Dormer Details - Part 1

In this video, Mark shows you how to navigate around a dormer by creating the proper apron flashing out of coil stock and how to trim the sidewall flashing for a secure fit. Mark also shows you how the valleys intersect at the top of the dormer and how the shingles are applied around the dormer and into the valley pan.

Put ur sealent in ur corners before u fasten the 90° wall flashing. Its just after ur last dry fit that u want to fasten it and be done with it , but hiding that sealent from any weather and uv, is going to be the best measure u can take . One extra step will set u above the rest

Good info thank you! Can you tell me the best way to flash a dormer, pirmarily the apron, when the window sill literally sits right on the deck? There's approx 2" that I could turn up the leg of the apron. Is it just what it is? Any tricks I should know? Thank you

Hi Jeff, the response below is from Mark.... Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I’m glad you found the videos helpful. I’m a little unsure of your exact situation. If there is 2” of wall below the window sill and the sill comes out past the wall plane, I would just turn up my apron that 2”, fasten and try to seal at the top of the flashing and over the fastener heads. If the window sill rests upon the roof deck, I might see if I could bend up the face of the sill and then back as far as I could go, preferably under the window. You would be, in essence, wrapping the whole sill. Seal well along the edges of the flashing. I hope this is some help. Thanks for question about a not-too uncommon situation. Mark
