These modified sine wave inverters are basically the same thing as a UPS for a computer. They say it's not good to run a computer on them so, why do they make them as a battery backup inverter for a computer?

Why did you call this stealing from China? China does not own this technology. Arguably, Edison invented the first inverter. Japan, Germany, and many more have actually developed new inverter types, not China. So, if you are "stealing" it is from those countries.
