A brilliant piece... full of invention and orchestral effects. Influences of John Adams, but processed more musically: there is a strong (traditional) tonal dynamic under the surface.

I wonder whether this work intends to reflect the symbolic content of Baudelaire's poem, a nostalgic meditation on a lost paradise (with references to colonial bliss). Is the music harking back to pre-modernist music when traditional tonal dynamics combined with freedom and experimentation? If so, Beffa is giving hope to the future of new music.
