Here we are at one of our most favourite spots, camped up along the beautiful Darling River! Come with us as Karstan does some true hunting and gathering, see him make his own spear, cross the river on a body board and catch up a storm!!!
We cook up an awesome feast thank to a video chat with the legendary Harry from ‪@firetofork‬ and see some incredible bird life and scenery along the Darling River.
So sit down, grab a bev and join us for a 30 min CATCH & COOK adventure!
Thanks for watching and supporting our channel.. we appreciate you all!!!
Cheers,
Karstan, Max and Zu

There are heaps of channels now doing basically the same thing but I love to watch your episodes from beginning to end every time. Is it the kombi, is it the lovely hosts or is it the absolutely carefree adventurous spirit you guys provide in spades? Did Zuri try the yabbies? (Is that a silly question - babies don't eat yabbies!?)

Thanks for taking the time to write this comment. That’s so awesome to hear Ben, and means a lot! We just show it how it is and really enjoy taking people on a journey and showing them different parts of Aus! Zu did try some yabbies - she pretty much eats everything (actually has very expensive taste 😆)!!!

It's because they can still release viable eggs even when dead for months. Leaving them on the bank to rot is unpleasant for the next people that come along. There is a few options to deal with them, take them home and put them in your compost, put them in a rubbish bin or bury them.

Hi Karstan. Love following your adventures . The carp they eat in Asia is mostly farmed in clean water tanks and feed pellets .The wild carp in Australia are bottom feeders and hence taste muddy is why we dont eat them .But there is a simple a recipe I use . When you catch them ( only the big ones ) knock it on the head then fillet is straight away .then onto ice. Then an hour before cooking put the fillets into a salt water bath for about 30 minutes .take out then it is ready to cook .Enjoy as it is a very nice soft fish meat when done correctly . Cheers Howard

awww Guys- that was the best yet- "Lovineverybitofit--" (new bumper sticker material.) Wishing my comp had "smell-o-vision". Bet the Yabbies smelled great. Now your going to have to decide how much of the Kombi is the show. That new rig is going to be so comphy and flawless (hopefully) that the "is he going to make it????" part of the show will be in question. I spent 3 weeks in Katherine waiting on a motor for my kombi (way back in the day) and it was one of the best times of the trip. If you watch "Kombi life" with Ben - his channel blew up during 11 engine rebuilds on his way up south america. (turns out to be an altered carbi that was put back on each engine. But I digress.

Many many years ago i was sat on the beach of an island called Pangkor in Malaysia,it was 4.30 in the morning and it was like 30 degree's already, there was no way on Earth i could sleep so i went for a walk and found myself there, at around 5ish the sun was starting to light up the horizon, there was a lightning storm far far out at sea, the hornbills were waking up and filling the sky, there was hundreds of them, the waves were flashing electric blue with bioluminescence and i can honestly say it was the single most beautiful thing i've ever experienced,my mates were all tucked up and it was my moment, my moment alone, now,i'm no Assie, but i know when i would've loved to boil the billy can,the billy was the only thing missing, but hey, sometimes you just can't have it all,i'd already had a lot that day 🙂

They are good eating , it's the redy brown line that needs cutting out off the fillet that gives them their muddy taste ,the bones arnt a problem put fillets with bones still attached through a mincer twice add herbs and spices and you will make the best fish patties ever , unfortunately Australians are slow to catch on and just kill every thing that they think is bad but them pests can really be good and feed ya plenty off them out there

That is a s#*& load of carp, amazing what a flood can do. I would never eat carp yuck, i would do what you did, put on land, though i dig a hole first. Good for fertiliser. Im like eeww to yabbies, but now im tempted to give the garlic recipe a go. Zuri you are much braver than me, have yabbie race with mum n dad next time, Zuri a spray bottle of water on them will help you win ❤ ❤❤❤

Only tried Yabbies once so far as I haven't caught many. Mine were just boiled but still very nice. As for the Carp I have eaten that too. Catch it, throw it on ice, fillet and skin a few hours later or the next day and cook it like any other fish and it is very nice. Lots of small bones that can be a pain but otherwise a good eating fish. They are the worlds most eaten freshwater fish for a reason other than being prolific. In NSW, ACT & W.A you can legally return them to the water as well if you so wish and the Murray/Darling system is all apparently operated by NSW DPI therefore even on the Victorian banks you can still return. Research internationally has shown you are better off killing the smaller ones than the big ones as the big ones help control the numbers of smaller ones and are not as fertile. Honestly though, Give it a try one day. Do as I mentioned and cook one up. Make sure it goes on ice though.
