many years later. After developing a process that saved the company millions over the years, the process was made a standard part of the ordering system and the position of managing the process was developed specifically for me. HR and the company saw it differently: they wanted someone with a degree in business, finance or IT. My degree is in History and Political Science. I was good enough to be the project manager to find and fix the problem but not run the process. I now own my own small business and I give my business and my employees 150% and expect my employees to give me back 100% effort in return. Those that do get rewards generously, those that have your attitude and don’t give 100% don’t last long. Unfortunately too many in the workplace have your ideology and even more companies have no loyalty to their employees

The radio show prank call: My dad did this to my mom in 1984 (go figure). Both of my parents were active duty Air Force in Arizona, I was a year old, and mom's current enlistment was coming up on either signing up for another 4 year tour or get out. Mom had decided to get out and be a stay at home mom. My dad knew what radio station they played all day at her Unit's office, and he called up this DJ that woudl do prank calls much like this story (I actually wonder if it was the same guy) and told him about mom deciding to not re-enlist and suggested he call Mom up at work sounding like President Reagan asking her to re-enlist because her country needed her. This DJ aparrently was very convincing because mom and her co-workers actually thought it was the President. At least in this story the DJ didn't take it too far. Once he heard her starting to believe he was the President, he quickly told her the truth and that dad had called and asked him to prank call her. I don't remember if she ever got even with him, but she certainly was pissed.

One assumption that abused employees in this forum make is that their supervisors exist only at work, and they engage in illegal abuse only at work. It can cost money to find out what else they are doing, such as infidelity and habitual crimes outside of work. Nobody is an AH only at work, and AHs become complacent, and stop bothering to conceal their misdeeds.

Well I guess some one put leftover birthday cake in it, and it disappeared. Some one said they saw me in the fridge and I since I was the fat girl in the dorm, I must be the food thief. I said I was just putting my icecream in that I had bought at the grocery. I showed the recipt and my icecream with my name on it. My previous job was constantly trying to promote me to a management position, and for years I refused. Everyone who worked there wondered why I kept refusing, and almost all of them would figure out why. Many of them would become manager, and realize that it meant you were the first one in around 6am and the last one out at around 8pm. You were paid maybe a dollar more an hour than you were before, still had the same duties but more stacked on top, and everyone that made a mistake beneath you would be your fault. So first the boss would yell at you, then the boss would yell at the employee who made the mistake, then the boss would tell you to yell at everyone else about the mistake just to make sure it sank in. A lot of managers lasted maybe 3 or 4 months before quitting.

Concerning the "Hot Sandwich" story, it may seem funny, but it's actually a bad idea. Too much Capsaicin has been known to cause heart attacks. Also, your idea of adding laxatives is even worse. Those are a medication, giving someone medication without their knowledge and consent can be considered bodily harm. Especially considering you can't really dose it properly that way. This can cause severe medical complications.

Regarding criminal penalties, in the U.S., financial crimes have always received more attention and yielded larger sentences than violent crimes. They'll always find the criminals of high-value burglaries. Report a homicide, and after the immediate families are investigated, it will just go in a folder to be forgotten about. There has to be at least 5 murders before any serious time is allocated to an investigation. A rapist without priors will most likely get less than 2 years, if any, unless they're black.
