Karthala is part of the same hotspot caused volcanic chain that also caused recent volcanism offshore and (further back on) the island of Mayotte.

Are there any eruptions historically where the fluorine in the water supply caused big issues anywhere? That’s a pretty fascinating deleterious effect that I’m sure could have caused widespread problems in populations in the past!
@GeologyHub2 жыл бұрын
@@lacyoh8066 yes. Laki in 1783-1784. Killed 1/2 the farm animals and 10,000 people in Iceland. Potentially killed 25,000 more in UK & Ireland.

I hope the people that live in those areas can make it to safety if it gets really bad!!

Always loved volcanos, and any sort of natural forces of ......well nature. Found your channel a few days ago, enjoying the content. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there in the wild world.

I love your content! By coincidence I was discussing volcanic eruptions with 2 friends who were arguing that an eruption must have lava. Because of you I knew about phreatic eruptions and was able to explain it. Keep up the great work 👍

isent the ratio of water to steam 1 to 1000, so lets see 1x1x1 meter of water would be 1000 times larger with steam, or do i remember wrong?
@michaeldeierhoi40962 жыл бұрын
It is easier to say that a given volume of water will expand 1700 times when heated above the boiling temperature of water 100 C. 1 to 1700. I have also heard that water expands to 4200 times if raised to 536 C. 1 to 4200.

If every time the volcano erupts it produces a lot of fluoride does that mean they have a lot of natural fluoride in their water and don't have to fluoridate it?
@mizzshortie9072 жыл бұрын
Good question
@erukaseven2 жыл бұрын
Fluorine, not Fluoride. They are not the same thing even though one comes from the other. Which is why you shouldn't drink water contaminated with Fluorine.
@brianlanders53062 жыл бұрын
@@erukaseven : Yeah, because fluorine is poison when it gets past a certain ppm(parts per million).

fluorine is very toxic but yeah, make sure you get some after every meal in your toothpaste.

The compound used in toothpaste is Sodium Fluoride,not Fluorine.

@@tr4l1975 Good to know there is no fluorine in sodium fluoride. So, what elements compose the chemical salt fluoride if not fluorine? And does that mean that the fluorine in psych drugs isn't really there either and that people don't have side effects like say "Keppra Rage", and what about the 100% connection between psych drugs and school shootings?
