This game... I have so much to say, but I'll keep it short. I was a massive fan of it when it came out. I was a teenager then. In 2020 I suffered a widow maker heart attack, my gf cheated on me in recovery. That's when I discovered I have bipolar/borderline on top of everything. I lost... myself. I lost everything. With the heart stuff I remembered our protagonist. This media has helped me a lot through my recovery. It made me realize, just because I'm in heart failure and there's setbacks and limitations I can still find love in the most unlikely of places. I'm still searching. But this game I owe a great deal towards. Thank you four leaf.

Back in 2012, I remember playing Katawa Shoujo as a teenager, the year it came out. KS influenced me in a lot of ways. Being a game made by 4chan, I was surprised at how genuine and gentle of an experience it turned out to be. The soundtrack was amazing- I still listen to it sometimes. Later in life, depression developed, and I went through a lot of losses. Ended friendships, bad experiences in school, family not understanding why I isolated myself. Shizune's route helped me to realize more what was happening, especially after seeing what Misha went through. I'll always remember and cherish this visual novel. It's such a beautiful game, and to see so many people here be influenced similarly by Katawa Shoujo is a wonderful thing. Hope things have gotten better for you, nowadays.

I've embraced a new more appreciative look on life after playing this. The realization that everything can turn sour so quickly with even the most insignificant variation in conversation has lead me to believe that it's better to live life with little bitterness, with fewer regrets. I can't know if my choices are the right one, but they are the ones I've made thus far. Given the fact that I'm neither isolated nor dead, I suppose that's something to be thankful for. btw, natural responses gave me the Emi good ending first, watching the bad ending here woke me up to how empty I've been living. Currently on my 3rd play through and I'm finding it liberating and defining to experience all these outcomes.

Hey, I played Emi and Hanako first by accident trying to get Lilly and once I finally did get Lilly I still to this day haven't played any other routes. It's been about 5 months since I finished Lilly's route, too. In the process I developed a huge respect for blind people in the process. I even lived a day without sight to put myself in their perspective and it was incredibly surreal. Not the same per say, but it was certainly a good experience for the mind.

Well Rim and Suzune were not my favorite routes (they are still VERY good), so you should just play them for interest. They are not that attaching as Hanako, Emi or Lilly. But thats personal taste, especially Rin and Suzune are kind of the extremes. You should try the other routes, especially Rins route. I want a button to forget the game and start all over again. This jazz-ost is bringing so much feels back regarding lilly and especially hanako. Hanaok and Lilly are the best written routes IMO. Never had so much feels in ANY VN.

i first watched a playthrough of this game back in 2014. im now 20 and i played it for the first time a few weeks ago, it honestly put my life back on track. made me realize i was obsessing over my ex and i became an unmotivated and complacent mess. the play-through i watched did Lilly's route so she was always my favorite but Emi's and Hanako's story were the ones that gave me motivation again, and helped me stop obsessing over my ex.

I share a similar opinion as you, I've only been playing for a week or two now. I think lillys was the best of the 3, but the other two shouldn't be undermined due to that. I am ten years late to this party, but ks is the first vn that I can finished any route of. I actually tried to go for Lilly off the bat, but accidentallied myself into Emi's route first. Finished Lilly this week, but now I'm not sure if I have the heart to 100% it. Especially not the bad endings. I don't want to see any of them suffer. Playing through Lilly's route after Emi's has had me extremely conflicted since I felt bad regarding what Emi would be going through at the same time. And then I felt bad for what Lilly must have gone through during Emi's route. Even between just the two, I can't decide which I would prefer to be real. In one, Hisao arguably ends up physically healthier and more active, whereas he seems to have a better outlook and more stable partner in the other. (though I'd say that his choice of further education was worse in that route)

First off, I want to congratulate you for having one of the best comments I've ever read. So filled with emotion and meaning that it almost brought tears to my eyes. Secondly, I believe that Hanako has a handle on herself and is just as stable as Lilly, or at least is going to be very soon, but just needed someone to be there for her and to truly love her. She needed to be able to personally connect with somebody to really get her life on track, and Hisao is helping her to do that. They both benefit from each other's company and each improve the other person. Also, I think Hanako might actually be smarter than Lilly in some aspects. Her favorite hobby is chess, which as you know, is a game all about strategy and out-thinking your opponent. As we've seen, she's quite good at it, too. I believe this really has something to say about Hanako's intelligence. P.S. Good arguments, and I see your point of view, but regardless... Hanako best girl /rant

No you aren't. I remember the pool as good as the date though. It was the first time where Hanako really didnt reacted that nice after Hiaso says, he wants protect her. If you catched that, bad ending was avoidable. Luckily I catched and prevent the bad ending to happen. :D I would have never been able to stand this bad ending in my first real playthrough.

well, on my first ever playthrough i played as if i were at the mc's spot, and in the end i got good ending with Lily. That date at restaurant and that bg music that fits so well into atmosphere is the one of the major moments i have remembered not only at her routes, but in the whole game overall. I just love how calm it were. After i got good endings with everyone else, Lily is the second for me, and Rin is first, but if i had to choose between all of these girls, i would definetly pick Lily since she's so reliable, kind and careful person, i just can't disrespect her, probably the type of girlfriend i would want the most, though somehow Rin is still superior XD idk how that works. welp, i had playing fun this game, but i don't know if i will ever replay it. I think it's better not to get attached to any unreal woman, 'cause it's weird. I just now look on disabled people as a normal people too, even more i got to feel that when i read manga Real from Takehiko Inoue. That's the point i got from this game. Not completely sure mate, some people don't like the writing of her route, some people don't like her personality. Myself I quite enjoyed Shizunes route but more for the friendship and companionship aspect rather than the romantic one.

+Emilio Mateos Shizune's route kind of misses the point of a romance story. Not a lot of people consider "I chased after her, our relationship developed into me giving and her taking, I fucked her bff for reasons I dont entirely understand myself and we broke up/we kind of just went our separate ways at the end of highschool and never spoke again" to be what they're looking for in an imaginary relationship. For that matter I dont think people go looking for it in real life either.

Depending on the person, it could include the endings, as people above me have said. Both were similar and didn't really give a satisfying ending to the story. It could also include that they just don't like the character (she was rude), the writing made her route seem long and boring with very little going on, lack of choice with only one choice and that was a clear good route/bad route choice. I didn't like it because it was a very flat story, not much going on, and it felt like there was very little meaning. I enjoyed it more than Emi's route though.
