Australia has pledged support already, unsurprisingly. We consider Vanuatu a close neighbour, and is a popular holiday destination for us as a Nation. (I've visited Yasur and looked down into the caldera, awesome stuff) One large aftershock, 5.5 mag has already occurred.

I love the constructive public service announcements including why it is dangerous. I just learned today that a nephew of a classmate passed away recently, cause he left the car running inside a building while he was working on it (it is winter here, and counter to popular narrative, rather cold). Carbon monoxide is a peaceful way to go, but way too early for this young man and his family. Seriously, listen and abide by constructive PSAs, your life depends on it. And regarding a recent video here: Vanuatu was actually on my shortlist for my volcano lair, but I decided that it was too active. Now I am praying for the people who did not have the luxury of avoiding that danger.

At least 14 people have died. Rescuers worked through the night trying to reach some people yelling under the rubble. The Red Cross reported the latest toll early on Wednesday, citing government sources. An official at Port Vila's hospital told Vanuatu's national broadcaster VBTC that more than 50 were injured. Australia is sending urgent assistance to Vanuatu where the death toll is expected to rise as search and rescue teams work to reach people trapped under collapsed buildings. "Australia and Vanuatu share a deep and enduring partnership. We are family and we will always be there in times of need."
