One think I've been picking up lately is the so-called "boundary gemenation" often after an "e", which creates a glottal stop. In this case, I noticed it for the first time in "puhekieli", which, with the boundary gemination, sounds like "puhekkieli". eikö niin?

I'm Finnish, but it was fun to hear how you explained these expressions. Since the grammatical structure is different from English with the feeling verbs such as "väsyttää". There is also the possessive expression "X:llä on Y", where Y can express a feeling such as "kuuma" or "paha olo" or "kivaa". Technical note: The -NUT forms such as "väsynyt" (tired) do not derive from the transitive verbs such as "väsyttää" (tire something out) but instead from their intransitive counterparts such as "väsyä" (become tired). This is why the -NUT form can look a bit different sometimes.

Because of the partitive, I've always made a point of remembering the transitive verbs for feelings as "It (verb) me ... " or "it makes me ..." For example, "mua pelottaa olla yksin" would be closer to "it scares me to be alone" as opposed to "pelkään olla yksin" which would be "I fear being alone" Or "mua janottaa kävellä kuumassa auringossa" which would be close to "it makes me thirsty to walk in the hot sun" as opposed to "mulla on jano, kun kävelen kuumassa auringossa" or "I get thirsty when I walk in the hot sun". I studied these in Suomen Mestari 3 :P Really cool language, I can't wait to move to Finland next month and start my degree!

It's been a while since I've spoken Finnish, but I love hearing it spoken by a Finn, so thank you. Correct me if I am wrong, but the main difference appears to be "past-tense" vs "present verb" (I'm not a grammer pro and thus making this up). for example: Olen ahdistunut means you are anxious but just generally anxious; whereas Minua ahdistaa means that someone/something is making you anxious (and it could be something currently). You can't use the partitive case unless there is a verb, which means a noun is "verbing" you (tuo pieni huone ahdistaa minua). Anyway, I could be totally wrong, PLUS it obviously doesn't make much difference in practicality.

I heard two definitions for ilonnen and onnellinen and i dunno if i'm wrong or if this is a completely valid explanation. So, ilonen means happy in a "childish" way. Like children are always open about their feelings and can express their happiness with jumping, screaming, etc. And onnellinen is more like "quiet" happiness, deep down in the heart or something? :D

I suppose you could make that distinction. One could probably argue that iloinen is a more surface level happiness and onnellinen is a bit deeper. In day to day I don't think people think about it that deeply though so either can be used, but maybe that's why iloinen is more common to hear in every day speech :D

Are there cases where the two ways of saying "to feel" make the scentence mean different things? Like in English where "I am feeling bad" and "I am bad" end up beeing totally different statements? btw, funfact: some more conservative geramanic languges like german and dutch feature a third form with "I have". Like Ger. "Ich habe Angst" ("I have fear" instead of "I am scared") or Ger. "Ich habe dich lieb"/ Nl. "Ik heb je lief" ("I have you love" for "I love you", but not in a romantic, but in a friends and family way)

Finnish has similar "have" expressions about feelings as your German example, but they do not use a "have" verb but instead the possessive construct "X:llä on Y" (literally "at X is Y"). Such as "minulla on paha olo" - "I feel bad", literally "at me is a bad (state of) being".

I live in a place where it rains a lot. I love the rain! The best place to experience rain like that is in a finished and furnished attic--just so you can be that much closer to the rain! It's cozy! I actually was paying attention to Kat as she spoke--so much so, that I didn't notice when the rain stopped--but at some point in the video, I noticed that the rain had stopped because of the roaring silence--and I was disappointed. As I said, it rains a lot here where I live. Everyone here complains about the rain--but not me. If we go too long with a dry spell, I start getting antsy. We once had a three-year drought here--I thought I was gonna go crazy! I know Kat majored in psychology. Maybe she should start her own psychology channel--so she can explain this to me!

Yeah it can mean either nervous/stress about something or excited! I think usually if you say "mua jännittää__" it's often about being nervous/Stressed. If you say something is "jännittävä" = exciting. But a lot is just about the context xD

I notice that the ending "-inen" is used in many Finnish surnames or family names. Does that mean they are adjectives and generally mean something? Or are they absatract? On another amusing note, since you mentioned the 'v'-word. My housemates have a child who is now 7 and we agreed before he was born that I would swear in Swedish around the house to avoid the English words that normally fall so freely from my mouth lol (we're in London so we all speak english mostly). Then of course he got a Swedish friend at school, well you can imagine he came out with something really bad at a play date lol. So now I'm swearing in Finnish! I realise you're unlikely to be making a video on that subject.

"nen" word types can be both adjectives and nouns (iloinen, pilvinen, vihainen vs. nainen, hevonen, perhonen) Same can be said for "as/is" words (kaunis, raskas, hidäs vs. asukas, ruis, varas) Same for "si" (uusi vs. käsi). I could be wrong, but I think that the "i->i" words are only nouns (tori, hotelli). The "i->e" words, however, can be both (kieli -> kielen; pieni -> pienessä). Not sure about the rest of the word types. As for the names, they mean "of .... / from ..." For example, Emppu Vuorinen from Nightwish means "Emppu from/of the mountain". Or Jukka Nevalainen, again from Nightwish - "Jukka from/of the wetlands". Fun fact, the LOTR names are the same because Tolkien was fascinated with the Finnish language.

The -NEN suffix has a generally descriptive or adjective-type meaning, but adjectives and nouns can be quite interchangeable in Finnish, and thus also many nouns with -NEN exist. In actual adjectives in standard Finnish, the formally correct construct is -INEN, but the -I is often dropped in spoken language. Nouns, including surnames, typically have -NEN without the -I. Additionally, there are a few other -NEN constructs in use. There is -LAINEN, which denotes the origin or kind of something. Another one is -LLINEN, which denotes "having" something or some quality. These typically form adjectives, but again, adjectives and nouns are often interchangeable in Finnish, and thus nouns can have these too.
