Hi Sam. Thanks for drawing attention to this game. I just want to add that according to Edgar Mednis (in the second edition of his How Karpov wins), Karpov thought for 60 minutes before playing 13…e5, which goes to show that these seemingly effortless Karpov wins were not created without any effort from his side… As for 15.Qb1: you say that 15.Qd1 was equally possible; I guess Tatai played 15.Qb1 in order to defend the pawn on a2, and also because he didn’t like 15.Qd1 Le6 16.0-0 Lb3.

Thanks Sam, very instructive. I do tend to like Qa4, but I've often been trapped by it. Nice to see another example of that here.
