I trained with Jonathan many years ago. Our style (Ishinryu) was a mixture of Kyokushinkai, Shotokan and Wado-Ryu. For those who say its rushed and its weak probably don't understand the different variations of the same kata in each style. Plus i know them hits hurt from first hand experience! :-D One of England's finest!!

The 4th and 5th precepts of Funakoshi sums up my thoughts about the comments here: 4. First know yourself before attempting to know others. 5. Spirit first, technique second.

I find his technique sharp. Everyone is taught different tempos for their kata. We do have to acknowledge how sharp he is. He is very fast. He may hold at some points for too long, though he does a very nice kata.

It is not the traditional and classical performance of the Shotokan kata like it was performed by Nakayama, Kanazawa and Kagawa.

Get that backstance LOWER brother xD jokes aside this kata has always been my favorite, won me first places trophies taller than me at the time without fail. Super nice technique, and i love the timing you have, people love to rush trad. forms for some reason and it just looks sloppy smh

good effort, although it is a bit too, rush rush rush, pauuuuuuuuse, extended pauuuuuuuse, rush rush rush, and he has changed the keages to kekomis for some reason, still looks better than mine, but not that much considering I'm a 2nd Dan :)

Is this a Wado version of the kata? It looks different to typical shotokan. Or is this his own take on Kanku-sho? Thanks for sharing.

The difference between competition Kata and Normal Kata NONE, but, by all means everyone ever, take a 10min pause between moves. Why not ?

A great amount of snap, and pretty sharp but in my humble opinion very rushed. It may be a difference of style from Shotokan that i practice but the timing is way different and the stance less grounded and solid than what I am used to. It's different, not really for me to judge

I felt for me the pauses were to long and subsequently messed with the flow of the kata but I guess that is where the competition effect is changing the nature of the kata this is of course only my humble opinion but I am now 65 and have been training for over 30 years

Какое -то изменённое ката! Далекое от оригинала! Что-то пропущено, что-то упущено, какие-то движения потеряли смысл бункая! Меня, как сторонника JKA, такое исполнение просто раздражает, как полное ошибок!
